i would go ahead and say m. ward is my favorite current songwritter. He has been for at least the last 5 or 6 years. I listen to a lot of music, but i always come back to him. Jim is amazing too, but for me he doesnt hit the spot like matt. I'll resort to violence to defend him. So...bring it on haters!!! you wanna meet somewhere??!
Exactly. There are a lot of "honest" musicians out there. They just aren't as easily accessible as a Metallica or a Green Day. Matt is pretty well known though, so obviously a lot of people care for professional musicians rather than commercial ones that simply are selling a product. :)
Revolutionary gets thrown around a lot. I wouldn't say he's revolutionary. He definitely has distinguished himself though. Honestly, I don't think Hendrix was that impressve technically, but he rather changed how the guitar was played. M. Ward's fingerpicking isn't necessarily extravagant either, he just uses a different style. I've been playing a lot of M.Ward lately and its more that he gets a different tone with D6/9 tuning, which he adopted from Fahey. I just love the way it sounds.
the thing about M. Ward is that he uses the guitar to make the most beautiful music. he may not be as technically as impressive as, say, joe satriani, but the actual music being made is so much better than most virtuosos' boring shred-heavy instrumental records.
for Matt's guitar, it looks like the size of a D-45 but I can't make out the name on the head. I mean it could be customs, but then I highly doubt he would play something like that... Gibson? Gretsch? I really don't know.
M. Ward has no thumbs and two extra fingers, I have normal fingers and screwed up joints in my thumbs, somehow though I don't get that hateful jealousy and just want to hear more of the man. That version of Chinese Translation was moving for a moment.
You're kidding right? Have you ever played a live show? You don't want to sit there using harmonics to get the tuning just right. It's much faster to use a tuner. That's hardly something to criticize. I think it shows confidence that he can stop and move back into it. I guarantee by the end nobody was thinking about such a minor incident. The strings were probably new and weren't stretched out enough.
cop out.heaps of guitar players tune by ear live, not to mention hes playing in an environment where it would be quick and easy to tune by ear, but whatever - you think hes some revolutionary guitar wizard so you've obviously got no idea. also he doesnt kill the signal - and furthermore no self-respecting guitar player (including myself) would kill the signal and tune their guitar blind relying on a machine. and to provide an example for all of these points - ladies and gentlemen Mr Jimi Hendrix
