I think it's cool that at that moment in time..he had no idea he was going to be making over 20 Million a film.....people who know him know he's the same guy then as he is today..talented, slapstick silly and kind hearted. Well done Jim
Sorry to disagree....BUT....his star faded over the years. The Truman show was the last thing remotely good. Robin had limitless talents and to me Jim is just a bad copy of him!!!
No, no, no... I disagree with ALL of you! BOTH Robin and Jim Carrey faded. They both burned brightly at one time -- ironically brightest around the early 1990s -- but there came a time when MOST of us got fed up with them and didn't care much for what they were doing anymore! I'm not gonna political but honestly they've offended at least half the population, too, with their political causes but enough sidetracking. Point is, Robin Williams got sainted because he died... If he were still alive today, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Limitless talent? Eh... Matter of opinion. I got kind of tired of the manic behavior myself. There's only so much you can take of two-three-year old sugar highs from a middle-aged man before you get tired of it. I personally doubt Jim Carrey will go down the exact same road as Robin Williams but he peaked a long time ago. The question is whether he'll ever be relevant to most people again but he definitely made a huge ripple at one time in show business. Now, I would say he's only slightly above where Eddie Murphy is.
***** I always respected his Fisher King's role and some others. Not a fan of Mrs' Doubtfire and such stuff. I prefer Robin in dramas rather than comedies.
Please hes tame compared to the guys of the 70s and 80s that would be on that show, Hed be more like WTF with Dean Martin and Sinatra, and a bunch of the other people from then as well
The more I see of Johnny Carson, the more I get why he is the best ever. It's mainly to his egolessness with the guests, he just letting it flow, no need to be as funny as the guest and just pure genuine reactions.
Be grateful you're still REALLY young. I'd give my non-existent eye teeth to go back to 32, or 42, or even 52! But, I do know exactly what you mean, and I felt exactly the same way at the time about similar things. PLEASE promise me you won't squander your youth like I did!
I wonder if Kevin Bacon sued over that impression of him. I thought it was funny, but I'm just saying he could've sued because he was making fun of his facial appearance.
Ya in the US this style was more early 90s. Maybe late 80s but definitely saw more of what Carreys rep'n here in the 1990s. The 80s were a bit different. Im not much of a style guy so its hard to explain but I know it when I see it.
The fact that Jim was self aware about it though is pretty unusual to me. He realized how funny-looking it was even back when it was supposed to be fashionable.
@@fractalspace1111 "should be questioning the president" - shut up with the disingenuousness. There was no questioning coming for Obama by Jim Carrey. It's about picking sides and he has sided with the communist left.
Seinfeld is right in his recent comments about late night TV hosts. So many hosts today are using each guest to showcase their own wit and talent, instead of what Carson did, which was to bring out anything he could from the guest.
Yeah, all Jimmy Fallon cares about is bringing on famous people and then doing something with them to make himself the center of attention. All the way down to how he is always looking into the camera when he does something.
@@JazzFlop212 lol you aren't wrong.. Kimmel is best playing second fiddle. And I love how no one sees Guillermo as a racist representation but yet not liking rap is considered racist LOL
Both men were deeply disturbed! They can keep BOTH!! Johnny was very unforgiving person. Sooo, Im just now wondering what he did when he stood before God. Knowing that we will all be forgiven according to how we forgave? 🤔😧 just saying! ???
Ryan Cork and the snowflakes hosting these days? Yes you are correct. Leftist has transformed so many liberals into nazi free speech haters. They will eat their own if it isn’t the party line. And if you made a joke10 years ago that might could be interpreted as racist, sexist, or making fun of homosexuals, you are forever a horrible person whom they feel must be taken down. This is serious hateful stuff and idiotic. Hypocritical. It is the Democratic Party’s line.
Jim Carrey is one of the funniest physical comedians since Jerry Lewis. Although worlds apart he has that style that comedians like him need to perform, His facial features for some reason make me laugh.
Jim is a comedic genius. Best physical comedian in eight decades. His performance in “Mask” was brilliant. He had to learn to handle the pain of his Grinch costume from a Navy Seal. True. Now that's commitment! He’s right up there with Charles Chaplin. "Alllllllll righty then!"
Johnny Carson was always a class act as a talk show host. He hosted the tonight show for over 30 years - longer then anyone. He took it over from Jack Parr back in the 60's when it was based in NYC and went Live at 11:30. They moved the production to Malibu but still kept the 11:30 EST time slot. No other talk show host past or present can hold a candle to JC - including David Letterman (who is pure NY if u ask me and annoying). May he forever RIP
Love this dude's comedy. Some people will find it immature. That's the genius of it. It never gets old. I STILL watch his old movies and laugh like its the 1st time I've seen it.
