Guy Kibbee was a great character actor!! This movie is great fun!! Guy Kibbee was always great in Mr. Deeds Goes To Washington, starring Jimmy Stewart. Mr. Kibbee was probably in over 100 movies!

These old movies are so wonderful! The touch of comedy is wonderful too. . One of the things I love is to see is the hats that the women wear and the cars that everyone drives! I think Billie Burke would’ve made a great actress for the part of the old lady. (Can’t think of her name in the movie)

Tom Brown was the "original" Rob Lowe! A really fun caper. $30,000 in 1937 is equivalent to $517,000 in 2017 or £400,000 - a lot to carry alone and hand over without ID being asked for or a signature when being handed over!

Excellent shape for an 85 year old film. Professionalism in every aspect, but cornball plot. It was well received by the public in its distribition - in those days, the studios put out 3-5 films each week, and employed more workers than present day Holly Wood does now. Excellent time filler, despite the predictability of it's plot. Thanks for making it available to us viewers.

I knew I was going to hate this about ten seconds in. It's one of those movies that exalts the virtues of rural small-town America, made at a time when most Americans lived in rural small towns. It's the kind of stuff that rural small-town Americans ate up with a spoon, since it reassured them that city folks weren't better than they were. It's also one of those movies where all the characters are human cartoons and nobody behaves remotely like a real human being. And what was the deal with Hanvey deliberately breaking the lady's 2000 year-old vase? Did he do that just to be a prick? Well, at least he was "powerful sorry" about it. Except he wasn't, since he clearly did it on purpose, which makes him a liar as well.

@graemesmith6721
@graemesmith6721 Год назад
@@viennapalace I have the Disney Channel, and most of their stuff is far better than this. Of course, Disney also tended to pander to rural America just like this film does (Song of the South and the Davy Crockett movies spring to mind), but that was a general trend in Hollywood well into the 1960s. Producers understood that most of America's population lived in small rural towns or on family farms, so they tailored their product to their audience, flattering rural hicks by telling them how great they were. No doubt those Hollywood city slickers had nothing but contempt for those rural hicks, but Hollywood is a business, and if you want your product to sell, you can't afford not to be cynical. It wasn't until the late 1960s, when rural populations were shrinking and urban and suburban populations were growing, that Hollywood began shifting away from movies and TV shows praising country folk, since that was no longer where the money was.

Seeing quite a bit of comments calling this "great". You folks need to raise your bar a bit. "Great" is usually associated with Gone With the Wind and such. This film is amusing,fun, & reasonably good. The two characters that are engaged are portrayed as no smarter than a sack of hammers. They couldn't cross the street without getting run over. This is not what great film making does, unless it's a 3 Stooges movie.

I agree that people are free and easy with the word :"great", They are infected with nostalgia and are relieved to see a film without vulgar and obscene words, largely unseen violence and a New York where anybody could walk through the front door of an apartment building without hindrance. Nonetheless, this is fun to watch and I'm thankful for the sharing.
