I guess it was around 1988 I wrote to Dr Mike Lano and asked him how I could get into tape trading. I guess I got his address out of the Observer or the Torch, I don't remember. But free of charge he sent me a video tape of New & All Japan Wrestling and some traders lists. I remember a bunch of George Takano & Super Strong Machine matches. From there I started a large collection. I will always remember that nice gesture. Thanks Dr Mike Lano!

@@michaelkaminski8339 Ha. Eventually I started taking the train to the ferry to Manhattan. Then take the subway to some Japanese book & video stores. The video store were I wound up getting most of my tapes from wouldn't buzz me in at first because I'm not Japanese. I had to wave cash into the security camera and beg until they opened the door. I wrote down the Japanese symbols for the different wrestling promotions and then matched them to labels on the tapes. They were recording tv shows in Japan and shipping them to NYC. So it wasn't like they were commercial tapes with pictures to make it easy. Plus they would not help me. It was a real pain in the ass! Now everything is on RU-vid.

Why are Doctors always the craziest people?

I'm guessing if a doctor finds nothing wrong with themselves, they conclude with high authority that nothing is wrong with them. I'm told by the doctors in my family that doctors are terrible patients.

About 20 years ago or so when he was at his peak, Dr Mike Lano was heavily involved in wrestling on the West Coast and Japan. He was a dentist, wrestling photographer, DVD and tape maven, dated porn stars (plural), fixed wrestlers’ teeth and in general, was a larger than life character on the periphery of the wrestling business. He knew almost everyone and was the topic of a lot of stories.

He pulled one on Filsinger Games saying he could sign a lot of the Japanese wrestler to the game. Some of the wrestlers get published and there is some question if they were ever signed in the first place. So we Filsinger games 'promoters' no about his chaos.

Regarding Mike Lano's Canvas Cavity public access show, back when I was helping out with the late Roland Alexander's wrestling school in the 1990s, Roland got Michael Modest on Lano's show on one occasion. This was a few years before the footage was shot of Modest for the Beyond The Mat movie. I also met Lano on a prior occasion at a get-together to watch the 1992 WCW Beach Blast PPV. He's certainly an interesting character, and I especially remember him being a notorious name-dropper.
