The “trial of Ian Rotten” on Grapple vision is the greatest IWA cliff notes ever needed. Some guy (on an ancient podcast) had Ian on then had every one he ever did wrong call in lol. It’s so bad it’s great. The host is an Indy goof, the callers are Indy goofs, it’s just amazing. The “Joe Bailey” portion is the main reason for listening. That’s the father of the guy Ian paid in pills for working death match shows. The guy later died of concussion trauma. Apparently his dad let him do hardcore staple gun matches when he was a teenager cause his dads a big mark.

Since I was 10!!” And when Joe Bailey said “yeah I did let my son and his friends do barb wire staple gun matches when he was a teenager, it was so I could supervise!!” Those were the only times Ian actually was able to defend himself and the other person look sort of bad. I’ve listened to it a few times. I don’t know why he stuck around to take that abuse but it made for an eye opening lesson on his weirdness

Corny and Bobby Heenan managed against each other in ROH the night of Joe vs. Punk 3. Which incidentally I was always curious what Jim thought of the Joe/Punk stuff.
Honestly I think that is a likely move for him once he's done in the ring. He's got the gift of gab, and it's a great way to keep the career going after the body doesn't want to put up with the bumps anymore.

I'm going to say it was probably Main Event Spectacles November 1st 2003 at the Rex Plex in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Cornette managed The Briscoes to their first ROH Tag Title win and Punk was in a 4 Corner Survival with Steve Corino, Samoa Joe & Christopher Daniels.

Jim is basically the last bastion of booking super talent. Cena, Rock, Brock, Mick Foley, Austin, ROH...These are all people that owe Jim a huge deal of thanks for not burying them.
Yeah there's actually a shoot interview with Punk from 2003 on youtube where he mentions that he just met Jim 2-3 weeks ago and that he was "awesome" to him and that he was "totally nice" to him.
Hes not face. He was playing mind games on Punk. It got into his head. This is gonna affect Punk if Punks trying to deliver the final blow and he's gonna hesitate.
i'm one of those people who assumed that Danny Davis was the same as "Dangerous" Danny Davis. I always had a tiny doubt in the back of my mind, because Dangerous was so terrible in the ring as a worker, I thought "how is this the same guy who is supposed to know so much about wrestling when his work in the ring is the sh*ts"
Newer Pro Wrestling Fans have to understand and I believe some of them do Punk wasn't fantastic when he started in terms of his work in ring work, even he would say that, I remember watching an IWA DV Tape of Punk and I didn't get it at first, but I could see his promo skills were good even then. It's kinda like Steve Austin, anyone could see his work in the ring, he was a great Wrestler, but The Rattlesnake Mega Star he became, no one would have called that.
Different era. Comparing is as dumb as the kayfabe unaware marks who made Austin, Rock and Hogan such big stars. I'd pick any CM Punk match over repetitive catch phrases and trademark moves for the easily amused. At least I won't be blamed for WrestleManias depending on crippled senior citizens and b-celebs burying an entire roster.
It is what it is. Punk right now is one of the biggest stars in wrestling, and I'm sure AEW are thrilled to have him. He definitely makes the show better, that's for sure.

Kinda crazy how the 2 "veteran wrestlers/locker room leaders" that were promoted in the OVW Netflix series were Cash-Flo and that Hailey J girl's mom Amazing Maria and both came and did most of their stuff early on in IWA MS..

I used to go to the IWA matches in early 2000s back when it was in Scott county Indiana, punk was a wrestler there and looked very younger then he does now he couldn't have been but 20 years old maybe 24
Best thing Punk ever did was trick an entire audience into believing Vince gave an angry wrestler a live mic and said “say whatever you want pal” for two segments on RAW. I guess people just want to believe that was a rebellious act that wasn’t scripted or approved.

Then I was 100% convinced when I saw him in ROH. The feud he had with Raven solidified it to me to the point that I thought he could actually be someone in the big times rather than just a great indie guy with some potential. Hopefully the way I explained that makes sense.
i don't know where his feud with mjf is going, if mjf's bully story is exposed as a lie then punk can destroy him without mercy, but if the bullying and discrimination is true then punk (the company's top babyface) just assaulted a survivor of bigotry and bullying, it makes the company look like they enjoy beating on victims
On Wrestletalk they had a fan or editor find an old message to Punk from MJF talking about how he was about to go to college on a football scholarship, but basically Punk made him realize he wanted to do something different and decided he was going to chase his dream to wrestle. Didn't talk about the bullying, but with the world how it is I wouldn't doubt it's a real story. Love how the dynamic has totally been turned on it's head.

