@antoniojohnson8443
@antoniojohnson8443 7 лет назад
RebelThoughts82 I wouldn't say promoted her more but he really messed up the timing. Her album came out 4 years after her debut on 1999 and 3 years after Purple Rain. She should have dropped right before Purple Rain or right after Purple Rain. When Vanity left all the focus should have been on her. Her voice is all over The Time records, Shelia E's record, and Vanity 6. Prince was giving songs to Sheena Easton, Shelia E, and Susannah that should have been Jill's solo record

If you listened to the interview , Prince was trying to get her album released but his label and radio stations had him jumping through hoops to get her and other acts played, “Hey Prince , play our Christmas party and we will play your artist music”, they were making him dance for something he earned

There were several people in Prince's camp who shoulda been bigger. Jill, Vanity, Morris, Jesse, and the Time as a group. There was alotta talent in Prince's purple circle who could've reached higher (Yeah, I know there were some who did like Sheila, Jimmy Jam and Terry), and it can get kinda frustrating that their names aren't known in more households. But the way I see it, as longs as there are things like these podcasts, or Prince.org or just us fans talking about all over social media, those people like Jill Jones, Vanity, Appollonia, Morris, Jesse etc. they still have fans of the like that so SO many others who have struggled in the entertainemnt business and never made it, would and could only wish for.

Jill Jones is the ultimate background vocalist with skills to sing any type of song. Her debut album is proof of that. She was “the secret weapon” in the early years when Prince was crafting those songs. J.J. is definitely an unsung hero who deserves mad respect & credit.

Thank you sooo much! Absolutely loved this entire interview. Never really knew much about Jill Jones or her level of involvement in Prince's life but this was a very honest and revealing look at their relationship and growth. She is an extraordinarily insightful, intelligent, funny, mature and spiritual woman and I am now interested in exploring HER solo music. When she said what is it going to be like when he is gone that is the same way I felt before Prince died. Although I wasn't as big a fan of Michael Jackson as I am of Prince, Michael's death really shook me. After Michael passed I took some small comfort in the knowledge that since Prince was a vegan, a Jehovah's Witness, didn't do drugs/alcohol (eg cocaine, etc), at least he would be with us for a long time. I looked forward to what an 80 year old Prince would be giving us musically and spiritually. I too became physically ill when I heard of his death - I felt like I lost a family member (being a friend - he didn't like the word "fan" - of his for almost 40 years). Altho as a Christian I should be celebrating his home going, I still (selfishly) mourn what he had yet to bless us with. Thank you Prince Podcast and thank you Jill Jones for sharing this with us!

Beautifully stated. Although we still have Prince’s music I felt like a part of me died when he passed. His music was so deeply intertwined with my coming of age but also as I transitioned into adulthood and beyond. Over the years, I felt like he’d shown so much growth and there was so much more for him to do.

I have listened to this interview more than once and each time I like Jill more. She is so insightful and has a lot to share about her relationship with Prince and what she learned. Very forthright, straight up and twelve o'clock. Prince's gift was very much a reflection of him. Prince's mission is mentioned in his memoir in the chapter, "New Beginnings." I don't think the comment that John L. made about her being like Delilah was quite right on and I understand why Jill was a bit insulted at the comment. Jill was the type of woman that Prince needed in his life. She was strong even then; not that she fully embodied this strength at the time, but she had the support of a nurturing family that she could depend on. This is something that Prince did not have. Because she had that support she did not lean on Prince so hard or engulf him. He had space to relax. As she said, he would do a record with a girl and he was done with her. We wonder why it took forever for Jill to get her album done? He did not want to let her go. I have done a fair amount of reading and thinking about how Prince related to people. It was always in the context of music because that was his life. Music was how he brought people into his life and how he kept them close. But once it got to a point of sharing deeply to bring the relationship to a deeper level, he would pull away. He did not know how to get beyond the music because he had never experienced being known beyond the music. Music was everything to him including the shelter in which he lived where the walls became thicker and stronger. Prince had some good women in his life; Mayte had an inner strength that eventually realized she was not going to continue to be disrespected, Elise Fiorillo who was not going to allow Prince to run her career, and Jill who has a tremendous amount of self-respect. I'm sure there are others but these women (and men who worked for Prince) who were strong individuals. Many of which were interviewed here. These are the ones Prince needed to make the effort to keep in his life; those who spoke his language and who weren't afraid to speak their mind. He would still be here if that had been the case.

