Nellie Kim is actually only half Korean, and when she was a gymnast, she competed for the Soviet Union. The Chinese girls got big scores because: 1. They still have high A score to back them up. 2. They barely got any deductions because they have really good form, while Shawn often get deduction due to her form and artistry.
I totally agree with enpha87. It seems that Yuanyuan enjoy gymnastics esp in FX VERY much. Her smiles are cute and her routine is totally amazing and interesting. However, the new scoring system has diminished her hard work in preparing these interesting routines. In my opinion, the judges should put more emphasis on the artistic and rymthmic value in FX. It's not juz a competition of ability and difficulties, but also artictic impressions and performance to all the audiences. Love Yuanyuan!
Jiang Yuyuan is older than Shawn John! Her 17th birthday was on November 1, 2008! It's not their fault if Chinese look young and slim. They have not been raised by fries, big Macs, hamburgs and soft drinks. To Asians, American gymnasts except for Johnson all look like 30s or 40s. Just look at their male gymnast Xiaopeng Li, Li has not aged a bit since 2000 Olympic, he still looks like a little kid.

ahhh! stop! the real choreography is killing me!' the chinese were about the only gymnasts at the 2008 games that had (interesting) choreography in their routines. They're really refreshing to watch. i'm glad they won. P.S. Im american

Since gymnastics has all these rules now I really can't tell the difference from one routine to another besides the music being played and little differences in the coeo. Look at Produnova in 1997 at the Worlds on the FX and see how amazing that is compared to all of these routines.
Plus, only two from each team can go to AA, USA doing well in AA is perfectly normal. However, USA lost the team gold because other than Nastia and Shawn, other team members just brought in Ok scores. Alicia's two falls virtually killed their chance. China only made one big mistakes, and they have at least one member strong on each apparatus. USA only had slight lead on vault and beam, but China pwned on bars by over 1 point. I never heard of Nellie being biased on any country except for Russia
u noe, that female commentator once said that the floor music must match the gymnast's personality, and because of this, she critisize anna pavlova's foor routine, that her floor music didn't match her personality, that this would be a disadvantage. However, does the music really have to match the gymnast's personality?
forced kips are when a gymnast loses momentum and has to "force" or "muscle" the kip. for example at 0:10 after her transition back to high bar /watch?v=53DkNpvEfQQ (sorry i can't post links)
true but i would still rather watch jiang because she has a presence, nastia doesnt really emanate happiness, she just happens to be extremely flexible, im not dissing nastia, i think shes a great athlete but i believe a routine needs artistry not just points points points.
the only thing bad to say about it is, watch her hands when she tumbles... the backhandsprings... her hands are faced inwards... which is really bad form... otherwise it was flawless really good
@mikisayshi they're supposed to be like that! lets see you try a backbend and see if your hands are facing in because if they're not youre not doing it right
The gymnast should be able to express herself well with the music. So yeah, a gymnast's personality matters when choreography comes into play-it's easy to tell when a gymnast's personality shines through when performing. I think Anna Pavlova's routine is a perfect example of this though so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about =)
i love how the chinese still have artistry, very few teams have any left. its all tumbling and no dancing really. textbook dancing, no heart. look at the soviets a while back they were wonderful to watch even though there skills may have been milder but still impressive. i think both qualities should be counted the same. point wise. they way it used to. stupid new system!
well, it's not really a tribe. It's an ethnic group. If it's any influence, then it's Eurasian and almost Middle Eastern since Xinjiang is very West and its people are Chinese muslims.
I don't care the age effect. Champion should be no age difference, regardless who is 9 yr. or 19 yr or 91 yr old. Gymnastics is a field being controlled by the western countries, but lately their started feeling the treat from the east. What they did was to insidiously set the age limitation, and then try to block the competition from the east. Shame on the people made this regulation. Such rule should be removed immediately.
The Head of Intl' Gymnastics Federal Grandi is a true racist. He even said that Chinese girls are like robots. It's unthinkable that a head of such organization voiced such bias towards a member nation's team! Compare Chinese gymnastics with Memmel, Sacramoni and other americans, who move and look more like robots? Grandi displayed pure cultural and racial bias! He has a cold war head, needs to be replaced to make FIG fairer to all teams.
