I know Jim is a comedian and I always enjoy his commentary. As a serious issue however, 35 hour work weeks / three day weekends ought to be the norm. Not surprisingly, companies that try four day work weeks found their employees reported being less stressed and better able to adopt healthier lifestyle patterns… both of which help make a positive contribution to the company’s “bottom line.”

Back when I was an hourly employee, labor day and any other double time holiday pay was the time to make real money!

In support, the Minimum Wage, per U.S. Senate research some 37years ago, should have been $15/hour THEN. It was $3.35 at the time, more than 75% below what it should have been to meet barest costs of living for full-time employees. Background: The U.S. Senate Labor Ctte. in the late ‘80’s sought to determine what the minimum wage should be if it had kept up with the Cost of Living (also tracked historically). The Cost of Living continued to rise over decades yet the Minimum Wage stayed almost flat. Which causes maladies of all kinds: Loss of health, safety, security, education, productivity and more…, throughout the U.S. economy, compared to the strengths of a nation with a decently paid workforce. The answer is not higher consumer prices to pay for higher wages. That removes any benefits of higher wages. We must engage the answer people ignore: Business owners need to take less income as needed to pay their workers living wages. See the founding model of “Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream”. Paying workers creates vigorous growth for everyone, while attracting loyal consumers, employees and creating mutual community support!

Yup, the original memorial day was 5/30, it changed to accommodate a 3 day weekend. Lol😊

What three day weekend? I worked all three days, and. On labor day.

Anyone working in retail, knows they rarely get to enjoy any time off, ever. And those jobs rarely pay over-time,...complain and you will be replaced or fired. Worse yet, you might get to leave an hour early,.....which doesn't help anyone.

So I get that this is supposed to be a lighthearted segment, but this really wasn’t funny for me. As someone who gets 12 vacation days a year along with federal holidays off, extended weekends are a blessing. Plus, I also remember the decade I sent in retail where these holidays gave me time and a half. Americans view of work needs to change. People are struggling to get by with two full-time incomes and no kids. This isn’t sustainable.

Many jobs found that four days were sufficient or do 10 hrs a day. You could actually sleep in or have a staycation, you're not obligated to travel. It's either a three day weekend or a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday off, that is nice, but in a row is better.

Not particularly funny if you have been in a position where this is one of the only days you have off. This should have been in support of labor, the four day week, and increasing wages. Unfortunately, it just comes off as incredibly out of touch with the realities of the world. I get it is supposed to be sarcastic, but there are just too many people in power who actually think this way for it to be lighthearted.

The solution is to reduce workdays into four times a week and move all holidays to the weekends. 😊

for me in high school and college, as a lifeguard--swimming instructor, Labor Day weekend was the closing of swim season/the pool

Why do people who have never worked a day in their life. Celebrate Labor Day ?

My complaints: why dont you have universal healthcare, free lunch in schools, a regulated market, reasonable wages where one job is the only job you need. All the best from 🇸🇪

All these holidays need to be reduced u til we pay down our debts. Yet they just added a second black holiday. Down the tubes we go, thanks to congress.

Make 3 day weekends the NORM and we’ll all easily get used to it…! It’s better than only 2 days…!!!

Don’t have kids!! Work hard, SAVE and INVEST, pay off your primary home and rental place……and retire around 50!! 🤷🏼‍♂️😁😎. I travel Wednesday to Wednesday now, and NEVER get traffic on the roads, or in airports! …….and I NEVER have people over to my home…..EVER! I’ll meet them for coffee, and lunch, then bye bye!
