I paid $500 🇨🇦 for tickets to see SmackDown and another $500 to see Money in the Bank here in Toronto. The last live wrestling show I saw was WrestleMania X-8. Current WWE has pulled me back in after 20 years away from it.

WWE being hot right now IS a factor, but what the marks forget is that it isn't the only factor. The main factor that is crippling AEW is Tony Clown and the EVP's management of the company; the booking, talent choices, execution of segments, etc. The stans being delusional and ignoring these issues has also fed into Clown's ego and isn't going to solve these problems.

I got caught up in the early AEW fever and even attended Full Gear in Minneapolis. AEW has done everything it can to make me uninterested in it's product.

Lately I've noticed some AEW faithful saying "well it's because of competition from AEW that WWE has gotten better." Is that what AEW wants to be remembered as? I thought they wanted to be a long-term alternative promotion. Was WCW's mission statement "to make WWF better through competition?"

I don't care about anything AEW does anymore, and I'm more invested in WWE than I've been in years. And I'm not the only one that feels that way.

AEW came along at a time when WWE was in a major slump and fans including myself were so sick of Vince McMahons bullshit, and there was such a demand for an alternative, so AEW for its first 3 years was able to capitalize on disgruntled fans and the signing of CM Punk was by far the biggest acquisition they could’ve made and it boosted them even further. But then the worst thing that could’ve happened to AEW happened: Vince McMahon is forced out of WWE so now many lapsed fans including myself are willing to give HHH a shot and see if he can fix some of the major issues we’ve had with WWE over the last few years, and so far he’s proven up to the task, he’s certainly not perfect but nobody can question that HHH knows more about wrestling than any of us will ever know, and the talent seem much more free and motivated by the change in leadership. Tony Khan is the exact opposite, he doesn’t know fuck all about wrestling, or booking, or how to create stars, and he can’t tell the difference between a legitimate star and an indie sideshow. Beyond that AEW has been known to be chaotic that’s one of the major reasons Stephanie Vaquer chose WWE over AEW, WWE for all its flaws has structure, it’s run by people who know what they’re doing, they have world wide appeal, AEW is where every other promotion shows up under 1 umbrella, they do all their own shit and there’s no structure or direction in anything they do, it’s just fantasy booking with no build or storyline and a lot of the talent they have either can’t or doesn’t know how to get over and AEW can’t do a damn thing to help em.

To Brian’s point. There was a time where they had all the star power just waiting to happen. Wardlow, skye blue, Ricky starks, etc. All people who were on the cusps of being megastars for AEW. But somehow lost their spots to Chris Jericho, Orange Cassidy, the Young Bucks and any new toy he got his hands on. All their star power diminished faster than it was ever given a chance to shine.

If folks were honest, AEW was never hot. It was a new "tv show" that folks wanted to see beat a 'so called' senile old man, who still kicked their a**. AND then they found out their boss was even worse and more delusional, when new management came in.

The worst thing to ever happen to AEW was Vince getting booted.

Here's a good example......WWE has a monster in Bron Breaker ( I still think he should have won over Sammy ). But they are slowly pushing him up the ladder. AEW has Wardlow......Where's he been? On a milk carton? Same thing with Ricky Starks? The people they could build around to have a actual storyline are nonexistent! Look what they are doing to "Big Bill?" You just can't take AEW serious as a professional wrestling company.

Tony puts out a product for a very niche audience, and a show with a hardcore fanbase like his can go on forever if he could be smart about running it. But he seems to think that he's big time, and he spends WWE type money for an audience smaller than Vince Russo's TNA. That cannot sustain itself long term.

TNA is wayyy more entertaining than aew in my opinion.

There are wrestlers on AEW that I would more than happily tune in to see but every show they do nothing seems to make any sense. I wish they would do a better job of presenting who wrestlers are and what they bring to the table and why they’re challenging so-and-so.

AEW has been bad for years. People just started paying attention once Vince was forced out and the WWE product improved. They aren't able to hide behind him anymore.

They exposed themselves the moment they decided to air the Punk/Perry footage. It confirmed that they don’t prioritize business but instead make rash decisions based on emotions. They got upset when Punk exposed the unprofessionalism within the company, so they released the footage thinking it would make Punk look bad. However, they then took it down with copyright strikes when the fans collectively agreed it was a bad move. Their biggest heel group right now, the EVPs, are not taken seriously as heels whatsoever. They’ve turned one of the best wrestlers, Okada, into a weekly joke with silly little moments. Yes, it’s cute, but are we, the fans, supposed to take him seriously? AEW has a talented roster, but they don’t know how to use them or run a business.

Listen up AEW marks. This is real simple, when a tv show is holding their ratings, or increasing them over time, they are doing good. When a tv show starts at 1 million viewers, then it drops to 900k viewers, then it drops to 800k viewers, then it drops to 700k viewers, then it drops under 700k viewers, they are not doing good. It shows that over time the people who were watching it, stop watching, so they are losing their own viewers.

Another big issue with AEW are the storylines (if any!) that are just spontaneous. Things happen just to happen without explanation, people turn on each other with no follow-up or payoff, people form a faction for no reason, like why does everybody that arrive have to be part of a freaking faction?! In the last few months alone we've had like a dozen heel turns with no build-up such as the Mogul Embassy betraying Swerve, Kris Statlander turning on Willow, Mercedes turning heel, the Best Friends break up, MJF betrays Garcia, and recently now Mariah May betraying Toni Storm. Am I missing any recent random betrayals/heel turns?

AEW didn't start with fans. They started with disgruntled WWE fans. Essentially WWE fans were like the fed-up wife who packed her bags and said "if you don't get a job and stop drinking I'm never coming back" and then he stopped drinking and got a job, so we came back and their new squeeze AEW did nothing to keep them. Its really a combo a both.

It’s not because WWE has recognizable actual STARS people care about, storylines that are cohesive and understandable, not because AEW does something with someone and then they disappear for a long time, and the fact that the booking is all over the place in AEW. Nope it’s just because WWE is the hotter product. That’s what Bryan Alvarez will have us believe.
