Thanks for watching this wasn't meant to be a exact STT BVR engagement video more just a basic overview of the most useful info out of the radar and SA pages and how to lock targets. I plan to go more in depth with a BVR tutorial soon this week. Thanks!

A few things to mention: The box on the target (in the hud) - there is a caret on the box, if its on the top, it's between max and no escape, if it's left of the box, that's no escape, and below the box, it's min range. The HSD is in multiples of three, each ring is 1/3 of the range. When it's set at 60, for example, each ring is 20nm, so you can take a quick glance and get in the ballpark of the range. Also, the HSD and radar screen have an interesting coincidence - namely, when the HSD is at 60 nm - and the radar is at 80nm, then the three tick marks on the right of the radar match the three rings of the HSD. The radar screen has tick marks on the right for each 25% of the radar range. So, if you see a target at 40nm, you can set your hsd to 60, radar to 80, and you'll see him on the second ring, and in the middle of the radar screen (the second tick mark). Same when the HSD is at 30 and radar is at 40. That can help you to slew your radar to the proper altitude, and pre-position your TDC. You didn't set your IFF TRS (transmit) so you want to push R1 (the arrow on the right side at the very top) to switch to TRS mode - it doesn't matter on most servers because they do 'magic_iff' and most aircraft do IFF poorly anyway. I recommend using modes 1,2,3 only, because only a few aircraft have a mode 4/6. Also, because you can IFF ground units with modes 1,2, and 3.

Thank you for the additional info I will make sure to go more in depth in future videos to make it an easier process for everyone. :)

Your two JEFF video's are great! Subbed to you channel by the way, looked through your content and we have similar taste in gaming. The JF-17 is an awesome little fighter and you should produce more video's. IMHO it's a jack of all trades but master of none.

I appreciate your JF-17 videos. I also appreciate that you explain what things mean as you perform actions. I've downloaded DCS but haven't been able to devote time to it yet (I have a 2-year-old) so for now I'm just trying to understand what terms mean, how to interpret radar data.. the whole thing is very opaque. So please drop some additional JF-17 videos and don't shy away from explaining even the most basic of concepts to those of us who are intimidated by the barrier of ignorance. Great work.

hey, nice video again :) keep up the good work. a little feedback: 7:50 the red line is not only for you but other JF on the same datalink will see what you lock and it help you coordinate the attack :) 9:20 as you're about to say, their is no indication of the missile position, but as we can see in the HUD you have the time until the missile goes pitbul it's the "TOA 00:15" section you can use that to know when to break your lock and go defensive :) that apart you did a good tutorial for the newcomer in the Jeff :)

Active pause for tutorials may be a better option, shift windows pause to allow active systems on your jet without moving and it also freezes the rest of the sim
