You Guys are impressive. I never stopped smiling the whole video. That was awesome and Christa, that was a great job on your King. Again my jaws are sore from smiling...😁
I loved how you kept your cool and talked to your girlfriend I love that you didn't get mad you didn't get excited you talked really nice to her that's beautiful any coached her well
Dude, possible game changer for the ppl that wanna go salmon fishing but don't want to invest the money in downriggers, dipseys, new tackle, etc...phenomenal video!
Awesome video, I have never jigged them like that. I had a big boat on Michigan for 7 yrs. Caught lots on light rods, but all trolling. I may have to go try that! Awesome video! WTG!
Hot bite! Thanks, very encouraging. If you setup two vertical tube rod holders, on opposite sides, the rod you aren’t using won’t ever be underfoot. Congrats on a couple great battles!
Nice!!! you got me all jacked up to go jigging for Kings. I've done this before and know it is feast or famine. Congratulations on finding and catching some really nice fish. NFN
I've tried this jigging on other species.....Northern Pike....Flathead Catfish....and it definitely Works!! It's a great approach to catching really big fish ❤
Some friends and I are planning a trip to Lake Huron, near Cheboygan, 10 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge, this July and want to try jigging for lake trout or salmon. Everyone is saying that in July, those fish are down in deep cold water, maybe 100-200 feet. I saw that you were fishing in August and down 30 feet. Do you have any tips for how you found those fish initially? Just drive around slowly near drop-offs and try to locate the groups of fish with your fish finder, then start jigging? Were you looking for the bait fish or larger fish? Not sure about soft plastic bait, vertical minnows, spoons, i saw that you said you were using 1oz weights with your soft plastics? Thanks
On the west shore of Lake Michigan in June through august if you get a lot of consistent strong west winds it will push the warm water out and bring cold water in. This brings the fish in shallow and makes it easier to jig them. It doesn’t happen every year and when it does you have to have it perfectly timed. Once you find the right water temp i was just trying to locate bait and casting around it. Casting spoons and darter head jigs with plastic work well. If you can find water temps around 50-52 you should be in the chips.
Good thing you went back to get the cooler! 😉 our little secret! Gotta tell you I thought you were going to get skunked! Man that looks like so much fun! Great job!
A good friend and a little experience. Down imaging helped a little too. Livescope in my boat would be a touch unfair 😂. But seriously, i fished a mud line until i found the fish and then did my best to stay on them.
Magnificent fish, Magnificent fishing thanks. Keep your rod tip high girl. You're holding it horizontal, if you have the rod high pressure stays on. Lift and wind, lift and wind
Awesome video. Definitely would be great to start talking tactics for people that are starting out. Was this Michigan side or Wisconsin side? Don't need to know port or anything.
I usually cast it out and count how long it takes to get to bottom. That way on the next casts you have a rough estimate on where your bait is in the water column. Typically i like to keep my bait half way or higher in the water column
dont sit thru many king vids but this style of fishing for them seems fun not like a human winch when you troll,, great job looks like alot of fun... how deep were they
Great video brother!!! They’re fun for sure. I hoping Milwaukee will start soon for jigging!! What was your bait of choice? Where did you launch? How far north?
@@richardreilly6051 i believe they were Kalins heads also but not 100% sure.. bought them like 5yrs ago. They are the 1oz darter head style jigs. 1/2oz work too depending on wind and water depth
Hi and good evening. That was a great video. I wanna get started in the jigging for Salmon. I would like to know the name of the soft plastics you were using and what size jig. Thank in advance.
Oh yeah salmon is absolutely incredible table fair out of Lake Michigan. Ik up in Canada they use a lot of spoons and spinners for trout. Plastic tube jigs would be a good idea also
Just watched the vid, never thought to try and jig them. I was out in pretty much the same spot you guys were with a couple buddies 3 days later and we were 14/20 trolling with 2 over 25lbs. I would love to hook into them on lighter tackle, looks like so much fun.
Heck of a day. Mind sharing depth? We are in NW Indiana and I'd kill to find a jig bite for Kings around here. We get a window for lake trout during late ice where we can whack and stack on a jig bite. Haven't found that window for kings.
Sure was! We found the fish in 30-40’ on this day. Cooler water up north makes it a little easier to pattern the kings. Jigging Lakers through the ice sounds fun as heck though!!
@@CNCoutdoors Open water in the boat. Just difficult to put away the short sticks in those last couple of weekends where we still have good ice to get bundled up to go open water on the big lake.
Is that just a white kalins jerk minow . Any colors in it ? I have tryed jigging spoons no luck have not cought a fish sence i bought my rod and reel . Using 20lb braided medium heavy rod. The entire video was awesome i felt the excitement.happy fishing.
Thanks! It’s an absolute blast hooking up with those kings on light tackle. Yup, just a white 5” kalins jerk minnow with a 1oz fatter head jig. I was using my 7’ st. Croix medium fast action with 10lb braid and 15lb seaguar leader. 20lb braid should work too but make sure you have at least 6-7’ of floro leader. Jigging spoons will work too. I’ve had good luck on little Cleo’s
Nice work! I just started jigging lakers a couple weeks ago and am actually headed out in a little bit for salmon or lakers. If you don’t mind me asking, which port you were out of?
@@CNCoutdoors headed to Green Bay Thursday for some weekend walley and perch action. Hoping to get the boat out of Algoma Friday and see if we can’t jig up a few kings. Hopefully the bite is just as good
@@gramsey01 walleye bite has been kinda spotty from what I’ve seen the last couple days on the bay. Looks like we have some warmer more stable weather coming though so that’ll help. Should be able to find some salmon in shallow Friday for sure. Good luck!
Yup about 30-40’ seemed like the fish were around 10-15’ down. Water temp was anywhere from 61- 48 degrees but the fish were definitely stacked in the 52-53 degree water
What size hook do I want to pair those size jigs for the 5in jerk minnow. They sell them with 4/0 or 5/O....definitely going to try this. Any brand jig head work better then other in your experience?
@@CNCoutdoors I also watch some videos on them using jigging spoons. I will pick out a couple of those to try also. Do you use a 2500 size reels or bump up to 3500?
@@clarkvanstraten6003 i just used my walleye gear so my reel was a pfluger president 30. Od say that’s about the smallest you’d want to go. As far as the heads I’d say you’d be just fine with a 4/O. I use the Kalins darter head jigs but any darterhead style will work
@@CNCoutdoors Thanks I'm definitely investing in some new gear for this. This fall is probably out I'm healing up from Achilles tendon surgery. But I'm watching tons of you tube to learn some tips for doing this. Cant wait. Thanks for replying back. Good luck fishing. Your videos are great
Usually on the west side of Lake Michigan we just keep updated on the weather. We look for a couple days/ week of consistent west winds. June through august, west winds will push the warm water out and bring the cold water in which brings the salmon in close to shore. Typically I’ve always done good with water temps around 52 degrees. For baits i like to use 1oz darter head jigs with a 5” jerk minnow or fluke style bait. Jigging spoons like Cleo’s, shiver spoons, and binks can also be good. If you can find the bait with the right water temp there will usually be fish around, just have to use your electrics and do a lot of casting to figure it out. Hope this helps!!
