I was in Lidl a couple of months ago waiting at the checkout. I front of me was a lively and spry old gentleman. He was a bit deaf but he was joking with the staff and still had an eye for the ladies. His son told me he was a D Day veteran and was going to Normandy today. I thanked the old fellow for what he had done, and he was proud to show me a medal. Not a wartime one, but a British Legion one. It was for selling the most poppies on the Isle of Wight. Meanwhile the miserable git behind was tutting at the delay. I don't know why, but it took me such a long time to pack my shopping on that day. And today, someone moaning that their Wightlink ferry would be delayed due to the sloshway being closed on Armed Forces Day for a Red Arrows display. We all know Wightlink are useless, but on this occasion a valid excuse. I know you come to the island Jim, do call in at The Veteran in Ryde, they support veterans. Only this week they housed a veteran and his family who had been made homeless. A good place to have a pint, supporting a good cause. I felt absolutely privileged to have met a Normandy veteran.
Awwww ! Thanks for sharing ! We had soldier neighbour thinking of leaving forces .... fed up of being sent to "goat track at a5se end of nowhere to sort out hateful primitives". My parents suffered loss of relatives in war, granny a widow with 5 kids on rations - make do and mend - many skills getting lost now like sewing a new coat from an old one - reknitting jumpers and making meagre amounts of food feed a family ..... dad national service RAF. Greetings from Devon !!
How many of those veterans look at the country now and think why did i bother ...they fought to save our way of life only to see it thown away and unrecognisibley dilluted by uncontrolled imigration its a national disgrace ...keep up the fight jim
How will UK Reform manage the economy of Britain? Egregiously is my guess!!! It's not all about stopping the boats you know...they have to govern the entire country! To say that they would be out of their depths is a gross understatement!!! So many people vote for shallow reasons. Farage will put an end to illegal migration ... and nodoubt destroy the United Kingdom in the process because of poor fiscal management. He's a showman and a Euro-Sceptic which help him in the polls, but I wouldn't want the Red Budget briefcase in his hands!!!!!
I knew about WW 1 and 2 from being taught in school as I was born in 1950. I later learned about the Korean War. What totally woke me up to War was the Vietnam War. I was 17 and at that age broke my heart to see all the young men being killed. The world has never been at peace in my 74 years.
I agree you on nhs. I got uterine fibroids but I went to the nhs and they were useless. Private health insurance only pay for new diagnosis. They not pay for existing conditions. So going private insurance is a waste of money in my opinion.
Came here to say this. Usually have my volume on 7 or 8 but recently on Jim's show I have to turn it up to 11 or 12 which still isn't enough... It was fine until quite recently
I worked in a care home with a few youngsters working there, one of the young ladies when i asked her if she knew who Churchill was she said course i do its the dog off the advert! And she'd just become a mum!!!
Hi Jim I'm from Bupa the truth is we want your money but we don't want to give it back. We like to give you this very poor excuse hoping you will accept it. Please leave us alone so we can have as much money in our bank I need a new bentley and this massive yacht
I have found the coverage of the ceromonies very moving. I have twin 26 yr olds they know about d day and Churchill. One of them recently went on a hike near Lady bower Res in Derbyshire and knew before then that is where they practiced the bouncing bomb dambusters attack. My daughters Partner who is an irish citizen , they are living in France at mo, went with his brother to Normandy earlier this year to see where it all happened. So all is not lost x
my grandad lied about his age in 1939,he said he was 18,he joined the army, got sent off and was scared witless as he was only 16,he served in Palestine as a despatch rider for some years then was sent the Belgium at the end,he stayed in until 1953, i only found out a couple of years back he suffered badly from ptsd,he was the most gentle man i have ever met , bless him and respect to his generation,r.i.p henry alfred creasy,226 field squad brock baracks rdg,
I had a prostate tumour successfully treated, my atrial fibrillation is currently well under control. No significant waiting involved, all on the NHS. Was treated by a North African consultant and his Chinese registrar, had South Asian and, African nurses and radiographers, all of whom were competent, caring and charrming as were their British colleagues, what an incredible institution the NHS is. World Class
The RNLI do jot discriminate or have a choice on whom they rescue. They are all voluntary, and put themselves at risk to save others who ever they are. Now I'm not allowed to say what I really want to say, because for fear of conflicting or bringing the charity into disrepute. But next time, your at the beach, or by the Thames in London, and you were in trouble in that water, seeing that orange boat, come to get you might just save your life one day.
A friends Father was a member of BUPA for many years never had any medical problems but when he needed them fair enough they were true to their word could not wish for such a quicker response...but when the policy was up for renewal sorry high risk cannot give you cover for anything ,bye bye
You never find out how good your insurance company is until you need them. This applies to health, home, car, pet and so on. When you require them they will do their upmost not to pay out.
