Hogan had the notoriety, the star power, the history and the presence to sell this type of seemingly random swerve to the audience. No one in MJF's group got any of that.

But was the nwa putting people to sing the heels song or cheer for them? At least then was spontaneous.

No one saw it coming, but it made sense. Hogan, who made his name in the then WWF, joining two others who's gimmick was that they were "outsiders", invaders from the very same company. There was logic in the swerve. This swerve makes no sense. MJF has only interacted with Spears, and it wasn't like they were the best of friends. Nothing ties him to FTR. It was a swerve for the sake of it. For how much we hate on Russo for the nonsensical booking and creative, all of this reminds me of Russo and it's crazy that no one wants to point it out.

It seemed like it but I feel like his character was like that is too obvious but it would have been one of the double double cross to have his new faction whoop the guys who did his bidding....Nagasaki type heat would really put him over as greatest heel of this generation

That makes sense. I liked this angle apart from the lights going out being daft (I can see Jim's point about Scorpio Sky's heel turn too; I think that should have been built up a bit, especially since he's still part of SCU to my knowledge).

If he sees no value in them, what's the point of taking them down at all? Inner Circle is a midcard faction now, they haven't been much of a factor since at least last May. Sammy was always more of a threat simply because he didn't trust MJF, he wasn't presented as inherently a threat to make the faction more powerful though (losing his feud to Matt Hardy decisively and not doing much else). MJF's not going to advance from this, in kayfabe or in reality. Let's face it, this is something for MJF and Jericho to do to keep them away from title angles.

These are all guys who are actually serious wrestlers vs comedy acts so couldn't that be a good enough reason to start a faction?

I know right. You'd think he would love this new group. MJF, FTR, and Tully all together? It's an 80's wrestling group. As for his complaints.. There are many reasons MJF would have his group waiting in the wings. He might have been planning to have one large group, he might have expected the Inner Circle to turn on him or he might have expected part of Inner Circle to side with him and others to side with Jericho. He had his guys there in case things went side ways.... which they did. Jericho wants everyone singing his entrance song. It has become part of his entrance. He was pissed when people were singing the chorus once instead of twice. Jericho is in that legend category at this point so he was never going to be a hated heel. People don't like to boo legends. Plus everyone knows the inner workings of wrestling now. Fans can sing along with Jericho's song, but still boo him when he cheats. People play along, but they don't actually hate heels anymore. The days of people in the crowd wanting to jump a heel in the parking lot or stab them on their way to the ring are long gone and aren't coming back. I'm only a few minutes into the video, but I'm sure they're going to mock Jericho's table bump. Of course AEW is going to have some sort of padding under the tables. They just had Matt Hardy crack his head off the concrete doing a double table fall. They weren't going to risk that again. Jericho is also over 50. He'd be dead if they did it without a crash pad. They shouldn't have shown the replay though, that was stupid. It was hard to notice the crash pad when we saw it live. Then they replayed it from the ground level and it was very obvious. I think they even replayed it again after that. Don't do that shit. The illusion mostly worked when we only got to see it once. The more times you show it, the more of the trick you give away. AEW's production team does need to get a lot better a lot faster. That's a valid complaint.

Hell, I begged AEW to listen to him. Now it's just a hate fest. Tony Khan could invent a time machine, go grab Arn and Tully from 1987 and put them in a match with FTR and make it a 2 hour broad way so it's the only match on the show and Jim would tear it apart because it's in an AEW ring and they used Tony Khan's time machine. I'm a big fan of AEW, but I have a bunch of criticisms of their product. I critique it because I want to see them succeed and grow.

Jim wants 70s and 80s style of wrestling on TV and as much as that era was great, is not coming back and it would not draw an audience today. Jim rants are not criticisms anymore, they are full on sh*tting on the product because that's what most of his audience comes to see. The gimmick has consumed the guy and at this point is as much of a performance as the rest of wrestling.

The swerve itself was OK, the crash pad spot pissed me off though. It looked (and sounded) so fake,. You can even see the damn thing FFS. They never even made any effort to cover the thing properly. At the very least they could have used "canned noise" to at least make it SOUND like he was actually going through a "table" SMH

You saw the core of the faction created last week. The Inner Circle was the strongest faction at the time so he weakened them from within while setting the table for a surprise takeover setting up a major feud. What's really the problem? If it went the way you suggested then it takes away the surprise. If the segment ended with them simply destroying MJF then that's not as exciting, imo. And the Inner Circle getting attacked every week would simply lead to speculation about who is responsible and set the table for people to be let down if the people they want to be behind it aren't. Example, people being let down that Christian was the Hall of Fame potential surprise signing, even though those same people were excited to see him at the Royal Rumble like a month ago lol

With Andrade being just the latest who can't opt out of his contract. So AEW have a limited pool to buy talent, but they also want more eyes on the product which is why they bring in guys like Christian, Sting, Show, etc.

Expect for that powerbomb. Killed it for me. Like Cmon. Would have came off better if they left him bloody in the middle of the ring. The last part of that segment was comical. Whoever called that spot should get their head checked. Hopefully this is a legit heel group and not just a group involved in silly segments.

For what AEW has been doing since the lockdown, this is definitely good. This atleast provides something for the show to work it but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "beyond good" by any means though.

(which as goofy and silly as it was, was still entertaining as hell). since the orange program and jericho heat outside of aew. jimmy hasn’t had anything good to say about jericho. he loved the cody angle, thought he carried moxley in that angle. but jericho has different political opinions (as millionaires tend to do, and he’s not some right wing nut he just supported someone corny hated (i also hated trump and the far right )but unless someone’s a complete far right or left idc about your political opinion. he’s a wrestler, an entertainer. the covid shit was stupid and i guarantee he regrets it. but corny has a history on turning on long time friends or colleagues (meltzer, pritchard, heyman etc) but jericho ? why cause he’s part of the 48% who voted differently than em which makes em evil or cause he’s trying something new. jericho’s made it clear if he was in wwe he’d be just another old name. here he’s still special. in 2017 he and Owens had the longest, most entertaining storyline and some of the best work of his career for 8-9+ months and they were the second match at mania. yes he’s paid handsomely in aew but come on. not everything is always gonna be a hit but when jericho hits he hits about as strong (story and creatively) as anyone working currently.

He literally praised Miz's promo earlier in the episode, but sure, he "blindly hates everything." A turn like this needs time. This is supposedly the biggest heel faction in the company, and they're faces now because another heel faction beat them up? Especially after the year Jericho has had? Good luck getting sympathy on them.

I love AEW, but you can't deny that Cornette is right about this. It didn't really make any sense whatsoever, and the part where Chris Jericho gets thrown off the stage was terrible. With the right camera angle it could have looked fine, but they got way too close. I still enjoyed the whole segment, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't have been done better.

MJF, who usually doesn't like ANYBODY, was super chummy with Spears during the shows at the beginning of the pandemic, so they have actually interacted before, and AEW made sure to show that on camera pretty often.
