@@mtorngren15 Mick lost his ear in a match against Vader but Vader didn't actually tear Mick's ear off or anything. Earlier in the night a high flyer wrestler complained that the ropes were too slack so the ring crew tightened the ropes beyond capacity. Mick didn't know anything about this so that when he did his "hang man" spot where he gets his thrown out the ring and gets his head caught between the top and middle ropes thus hanging him by his neck, he couldn't get out of it. The ropes were like a vice on his neck and he was in serious trouble. To make matters worse, immediately after tossing Mick over the ropes into the "hang man" Vader and the ref turned their backs to Mick. Vader was playing to the crowd and the ref was admonishing Vader. When they turned around and realized that Mick was in trouble they tried to get him out of it. The ref pulled on the ropes trying to create space while Vader pummeled Mick on top of the head trying to force Mick's head through the vice like ropes. Between the three of them they managed to free Mick but in the process Mick's ear was literally pushed off his head, as Mick himself put it.

At that point Warrior had been effectively out of wrestling for over three years. During that time no other promotion had been willing to meet his unrealistic demands. You would have to figure that he wasn't going to be around too long due to his track record and he wasn't the promotor's son or anything like that. So why job to him? He'll be out of the public spotlight within a few months while Vader wouldn't be. Worst case scenario is that Vader forces the company to pick him or Warrior, they pick Warrior and he goes back to Japan for a bit while the Warrior-WWF relationship inevitably self-destructs. Warrior had no friends in the business. You weren't going to run into some booker along the way who was best buddies with the Warrior. After 1992 he's probably the safest "name" in wrestling to burn your bridge with.

Other matches on the card were Smoking Gunns vs the Godwins, Shawn Michaels vs Davey Boy Smith, and Undertaker vs Mankind. My memory is that the tag match between the Gunns and Godwins was the 1st match after the intermission. And, there was a LONG delay between the Godwins and the ref coming to the ring and the Gunns coming out. The Godwins had to just stand around in their corner waiting and the ref (Hebner?) was waving to kids at ringside to pass the time.

Took away the Big Fang persona. Took awaybhis entrance and dance thing. Adding to that immediately jobbimg out to the Warrior.... ridiculous. JR expected Vader to just destroy his own character

That’s right! Basically Ernie agreed to do the job as long as his jobs weren’t recorded. But Ernie, one night saw the red light and knew he was being recorded. Shortly after him and Dutch hauled ass and flew on a small plane. Dutch and Ernie parted ways after smoking a blunt and drinking. Gotta party somehow Both brisco brothers track Ladd down to jump him, Ernie grabs the tire iron and beats them up so bad he even dumped them at the hospital. Dutch describes this story in much better detail!

The original plan was for Vader to win the belt from Michaels at Survivor Series and drop it back to him at the Rumble, but Vader got hurt and Michaels didn’t want to work with him again after Summerslam. They even called the Dec In Your House “It’s Time”. Sid was just someone Michaels felt comfortable working with, but the plan was never to put the belt on Warrior. As you said, that would have been an absolute shit show.
