A 1/4 oz jig on a tiny fluke would be absolutely deadly like this. Dye the tip of the tail chartreuse to help mimic a shad and increase visibility. Jigging for catfish is such an under-utilized technique that's so rewarding. Great video!
I greatly enjoy being with you while you experimentally discover another way to use the livescope to find and outwit fish. It adds the mystery of stalking the prey in its own element without the prey knowing it's been spotted. Kind of like watching a sniper using a different type of scope. Thanks for being creative with the livescope! Clearly you know how to transmit your enthusiasm to your audience. You are a great story-teller/creator!/producer. I look forward to witnessing your stories of exploring the unknown as they unfold. I appreciate your creating suc entertaining content! Fun, fun, fun!
I recently installed livescope myself. It is definitely a learning curve to master it. So far I am loving it and it appears you are learning some new tricks. I have used it to measure depth of downrigger ball and it worked very well.
Justin, you are always the brightest part of my day!!! You have taught me so much. Thank you so much. I've been catfishing since 1960. You teach me new things all the time. Your commentary is the best on RU-vid, TV, or any other place. Keep up the great work and may God bless you and keep you safe and healthy!!!!
The main thing is you make sure that momma J is taken care of. I so much enjoy watching you deal with your new little dog. she is a nut and such a delight! She's a little tire biter. Take good care of yourself! We all are so blessed to have you in our lives!!! I'm looking forward to your next video!!! Take care of yourself Justin!!! We need you here! God bless.
I'm behind on videos just got an Eagle metal garage put up. Now able to pick my bluesky boatworks pro 360 up in the air to work under it easily. Since its really like a mini one man pontoon can run a lot of the wires under the decks. Completely reworking it new motorguide w/spot lock already came with ECHOMAP UHD73, Remounting it . Got a ECHOMAP UHD93SV & livescope Christmas go to be busy but watching you ever chance I get. You started this when I found you online. You just don't know how much it has helped me. Finding away to get back out and enjoying life since my injury. Thanks for all you do. Douglas
@@KayakCatfish want to try hitting the crappie and white bass. Since I got the kayak there is I Creek that runs in to a lake down here that you can't get to it by boat where there was and old gris mill with a waterfall unless you want to take a mile 1/2 hike to get to it. I got to get busy for sure redoing trailer also so it not so redneck engineered .
The very first person to fish for INDIVIDUAL FISH by pin pointing specific INDIVIDUAL FISH with LIVESCOPE even if the technology isn’t quit there, you still did it anyway! YOU SIR KAYAK CATFISH ARE #1! Love your content man keep up the great work sir! Being the CarpCat Whisperer here in Indiana it’s also nice seeing you fish for Carp! Can’t wait to see you hook a 20-30LBS Carp!
I used to use a 4’6 ultralight with crappie spinners and kahle hooks for 1-5 pound eating-size blues at an old spot. I’ve used crappie jigs and hair jigs too, they’ll eat just about anything. I love you exploration of different types of baits with the stinger flies and jigs
I’ve been waiting for this video since the instagram teaser. Gotta be fun jiggin up cats. I get a lot of them on lures. Got a nice 21lb blue on a swimbait last year.
Hey Justin, commenting on the issue with livescope and identifying catfish. Generally when we would hunt for catfish the way we did using down imaging and side imaging. Catfish, especially big cats skull will give a hard return(like rock) on DI. So if your DI is set correct for it, you should be able to see the hard return of the skull in the mark. So in theory find em with the livescope, identify with down imaging, spot lock on it with both looking at the fish. Now i dont have livescope and never used it, but thats how we read the marks on down imaging. Maybe it can work, that would be my approach. As you say opinions are like ☆. Hope it will help, seen every video you have made and enjoy watching them all
The thing I did that helped me the most was removing the sonar from the trolling moter and placing it on a swivle pole I could operate with my hand. That way I could move the unit and keep the fish on the screen while the trolling moter does its thing. There are pre-made poles you can buy or vedios on you tube on how to make one. I made the pole removable so I can strap it down for transportation and pull it when loading the boat so it does not hit anything. Hope this helps
Fished this past week in Watts Bar. Seems like everything is in between 30 and 40 foot, bass, stripers, crappie and cats. We caught 3 catfish in 35 ft with a minnow, split shot, and 4lb test. Makes for a long fight. Saw bait balls of threadfins at 30 ft.
