I am watching the series now,it is very welll done. I have to say it is the most moving series I have seen in a long time. Unfortunately it has been cancelled by HBO. Maybe another company will pick up again. I was really looking forward to Mma Makutsi and her romance with "Phuti. The world needs more shows like this, not that reality crap and gratuitous violence.
I lived in Botswana for 10 years before returning to India...and i love Alexander Mcall Smith's books...they're so simply put and so realistic as well! Can't wait to see this movie! Loved Botswana...
When you live in a foreign land & you watch this tears run off you face coz you suddenly realize how much you miss home & that there would never be any other place like Africa so no matter how far the world takes us Africans the motherland will always be home sweet home
sHE IS PERFECT~ It isn't supposed to be a documentary is it. It would not have the same audience if it weren't for Jill scott. She is EXCELLENT in the role. Period.
I understand what you're saying, 100% but i don't ever see it as a minus when someone....no matter who, takes time to tell an uplifting, thought provoking, and sensitive stories, about black africans...i applaud whomever does it.
Batswana the happy people..i Luv my country! cant wait to go back..Jill, The Batswana will never 4get you..Come back again 4 the next movie n um goona be part of it!!..Bots love..
I certainly want to go.. for the people, the music and the fabric and the animals.. and just to connect to the earth my ancestors once stood on! LOVE THE SHOW!
Anthony Mighaila! Lovely human being! Motivational as a director. He was always humming some delightful tune only heard by him throughout the sets...I loved him MHSRIP. He seemed more at home than other black actors and who were foreigners. Although it was the first time to see a movie being shot I related so well and wished to have been involved more, No 1 Ladies Directive could have been a breakthrough and had the potential to kick-start a movie industry here. .it could easily have if all keyplayers and drama people in Botswana had been involved particularly veterans who used to stage drama or plays at the town hall like Ishmael Komanyane, Khura, Eugene Mayisela, Martha tswebebe-Mokgwathi, Ausi Vickie, Batho Seboni and Mpho and Barolong Seboni, Potlako Janki, Noma Alidi, Gilbert Mangole...As a socialite, I imagined so many characters in Botswana who could easily have added much more life, humour and magic into the film even if they may have never acted before ,,.Names of the late Mangu, Mathuba, yster, City Ntebela, Zane Matshaba, Dibamba, Mike Oliver came rushing into my mind..HE the President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi is also a good actor,
Jill in a Minghella film. Can't wait. Jill Definitely has screen presence. I think she will be an exceptional actor. Prediction. The film will be a hit and catapult Jill into moviestardom. Big ups 2 whoever cast her in the role.
People I live in Gaborone, it's not that dusty. That's the rural areas of Botswana. We have clubs and everything. Come to Botswana and see what I'm talking about. I hate that all they show is dust and donkeys.
Film just finished. It was brilliant! Beautifully made, well directed and great cast! I hope this comes out on DVD. Would be great to watch this again.
ive been reading some reviews on those books apparently it was a bestselling super hit....where was i?? I cant wait to see it....looks refreshing plus i no nothing about Botswana...oh and I luv Jill Scott too
Botswana is a middle income country. High levels of AIDS yes, but still middle income. In any case, it brings tourism which is always good, and if the government didn't pay they would have no say in what goes into the movie, which meant that botswana culture might not be portrayed accurately or positively, or the producers might go to a cheaper part of Africa since western audiences wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
where botswana government get money from to co finance movie? i wan to know aint nothin else in the country need to be done? holloywwod HBO and BBC have enough money to make that damn movie the gov't never need to contribute