Jill was the most authentic one in Purple Rain. Her last scene, right between Purple Rain and IWD4U is my favorite scene in the whole movie. You didn’t even have to ask her if her parts were real for me to know it. Of course they were. Either they were real or she’s another Meryl Streep because she definitely had me convinced. That scene (my favorite) where he’s backstage, thinking he lost everything and the crowd began to roar. He turns around and there is Jill, ready to be his everything. He says “hi” and walks past. He didn’t even stop to hear her say “hi” back. That look on her face! That crushed me. It still does. That short scene, with just two words, said so much. Man, I felt that. It’s the same with the songs on her album. Her performance is so authentic. Either she wrote those songs or he knew her so well that he could see inside her. Who else could pull off Baby, You’re A Trip and rival Prince’s version? That was REAL. We deserve a remastered reissue of her album.

Jill's cool she has a lot of insight into Prince early years. But truly I always saw her as just a side chick. I mean engagement, other girl here another girl there. And I love Prince but damn he was playing the hell out of her. You know people will dish out all kind of bs especially if your dumb enough to believe it and take it. That's why I loved Vanity so much. She walked away from the bs. And I think Prince respected her and loved her just that much more for doing so.

@@glendahamm5750 If your man is telling you in private and emotionally loving on you, that he loves you and wants to keep you around, I can see how she believe and wanted it to be true. I think at the time he's telling her he loves her, he really did at the time, its called blinded by love, of course things changed over time for prince, like when a girl walked into the room and it changed jill's life and plans, I fill sorry for the hurt that caused her heart, because she spent almost 10 years, shy of 3 months waiting for him, but I think she was only his lover for almost 6 years, that's a long time, but she was where she wanted to be at the time and had a lot of fun and memories. Thank you Prince Podcast for this revealing and frank interview with Jill. I knew something of Jill from talk over the years about her solo album on Paisley Park. It has a high reputation, but was almost impossible to find in the UK at least, and even then at a very high price. What really triggered my interest though was the version of ‘Baby You’re a Trip’ on the ‘Originals’ album. The way Jill’s vocals blend and harmonize with those of Prince make this for me one of the very best songs he was ever involved with. And it wasn’t even released in his lifetime, at least outside of Jill’s solo effort. Now I have been fortunate enough to get hold of Jill’s album, and I can hear that the hype was no hype. What a talent, the best of the Prince Protégés bar none. This podcast helped me fill in all those questions I now had. And I found it a very soothing and spiritual experience, perhaps mirroring parts of my own life in some ways, though without the talent Jill has in spades of course. So thank you Prince Podcast for this. And thank you Jill for everything you have given us, we are truly blessed.

Jill knows exactly what women need to stop doing. Stop being jealous of other women's looks. Every woman no matter how good looking goes through bad feelings and can even worse from women bullying women. Listen closely how Jill talks about Vanity ( Denise). Spot on Jill! We all feel the same emotions but women feel attractive women don't have it hard in this world. We all need and want validation. Jill sounds like she had it tough being attractive herself, to talk that way, she must have self awareness of the woman world. As she says attractive women never get complimented. I wrote so much about the Vanity speech knowing women would hear past the point she was making about Vanity( Denise) and ALL women. There is so much to learn about mysoginistic people in the music industry, by listening closely to this interview.

She sounds like such an intelligent beautiful strong lady. No arrogance or inflated ego + it sounds like she was very objective when it came to judging others. Sounds like she really knew, + cared for, Prince. So why wasn’t he able to settle down + marry Jill + commit to a great friend like her. It would have been so nice to have seen him married with a few kids but something tells me that he had too many emotional problems he was trying to deal with. Another thing was in the documentary “Prince: the man, the myth, the legend” they portray both his parents as being religious hypocrites, mentally abusive towards him, + kicking him out of his home when he was 12....but Jill described them as wonderful + that both parents were great people who he got along with well????? Confusing!!!
@briannaburch6737
@briannaburch6737 3 года назад
Again she didn’t wanna bash his parents But they have their own issues his mother wasn’t really able to care for him because she had an issue with substances and his father viewed him as huge competition and made him feel like he was worthless when it came to pursuing a music career of his own so and also he was abandoned by them at a young age which can cause any person to Me to control everything about their life and not commit to anything because it causes trust issues these are Tactics that form from abuse unfortunately

I was captivated with this interview...JJ is the real deal. Gotta be transparent...the main interviewer...geez...I truly wish sometimes he would not interrupt and just allow Jill to flow...and for God sakes, ask the right questions at the right time...killing me. But this is by far the most real, poignant and insightful of all the interviews that I have listened to...so for that I am grateful.

Prince was very private so I am glad these former lovers are being respectful about it. Even those who have "spilled" a little bit on that such as Mayte and former Playboy Playmate Devin Devasquez, described him as very sweet and gentle, something of that nature, so nothing shocking, but that doesn't mean there were some he probably got a little freaky with because another former lover Robin Power, who was also in Graffiti Bridge said that when he was with her, he liked threesomes. That man was something else, lol.💜💜