BUPA. Don’t make me laugh. I was employed by Network Rail up until my retirement. For a few years leading up to my retirement, NWR saw it fit to use BUPA for the periodic medicals that staff members had to attend. The last experience I had of this was carried out by an ethnic nurse who spoke very little English and I had to stop the examination after being subjected to severe pain during an ear examination. My conclusion, DO NOT waste your money
Well said Jim. My father was in bomber command. Apparently today Freddie Mercury is much more famous than Winston Churchill. David Starkey said we are electing a government with the biggest majority for one hundred years that nobody wants. Saw four loitering by the railway line near Wareham, obviously just got out of a lorry from Poole.
Sorry Jim Davidson can't agree with you regarding the NHS, saw Doc, two weeks later biopsy, 2.5 weeks to radiotherapy/chemo. A Year later cancer was back, surgery after 3 weeks, another 2 years of ongoing care, consultant every 3 months, specialist nurses as necessary, ( often twice a month) absolutely fantastic care which must have cost a fortune . I love our NHS
Pre existing conditions are often excluded with private medical insurance. It is up to your Dr. to arrange the billing explanation to make sure you are covered for your present condition.
I need open an open heart operation. 4 things wrong to repair. Apparently its urgent, I am now on 8 tablets a day to keep my heart going.....Question.......How can I be URGENT if Im on a 6 months waiting list????? Mind boggles...so...lets hope I stay alive for it shall we? Coventry University hospital get rid of waiting lists!
I had BUPA health insurance through work and they were a nightmare. I had to get their permission for any subsequent treatment after an operation and having to calculate how near to my limit the insurance covered. My employer changed to Aviva who were much better and I had much less hassle with them
I have been through this with my travel insurance and I proved them wrong so they had to pay up. When you take out any type of insurance you only have to declare any medical problems that have been diagnosed by your Doctor. End of story. Beware ! Always declare ALL of your DIAGNOSED medical problems when you take out insurance. When it comes to them making a payment they will do all they can to not pay. A useful tip that I have learned from experience is. Before you go on holiday ask your surgery for a print out of your last 2 years of your medical records. When it happens you will know why.
What’s the point of having private medical insurance if they constantly avoid coughing up when it’s needed? It’s simply disgusting! This is why we need the NHS. If it was ever got rid of or privatised fully everyone’s insurance would need to pay up without question.
I live in the Philippines because my pension (state) goes a lot further and the warmth is better for me Trouble is once you reach 60 you can’t get health insurance here so hope I never get sick as I am 71 so would become a liability the same as medical insurance in uk companies are happy to take your money but become sick your a liability found a expat insurance but it’s 2023 US dollars that’s ok 150 pounds a month but can’t pay monthly so I need to carry on looking what ever anyone thinks about the n h s you will always be given help to get better in other countries no money no dr no life in uk let’s be happy with the n h s that do a great job they looked after my dad well into his 90s
I wish I could get on Ustreme but I have tried 4 times, sent 2 emails, and even phoned this week ( no call back yet ) put in my CC details all to no avail, I hope you read this Jim. I really look forward to all your shows on social media. I don't see live shows as I'm a pensioner now, and it costs a little more. all the best. GZ.
Hi Graham. Many thanks for your support. A member of the team emailed you on Monday and has sent another email today. Check your junk emails, just in case they have gone in there. There's members of the team in the office if you are still having difficulty. Look forward to having you on board!
Love your comments and opinions. I fully agree with your sentiment but unfortunately our younger generation have lots of attitude but no gratitude. Sorry I can’t spare the £4.79 subscribers fee on my monthly budget but did try to get tickets for your show in Clacton on Sea for my 75 birthday but wasn’t successful sadly. Looks like Nigel’s trying to sneak in the back door to be our next MP. Stay safe and keep well and remember please if your peeing several times a night have a prostate test immediately before it’s too late as I know to my stupidity and ignorance. Take care 🙏😩👆
putting imigrants in nice hotels my wife and i both work and my wife works very hard and we cant afford 2 new tyres on our mini we cant even afford 2 part worns i dispare
my dad was a MP police, my uncle was in Burma and my other uncle was in Normandy, on the landing crafts. he landed on the beach, some of his group got killed and my uncle got machine gunned in the legs and they put him on the same landing craft he came in on.
Can you imagine the generation today having to go to war like our mums dads and grandparents 😂😂 They can’t wipe the own derrière let alone look after themselves. Immigrants not to worry, you’ll be looked after before us, well not if I had anything to do with it but there we go.
Someone on another site thought that this was the same as Dunkirk⁉️ DOH. You say about Passports, I hear today’s demonstration parachutists had to show their’s to the relevant authorities on the relevant show-ground in France. Isn’t it peculiar as to how we feel when we see a Spitfire in flight. It just really tears at the heart.
YES and that waste of space Sunak coudlnt even attend the remembrance . All servicemen and women should show there disgust and vote against these useless Tories .
Hey Jim....what do you think about the British paratroopers getting their passport checked after parachuting into France to celebrate D day.... unbelievable
