The fangirls are just salty because it happens with incompatible characters being forced into heterosexual relationships all the time, so we’ve started fighting back by doing the same, but with same-sex ships that have much more chemistry - whether that chemistry is canonically romantic or platonic in nature. Seriously, people see romance when two opposite-sex characters (or real people!) do normal stuff that people in healthy friendships do (whether it’s sharing food or holding hands or whatever). I was best friends with a gay dude in middle school, and I liked hugging him, and we got so many questions about whether we were dating. I seriously wanted to scream “oh my god, he’s obviously gay, folks!” I did not, because he wouldn’t have appreciated being outed like that, but the point remains that after going through four years of that crap, I reserve the right to turn the tables on the heteronormative fucks who insist that there is no way in hell that Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes could ever be anything more than bros.