You misunderstood me. I was saying it was STILL side-splitting humor in 2014 like it was in 1991. I was watching the video in 2014. And if you notice, I called it classic.
@@kookaine2614 He does love what he does, and he loves sex, but there is a time and place for everything. He was out with his family which is not the time or place to be acting, just like Kmart is not the place for sex.
Had some of my best sex in Kmarts. Instead of “Your savings place…” if Kmart had hired an ad agency that wrote a “Come to Kmart for the best sex you ever had!” campaign, Kmart would still be a top retailer today.
I know Jim Carrey personally, and he’s an amazing human being . Brilliant,@ extremely personable . He’s a great guy , nothing phony about Jim . He’s just extremely private, and here to learn and grow, like the rest of us .
Do you really? That's awesome. I think I saw every one of his movies, in theaters no less. If you meet him again, could you let him know that Alex the lawyer from NJ is a big fan?
I just realized how Jim Carrey always looks depressive at the end of every joke or phrase. When he stop talking, he always get "serious", a little "sad", and he look down almost everytime. It's like...when he's on a joke, he seems to have some fun. But at the end of the joke, he wakes up to reallity.
I think that reference was already too old for the audience even in 1991. Probably didn't help that I think that face-melting scene was always cut out on TV airings.
The brilliant thing about Jim is that he says these really simple lines; but his delivery, facial expression and body language is so spot on that it's just special. Talk about comedic timing, this dude is the master.
@@MrJSpicoli He is still quite masterful even if he is not in the public eye as much a previous years. He is wealthy and can chill out and not be affected by the comments of others (re: you). He is a talented individual who did not give up in the face of adversity to reach his goals.
I never noticed until recently how handsome Mr. Carrey was -- perhaps because he often had his face all contorted when in character. One of the best-looking comedy greats, in my opinion.
One of the many reasons why Carson was a gem in the talk show world was that he had the best laugh. Totally spontaneous and real and from the heart. On the contrary Letterman had many fake laughs. Another reason he was a true gentleman and always respectful and always letted his guests shine whilst he himself remained in the background from where he secretly directed the show.
Long long ago Id watched hs movies like mask, nd somother movies. What can I say? Realy no words abt his performance. It's just aowsome. His body language.voice, I forget all my sorrows
Rip John Ritter, Scott Thompson of " Kids in the Hall" (SNL of Canada) said that Ritter is the reason that he (Scott) got into comedy in the first place.
@@NickFouladi11 I just passed by Hollywood High School earlier today and of course thought of John Ritter (and then Fairfax High where I thought of the Red Hot Chili Peppers ha ha)
I can definitely see the similarities of Jim Carey and Robin Williams, and I actually thought that it could be possible the same thing that happened to Robin could happen to Jim. But as I kind of compare them more closely, I realized that Carrey always seemed to have much more control and a calm mindset when talking in interviews, people, etc.
That Carson guy. I know nothing about him except that he was the host on that show for many years. But just watching this for a few minutes, he has so much class, charisma and "cool", for lack of a better word. Calm, professional and confident, he makes you feel "at home" and comfortable. Makes me want to watch more of him, I must say.
This dude made it because his comedy was all his own...such a unique character and mind to do what he does...that guy must've been one hilarious friend to have in school.
@Dick Burns - No he put out a couple of good movies after that, his issues started when he did that Andy Kaufman film. In 2017 they did a bio of that movie with Jim talking about it. You will notice that making that movie literally made Jim Carrey crazy. He truly gained mental health issues after that movie and if you watch the bio of it you will see it in his eyes. I liked Bruce Almighty and Liar Liar but I think his best work was that movie the number 23. I always felt he would make a good dramatic actor with a touch of evil, he should do a serial killer type role. But lately with all his anti_ Conservative BS he has ruined his chances of having another hit movie.
I hate that the Carson episodes on Antenna TV are only talk guests....NEVER EVER SHOWING THE FANTASTIC SINGERS THAT HE HOSTED.....for example.....Linda Ronstadt.....who had a wonderful fling with the above mentioned Jim Carrey!
He’s just a few years older than Jack Nicholson was as joker. I think he could still do it. Especially with today’s movie skills. Of course I would have to be an older Batman too. Would’ve been good with Ben affleck maybe
Lol. He must have driven his teachers nuts. Good for the one who let him do his set at the end of class after doing his work. Diplomacy and detente in action.
Great physical comedic actor one of the last. Every movement and sound effect he made would have me in tears. One of my favorite scenes is when he was making Steve Carrol mumble in Bruce Almighty
