WCW should’ve just booked an injury angle after Goldberg won the title. The NWO injure Goldberg and he vacates the title. Hogan gets it back while Goldberg trains off-air for six months to a year. Goldberg returns and regains the title. Then build a program between a properly trained Goldberg against Bret Hart. The finish is that Bret Hart ends Goldberg’s streak.

Someone should ask Nash to explain the contradiction of his buddy Hogan getting to run with the belt (whether face or heel), but “the money” is always in “the chase”. (And before someone says “it was different in the 80s”, I’ll say yeah, in the early 2000s when Hogan got another run with the WWF title as a face, it was a different decade than the 80s. So apparently, “it’s all about the face chasing the heel” unless it’s Hogan cuz he gets a pass on this topic from Nash and some others.

At the time when they aired Goldberg vs Hogan on Nitro for free, they were so desperate to get one over in the ratings against Raw. It just goes to show that WCW didn't have any structure or long-term planning, that it was just one big mess. Look at Bret Hart. I remember following both companies at the time and thinking how insignificant Bret Hart felt like during his tenure there. He became a nameless mid-carder.
@MarvinT0606

That was always the problem with WCW. They could never snap-out of their mania to fight the WWF and followed them step by step BUT ignoring their own strengths as a promotion. They took in WWF talent while letting many of their homegrown guys languish. They won 83 weeks in ratings but lost the promotion war. Compare that to ECW who didn't care too much about who they were competing with and refined their brand to an artform.

The thing that bothers me to this day about the Goldberg/Hogan match they gave away for free on Nitro instead of doing on a PPV is that they could have done both. You do the Goldberg/Hogan match on Nitro still, but you do it as an exhibition match, keep it short, and when it looks like Goldberg is about to hit his finish, the rest of the NWO jump in to attack Goldberg like a heel stable is supposed to. That leads to the bell ringing, Goldberg getting DQ win, and when it looks like the NWO is starting to beat him down, he goes berserk and cleans house spearing everybody while Hogan is making a break for the ramp. And before Hogan can get away, whoever the face authority figure is at the time (I can't remember atm) comes out, stops Hogan, and announces Hogan will be facing Goldberg in the main event of the next WCW ppv for the title and not only will it be a no DQ match but the NWO will be barred from ringside. And the episode goes off the air with Hogan turning back to the ring, the camera cutting to Goldberg standing in the middle of the wreckage if the NWO leaning over the ropes to point at Hogan and yelling, "YOU'RE NEXT!" Then you basically do the Nitro match we ended up getting in real life at the ppv. And that's how you blow off the nwo angle after botching the job at starcade with sting (because you still have to make up for that).

I feel like Bret has just had the worst luck in life, but he keeps overcoming adversity, after adversity. He's a real champion.

The chase is a tried and true method for story investment. Also, the dangers of being hunted and the superhero conquering "monsters" is pretty fun to watch, too.

You know its a Bischoff PR win when Hogan isn’t blamed in the show either

6:30 Jim is forgetting that Thunder was a taped show and nitro was live... I remember Kevin Nash talking about this situation, you know how hard it is to tape a show prior to the live show and still have continuity for the live show that might change because it's live?!

Fingerpoke of Doom killing wcw is the biggest falsehood ever. The episode after fod still drew a 5.0 rating, a bigger rating than any periods in peak wcw 97-98. In Bischoff last nitro in Sept 99, before he was sacked, he was still drawing 4.1 rating against wwf 4.4. When Wwf was losing they were drawing 1.8 with Brett hart and friends but nobody talks about that. The big difference is Wwf has the support of USA network unlike wcw's AOL network and executives.

So looking at the artist rendering, I didn't realize one of the people who were responsible for the demise of WCW was the love child of Bret Hart and Marty Jannetty
