In the late 50s, my grandparents took two small kids to a shopping center in Portland and found themselves in a crowd. There was a small stage and a handful of wrestlers, along with a shop owner, were drawing names for giveaways. The Grand Prize was a HUGE 17" tv (remember the time frame). My grandfather dropped their names in the hat for the drawings. Baron Michele Leone pulled my grandmothers name. Not paying attention, she believed that she had won the tv. When she got to the stage, Baron Michele Leone gave her the prize she had actually won: a kiss (on the goddamned mouth) from the Baron and four tickets to the matches. Until the day she passed, she winced every time she recounted the story.

I dig Gary Hart.....he was always my favorite manager growing MOSTLY because he seemed legit but also the mystery surrounding him....or what I perceived as mystery....my exposure to Gary was the J-Tex thing in the NWA and then managing Al Perez there and in Dallas. As I got older though and began to learn about all the things he did booking wise and then read his book...my respect for him was at a peak. But I think the thing I liked best about Gary Hart was his interview segments in the documentary "Heroes of World Class"...his comments about the Von Erichs, Chris Adams and especially Gino Hernandez...genuine, sincere...God Bless Gary Hart.

Buzz Sawyer was the most naturally gifted pro wrestler ever. He was arguably the top star in Georgia and nationwide on TBS from 1982-1983. Personally if I could only watch the matches and promos of one wrestler it would be Buzz Sawyer. Technically brilliant, always entertaining, incredibly physical and stiff, tremendously strong, always on the offensive, a selfless seller and great on the microphone Buzz Sawyer was the complete package. Jim described Sawyer perfectly as a beast and a vicious heel. Gordon Solie considered Buzz Sawyer one of the greatest wrestlers he ever saw. "Low center of gravity, tremendous body control and one double tough hombre" is how Solie described him on an edition of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Sawyer was a staunch promoter of the sport because his matches always looked real. Sawyer looked like he was really kicking the crap out of his opponent because truth is he was. When I think of growing up in the early 1980s as a wrestling fan Buzz Sawyer stands out in my memory as being a top star and a hall of famer.

Historical correction regarding Buzz Sawyer. He came to WCW in late '89 as part of Gary Hart's "J-Tex Corporation" with Muta, Terry Funk and "the Dragon Master" (wasn't he one of the American versions of Kendo Nagasaki? Can't remember offhand his name when he worked in Stampede--one of the numerous Asian performers who went as a "Mister So-and-So"; he was one of the guys who helped train Bret Hart, if memory serves). He was in the Clash of Champions main event against the Horsemen when they turned heel that night (the one where Sting injured his knee trying to climb the cage), and audience reacted by cheering on the J-Tex heels--most specifically, Muta (a missed opportunity to make Muta a face if he had planned to stick around). He left by the spring of 1990. Can't remember if he came back briefly in '91 as Brian Last recalls, but if it was only briefly for some west coast house shows, it's plausible.

Two years later you get your answer: The guy you were thinking about was the late Kazuo Sakurada. He was Mr. Sakurada with the Stampede promotion, and he worked as Kendo Nagasaki in that J-Tex angle. As a side note: the other Kendo Nagasaki in the States was the late Rey Urbano.

Something is up with WWE. Can't help but sense that they're purposely trying to tank their own company. Why? Don't know, that's the mystery. But something is definitely up with WWE. There's no effort put forth in PROPERLY storing their own history - let alone, wrestling history in general. And with the Peacock deal, they've obviously checked-out at this point (when you're getting paid over 9-digits guaranteed, and stop caring about the quality of the product... again, something is up with WWE).

I hate the way Steve Williams career is judged by the lame shoot fighting idea from Shit Stain. I wish more people would remember the man had an unscripted injury, had to get over 100 stitches over his eye and wrestled that night.

I mean, Hogan in his speech thanked Vince for the NWO which was stupid if for no other reason simply because THE NWO WAS IN WCW & ALSO THE NWO RUN IN VINCE'S COMPANY SUCKED.

One comment on this: reverse racism technically doesn't exist. Racism is racism, regardless of who it is against. That is the technical definition of the world. I think picking people to meet quotas in general is racist, regardless of which quota they are trying to meet.

It's sad that a lot of wrestlers will get inducted via Legacy rather than having their own induction. So many deserved their own time - Bruiser Brody, Ray Stevens, Gary Hart, Wahoo McDaniel - but because some snot-nosed, bed wetter didn't see them on TV last week, they're "irrelevant" and just get a brief 10 second mention.