Another way to fish for both I found out not long ago is using minnows hopping along the bottom. You would think it would just be small catfish but I was catching up to 20 lb catfish no little ones at all.
I make mine out of the white part of a deer tail or the deer belly hair and they do awesome. Think is with white you about have to keep them in something sealed or they get barely discolored
Actually, now that I think about it, I would just go with straight 12 to 14 lb braid. It's the same diameter as what you have now in the 6 lb mono. Give you a lot of extra tensile strength and you'd lose a lot less fish. Go with beyond braid. I've been super happy since I switched to it! And I've been doing this kind of fishing. It works well for it, even in Clearwater like we have a Northwest Arkansas here
I'll take the blame for the bait bucket being dry because ive done that thanks for the video they always seem to be right on time when I need to watch a good fishing video you drop one thanks for taking us along
If you can have a guy make you some jigs that would be the way to go. Otherwise for slightly bigger hair jigs with strong hooks, that are designed for bass fishing, might do the trick. Lot of them have a larger hook in them. Like you, I was hooking large fish on small jigs, got tired of bent hooks even on wimpy rod and line, I make my own jigs in 3/8-1oz with 2x and 3x hooks. Small sizes like 2/0, I also started this year making smaller yet sizes, 1/8oz,1/4oz with 2x and 3x hooks in them. They are real nice. Haven’t caught any big fish on those tiny sizes yet, but he bigger ones hold up great to very large fish even on heavy line and rods. Have fun!
(You probably already know this, but just in case.) When using mono you are supposed to loosen the drag a bit when the fish gets close because there is only a small amount of stretch in the line at that point.
Hey bud, upgrade your line to 12 lb mono or 15 lb fluoro and they'll stop breaking off and they won't be line shy cuz it's hard to see. Or do braid with a fluoro carbon leader. You'll stop breaking off as much and have way more control over the fish even on a set up like that
Hey Justin its Eddie Richards.. I'm trying to make sure that I am a paying member of the channel.. Do I need to wait till you livestream?or is there a different way
Hey bud you are the kayak catfishing this is Josh again the only thing you have to do I have the same exact livescope as you with your trolling motor on a grizzly 1654 flat bottom you adjust your contrast and you're coloring brightness you know what to do food with that a little bit see if it makes a difference for you I'm on the Catawba River lake Norman not the Tennessee maybe a little different but try it out really shows me big fish that are touching bottom
Hey justin, love the vids man this one was cool and different would love to see some more of this just for the cats.. oh n I tie flies i would love too tie you a little care packadge of jigs if you could coment back with a jig hook you like and a place to send you the box, ill go grab some to tie on and hook you up brother! Much love from MI
How is you live scope setting set so you can see your jig one of the other videos you said your friend helped you get your setting set up to see your jig
Paper graph machine, goes up and down draws on Paper. He could read what it was doing, what kind of fish. Never came home empty. Striper and crappie was his fish.
The aera he is in had a coal ash spill some years back and it is recommended not to eat any fish from that stretch of the river also if I remember correctly, he stated he is not a fan of eating fish in general. I do not remember him ever keeping any fish to eat even when he has fished other bodies of water
Than he used color fishing line. 5ft per color. He would put it in there face. Every October he feed the neighbors fish and we would supply the supply and drinks and dessert.
I normally Live scope for Crappie on structure, when the Crappie aren't on that structure the Catfish move in. That's when Sudden Impact fiber bait and Livescope becomes deadly I got 27 Channel cats yesterday using that method
Hey Justin, we met at CatCon kc, you signed my tackle bag. I manufacture my own jig heads of varying sizes and can put in multiple size hooks, would you be interested in some 8th or 1/4 oz jigs with heavier wire hooks for this??
