A playthrough of Hi Tech Expressions' 1990 license-based action game for the NES, Jim Henson's Muppet Adventure: Chaos at the Carnival.
Planning to turn her into his star attraction, Dr. Grump has kidnapped Ms. Piggy and is now holding her prisoner in his secret dungeon lair at the carnival. Kermit, Fozzy Bear, Gonzo, and Animal have gathered at the park, but before they can attempt to stage a rescue, they'll need to find four keys in order to gain access to The Grumpasaurus Cave. One key has been hidden in each of the carnival's four rides, giving each Muppet his own unique minigame to tackle:
Lost in Space Ride: Gonzo pilots a space craft through tight corridors while fending off attacks from UFOs and space dogs.
Amazing Ice Cream Maze: Fozzy evades carnival barkers as he collects prizes in a series of thirty single-screen mazes.
Crash Car Course: Animal's job is to survive a bumper car race on an oil-slicked track littered with bombs.
The Raging River Ride: Kermit has to steer around rocks, logs, and whirlpools as he shoots the rapids on his inner tube.
And once the keys have been found, Kermit can finally venture into The Grumpasaurus Cave, armed with naught but a feather and a severe case of hip dysplasia, in search of Miss Piggy.
Muppet Adventure is a game in the same vein as Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom ( • Adventures in the Magi... ) and Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland ( • Tiny Toon Adventures 2... ). Like those games, Muppet Adventure is a minigame collection held together by its amusement park theming and its licensed cast of popular characters.
Unlike those games, however, Muppet Adventure lacks any real appeal. The characters feel lifeless, the backdrops are super generic, and the drab color schemes give everything a muted, washed out look. The music is annoying and often feels inappropriate (why does the title theme sound like a funeral dirge?), and the loose controls in the driving and the space stages feel terrible.
I was a fan of the Muppets as a kid, and for a short while, I wanted to like this NES cart, but it's safe to say that never happened.

I remember renting this one as a kid. Even as a six year old with no standards I knew it was a turkey. Also I remember the copy I rented was defective or something because it would always lock up on the raft ride minigame.

Confession time! I had nes & snes & I went to a local store that had everything & I mean everything I needed. I would buy a game for 5 to 10 bus, play it & beat it before 7 days & take it back sayimg "my little brother didnt like this one" & get a 2 for one kinda deal per their policy. Its weird. I didnt even need to say that. I just wantes to go through their library & play all the games. Lots of gems for these older consoles. ❤ 😇

This game definitely makes some sort of "Music", and lights all the warning lights. But the only thing I'd want to do with this Muppet Blow is to burn it tonight.

OK, so here's what I can say... Kermit's game = Toobin' but without the fun Animal's game = Transport Hub segment of Total Recall Gonzo's game = Gradius + Asteroids Fozzie's game = Metal Gear without the stealth

I remember playing this game growing up in the NES era. Wasn't that good at it until I discovered the emulators to play it again and beat the game. Is it just me or do the log obstacles in the River Raft level look like floating turds?

If there was ever a prime example of how atrocious most licensed games are, this is it. This fits the bill just fine. Muppet Adventure is visually unappealing to look at, its deplorable audio presentation will make you wish you were deaf, and the gameplay lacks any semblance of fun or innovation. This isn't a game made with passion like a lot of Disney titles from its time, it is a cheap cash-in that doesn't do the Muppets IP any justice. Especially with shit like *_this:_* (35:27).

This game reminds me a lot of the Sesame Street NES games also from Hi Tech Expressions only with worse graphics and with an ending so you HAVE to beat the Minigames and they drag out for WAY too long (remember Game Grumps played and raged this it was funny IMO) not to mention much like the Sesame Street games they're NES ports of PC games at the time but in the case of The Muppets the PC original is WAY better (not to mention the Sesame Street NES games were by Rareware which helped the game in the graphics and presentation department) also would be nice if there were 8 bit rendition of The Muppet show theme or Rainbow Connection I guess they couldn't get the rights. P.S I raged at the Kermit level a lot since I would get stuck in the whirlpools.

I've beaten this game a long time ago as a rental. Thinking back on it, it was more frustrating to go through the mini games. I would rather play Magic Kingdom than this game if given another chance.

This was one of the worst games my household had on the nes, but when my mom asked me if there were any games not worth keeping, I hung on to this one. I sent Hydlide and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde away. I got to know Hydlide well enough that I came to the conclusion that I definitely didn't like it, but I don't think I ever sat down with Jekyll & Hyde for more than half an hour. I sometimes wish I could take another swing at the legendary unbeatable, the legendary unplayable.

Kermit Level: The only halfway decent level in the game. Animal Level: Awkward controls, repetitive, you can cheese most of the level by staying at the top. Gonzo Level: Abysmal controls, no I-frames, way too long, worst part of the game (and that's saying a lot). Fozzie Level: Goes on way, waaaay too long. Would perhaps be tolerable if it were 75% shorter. Final Level: Mini boss is glitchy and overly-difficult. Ironically the ensuing final boss is ridiculously easy.
