Indeed. This movie has a special place in my heart for its outrageousness, but he’s at his best playing the normal guy in extraordinary circumstances. Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty are peak Jim Carrey.

I’m pretty sure they never had customers get into the ring and fight like this in Medieval Times restaurants. It would be an insurance nightmare, especially if one of them got hurt. But yea, looks like a lot of fun lol

There's a whole fighting sport dedicated to armoured combat, these days. Medieval mma and Battle of Nations, for example.

Try LARPing if you want story and fantasy elements; look up SCA combat if you want to just smack people. Only downside of either is the cost of owning your own gear, but lots of groups can loan gear for free or cheap.

Yea the lawyers would be all over this. I don't recall if they made them sign a waver in the movie, but the fact they're using real weapons would be... problematic.

In some place you can, its a sport now, people dress up in armor and fight and do the horse thing i forgot how it called.

Can be particularly dangerous, even if you've trained in it, as even a blunted lance hitting you in the wrong spot could shatter your ribs, or break your arm when it impacts the shield... not to mention any injuries you can get when being thrown from the horse. There's no way any insurance company would pay out on random people (especially those just thrown into the fight, not those professionals hired by the show-holder) The armour dress-up can either be LARPing, or just generally going to one of these themed events, like Renfest in Texas and other renaissance festivals.

Bro, that's why the film nearly ruined Carry's career. People went in expecting a comedy film but what they got was a weird tone deaf thing. It had a horror film obsession plot but was for some reason a comedy, so it failed at being either. It could never have a comedy ending where they end up being friend and it couldn't have someone murdered at the end to make it a horror. It could never be satisfying as a film.

Someone has to kill the babysitter. Meaning parents need to stop putting there kids in front of TV cuz that becomes there true parents

@Mark Milton This film is the best example for film teachers on how not to blend genre. It has a horror ending that has no bite even though it seemed like it was trying to be funny throughout and not doing that well.

@@TheCaptinAwesomo I'm inclined to agree on that. Cabin in the Woods is a pretty good, contemporary example of how to blend horror and comedy well. I think the key to it is that you can blend genres all day long with a film, but at the end of the day, you kind of have to put your foot down and decide on an actual overall tone. Cabin in the Woods ultimately said "Yea, this is definitely a horror movie.. but we can put in a few good laughs here and there." Cable Guy seemed to just walk straight down the middle between creepy, stalker horror and goofy Jim Carrey comedy such that the film could not give a satisfying ending as you pointed out. I felt like the film just couldn't decide what it wanted to be.

in the earlier scene where Jim Carrey asks Matthew Broderick for his chicken skin, he places it on his face and imitates Hannibal Lecter. You can see Matthew crack a small/laugh but still maintain his posture to preserve the take.

Restaurants like that do exist... "Medieval Times" They don't let the patrons fight, but a show just like that is put on by professionals.