Chris Hero never made OVW as far as i know but WWE did eventually get him as an underneath/midcard guy aka Kassius Ohno. horrible fuckin name imo. Further, Hero coulda been an upper card guy for WWE.

Yeah…I’m gonna be that guy. I’m a longtime wrestling fan from New York. Referee Danny Davis is still the more important of the two. Behind the scenes wrestling stories are dope, we all love insider knowledge, and all respect due to the guys who actually made the shows we love, but nobody cares about the show runners, we care about the stars-even bit players like Disco are inherently more interesting. Cornette, Bischoff, yes, these guys were also promoters or bookers et al, but we care who THEY are today bc they were onscreen, not because they made the Business. Plus the idea that a wrestler/referee from the 80s might also or later be a wrestling promoter is not less strange than two guys with the same (admittedly generic) name in the same business at the same time. It’s not impossible but why would Jim assume we fans knew wtf was going on in the business side of SMW? Maybe it’s just me…

The Nightmares were a territory team at the same tome I was first getting into wrestling (watching the build to WM3 with my uncle got me hooked), just as Vince was going national. And nobody really cares who the CFO of Tamla was when Motown was cranking out hits. (Tamla was Stevie’s subsidiary label under the Motown umbrella). Even if they made buckets of money for the company…not in the way fans care about
@@thekendemetrishow yeah. Growing up on the east coast, I prob didn't see Nightmare Danny Davis until maybe 1988 or 1989 when I got to see Memphis. But I know now how great they were as a tag team and he was as a single and even his time as part of Jerry Lawlers Army before that.
Yea, CM Punk could have been such a bigger star nowadays doing scooter races, dance offs and spelling bees, maybe even jobbing to a 60-year-old criplled Austin or a 70-year-old senile Vince McMahon. Such a waste.
I don't think they're trying to claim he's the best wrestler to ever live, but the point Jim has been making for some time now is that Punk's segments make sense in the midst of the chaos that surrounds it, and for that reason he likes Punk. Add in that he's a great talker and it's consistently one of the best things on the show.
@@mirage5566 I don't disagree with that at all. It's just when you listen to some of their reviews themselves their hyperbole about all things Punk can be a bit over the top. Particularly Brian....Jim will highly praise something with Punk....Brian will be the first to start comparing it to some of the greatest matches in history, etc.
Punk is the one wrestler I disagree on with Corny the most. He's never made anyone, he's super douchebag nerdy and everyone knows if it was a real fight Aubrey would choke him out. MJF needs a Bret or an Angle. Not nerdy fanpic reveals.
I just got screamed at by a Punk fan for pointing out the “pipe bomb” was a scripted Vince approved angle that somehow fooled a million Punk fans lol. They really feel like he stole a mic then went out on Raw for two segments and nobody stopped him. That’s scary that anyone could believe that.

I mean he barely had a chance to make anybody. He got turned into the 1B to Cena's 1A in mid-2011 and was gone at the start of 2014 and in those short years he was mostly working with established guys. I think Del Rio, Ryback and Bryan Danielson were the only ''newer'' talent he got to major PPV matches with and out of those three only Bryan would have been worth giving the rub to.

I give them credit, with Punk it made people say “the rest of its fake but that was real!!” But in reality Vince hasn’t let anyone take a live mic out on live tv and say anything they wanted since the attitude era and even then they’d have cut the mic if things got too hairy. People bought into it. I lost respect for Punk when he did Colt Cabana’s podcast then turned around and sued him when he got in trouble for saying the stuff he said……which proves again that WWE isn’t letting anybody go trash them unless they approve of the trashing. I might be wrong, Colt might’ve been the one that messed up that friendship, but on that podcast Punk said clearly 3-4 times how bad he hated fans approaching him for pictures and autographs which came across as lame. He always seemed to have a disdain for fans until he made his big return and claimed he’d loved them this whole time.
