I met with Mr Kelly , US karate champion and he told me the same story of the Bob Wall , Bruce bottle incident. Great guy loved the opportunity to meet Jim and autographs
Yeah John Saxon was suppose to die in that movie but his agent made them switch the roles. They tried to make John cool which he was but William and Bruce was always the coolest.
Wow - to imagine they may have starred together in another movie. Jim seems genuinely a lovely guy. I could see he was holding back his tears when he said “and you know what happened next” (Bruce’s death).
Yah it's crazy saying he didn't have good lines. As it is Kelly himself saying he didn't get to show his stuff in Enter (though admittedly, it is a shame he didn't have the time for more takes on some shots). His martial arts scenes in it are great, well shot and well edited, and his acting is a massive part of the film's success. For those saying it's sad he dies in it, yes, definitely, but the shock of that is something that again contributes to it being the greatest martial arts movie of all time. When he fights Han, you still are rooting for him and hoping he gets out of there. Even if you've seen it 100 times.
I understand Saxons beef being a senior actor and all wanting top billing him for his character not to get killed however I also know Hollywood and at the time they weren’t prepared for a black man and a Chinese man to be the heroes in a feature film. That would come years later with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker
That is something a typical white guy would say! The person who stated what they said is a fact! Hollywood was very racist back then, period It should have been Jim in the end!!@jasonhearn5818
I had the pleasure of meeing and chatting with Jim Kelly (+John saxon and Bob baker) at a Bruce Lee convention many years ago. He was a lovely guy and had lots of time to chat!
Hmm Humbleness.in his Voice And the Gentleman.Behavor And the Respect he shows his fellow Martial Artist.Displays a True Champion Worthy of Honor RIP 🙏 Jim Kelly 🤜🤛
That was really good. Keep up the great job keep going you will win matter fact you are winning. Bring more awareness of black legends, peace and blessings.
Love Jim Kelly, but I never liked the part in Enter the Dragon where his character got killed. I knew about Jim's character originally wasn't supposed to die in Enter the Dragon. They could have written his character not dying off, but we know how they do the black man in America. Wish they would have at least made an alternate version with Jim in the courtyard fight. A movie with Bruce Lee & Jim Kelly as the main stars, in a gung fu flick, would have been epic. RIP Jim Kelly, Bruce Lee and all who passed away, who were a part of that classic movie.
Jim Kelly, in a way, was just as charismatic as Bruce as far as fighting scenes on camera. The man's character dies in ETD and he was still able to stand out and more so than John Saxon. They should have found a way to put all three in another film and not have the black guy die.
It seems like he was such a great guy! He was one of my childhood heroes, and he projected a very positive image of Black people on the big screen. (It's a shame what John Saxon's manager did. That was foul.) Every time I see him, Mr. Kelly strikes me as sincere and humble, and very respectful of Bruce Lee. He also seems extremely believable, as opposed to those who have chosen to trash talk Bruce, after his death. Mad respect to the great Jim Kelly! May he continue to inspire. ❤🖤💚
Enter the dragon isn’t a Bruce Lee movie. It was a Hollywood movie. Return of the dragon is a Bruce Lee production. And game of death the movie he was trying to finish was also a Bruce Lee production. All true Bruce Lee fans know what a Bruce Lee move/production really is. Verses him starring in a movie.
Originally Bruce Lee was supposed to be the only one to survive, but they couldn't have a Chinese man as the only hero, so they made John Saxon one also.
Yeah right, he made 3 films trying very hard to imitate Bruce Lee, but yet complains about not being able to show off his skills in Enter The Dragon? What exactly did he do differently, in his own films, in contrast to ETD? Like Chuck Norris, he also appears to forget who gave him his start in films to begin with. Without Bruce Lee to give them a break, no one would even know who Kelly and Norris is.
Jim had a dozen times to be himself and look at the result. His copy and paste horrible Bruce lee impression killed his career . Along with hitting stuntmen for real and even telling Jackie Chan he didn’t know nothing .
That was really good. Keep up the great job keep going you will win matter fact you are winning. Bring more awareness of black legends, peace and blessings.
Saxon and his agent was racist. His character is suppose to die. But nope we insist on the black guy being hung. As a black child seeing this film that part was particularly traumatizing due to knowing the history of hanging black people in America
I felt sorry for Mr Kelly, as he said he wanted to show more of his stuff but because it's a Bruce Lee film it had to be Bruce Lee's way , obviously because Bruce is the star , Bruce didn't want anyone looking good or up to his standard, there is more to Bruce Lee in reality than people think.
Jim said originally his character was supposed live and it would've been him and Bruce fighting side by side in the end. All that was switched because of John Saxon didn't want his character dying. Bruce wasn't the issue it was John. Jim was saying Bruce wanted to do future projects together but unfortunately Bruce passed
@@nickgillespie6232If you werent pleased with Jim then by comparison John's choreography was even more displeasing to watch and far less convincing especially when he fought Bolo. The movie would've probably been far better with the original character setup.
@@nickgillespie6232 Well even if you weren't impressed with Jims choreography and the execution of his kicks Jim was a legitimate martial artist and that was martial arts choreography in its early stages. Like you said it was Bruce's movie so he was the star. Flawed or not Jims choreography was much better than Johns there was nothing convincing about John as a martial artist especially that Bolo fight with John. Yeah John added star value to the film but his fight scenes felt forced. The original intention of Jim and Bruce would've been a much better movie but unfortunately Johns ego wouldn't allow that.
@@nickgillespie6232 " but it didn’t look great. He couldn’t extend his leg fully to execute a proper kick. " may have been the camera angle and the zoom of the lens that made it appear that way.
@@nickgillespie6232 yea I've seen the fight scenes many times...don't have any nitpicky issues. Its just you as no one else has voiced any problems about it. Anywho moving on.
Most of these people like jim kelly always made up stories. bob wall says he hired him for the part in ETD and in fact actor Rockne Tarkington was the first choice to play the part of Williams in Enter the Dragon (1973), but just before the start of filming he was replaced by Jim Kelly. Jim Kelly he used to talk shit about bl in the past and he later turned around and said bl was the greatest marital artist..lyn ass nga lol
