JIM BAILEY sings Barbra Streisand on Carol Burnett ''Dont rain on my parade'' 

He was the best in the biz and one of the few impressionists who sang with their own natural voice...a lot of performers just lip synch to recordings....R.I.P.Jim! My late dad was a huge fan too!

Needs to be respected by today's drag community. This performance alone is better than an entire series of Drag Race

Interesting to see how Carol & company set the show up. First they introduce Jim in a tuxedo, explain what he does with pictures, and then finally allow him to perform in full drag. Probably the only way to get female impersonation on television back in 1972. Kudos to Carol for introducing Jim to America.

He sounded most like Garland & Phyllis Diller. His Streisand impersonation was excellent. Didn’t “sound” like her, but the mannerisms, look & vocal inflections were spot on. I admired the fact he didn’t lip sync to any of them. He had the guts to use his own voice, which was an incredible instrument. God Bless him.

I saw Jim Bailey perform as Judy Garland in concert. He was amazing and magical. His voice ( as Judy's voice) was incredible. He was an incredible artist.

His voice is INCREDIBLE! I've watched this more than once enjoying his powerful and fully controlled voice and how he savors the entire song, act and costume. What incredibly perfect timing, confidence and ability! A true entertainer with amazing talent!

Incredible. What a beautiful voice! I know his career was built on impersonating other performers, but he's not just a mimic. He has an incredible talent and worked really hard to mold it into all these crazy good impersonations. Babs is one of a kind, and yet he really does sound just like her. It's beautiful and wonderful and Jim Bailey is missed by so many and now one more. RIP

If Jim were alive today he would be too talented for that idol show.

I just read an article about Jim Bailey and started to look for more. He was an incredible performer!

When I was a student back in the day (1977!) I worked at The London Palladium theatre box office when Jim Bailey appeared with a sell out show featuring all his female stars. He was so good, we had to read out a disclaimer when people rang for tickets reminding the punters he was a man. Such a talented and nice guy.

There have been so many Streisand impersonators over the years. Sadly, none has ever gotten the voice right. But Jim was perfection on the mannerisms! And his Judy was top notch!

Incredible. It's great talent for a woman to accurately impersonate other women. But when a dude does it, yeah, that's incredible.

Jim's life story would be great to bring to the screen. Not many people know about him and they should.

I saw Bailey perform live, once, in of all places Newport, KY at a trendy gay club. His impression of Judy Garland was perfect, including starting about 20 minutes after the appointed curtain time, and included a monologue which referred to her brief rivalry at MGM with Deanna Durbin and a comment on that particular soprano's mono-brow, which before electrolysis resembled that of Frida Kahlo. After the intermission, he appeared as himself singing "I, Capricorn," which had been recorded on the flip side of his one and only LP.

if carol could have gotten the real thing do u think she would have settled for jim bailey?.....don't think that barbara was too busy but in the late 60' s n all of the 70's barbara was a hot property n did not need the likes of the carol burnett show...jim bailey was the rupaul of his time....he did not disappoint here..."dont rain on my parade" is barbara's signature song n he is doing it at a time when it was its most popular n does not do a bad job with it at all....and if lucy booked you on her show you are among the best...and all the female impersonaters i have ever seen lip sync.....he using his own singing voice here.....the practice it had to take for him to get to this level....and he owed carol a huge thanks because this was barbara's show stopper during this time and his audition tape....do you know the gigs he must have booked from this one appearance(vegas was huge then n now)...and he did not dissappoint here!!!...voice/mannerisms....he nailed it!!!...he is doing what he was put here on the planet 2 do..i aint made him...GOD BLESS...RIP!!!

Remember, Jim Bailey didn't lip sync. He was an impressionist of the highest degree.

I read somewhere that when Judy saw Jim "do" her, she remarked, with her usual self-deprecating humor, "I had no idea that I was so pretty!"

Gays were everywhere in the 70s, Paul Lynde Liberace. I was a child. I never even thought of gay or anything like that, it was just too entertaining to think of anything else.

I remember when Jim Bailey came out to Australia about 30 years ago with a full show of homages; the words impression or impersonation just don't do justice to this man's talent.

So fantastic. Done in a time when celebrities had to have real talent and could be hilariously funny without a single foul-mouthed remark or swear. Thanks Jim for a great memory. So glad RU-vid is a platform that can preserve these great moments in entertainment history. Be wonderful if this type of clean, talented entertainment made a comeback. I'd probably start watching TV again. My favorite show in the early 70s was The Kopycats.

This is my very first time seeing you perform (a Streisand number), and I have been amazed at your talent. Not only are you a wonderful singer, but you are also a charming personality.
