I love Lamps. His passion for boxing is unreal. He wasn't an announcer for the money or career, he just loved the sport. I miss the old HBO crew. Great interview!
Jim has made me cry or almost cry & touched my heart at the very least 2 times one in this interview when he talks about gati-ward and the other time when he was giving his farewell speech after the last fight he called with hbo he’s a good man with a caring heart
I love the clear respect Rob shows to him. And obviously for good reason, but it's nice to see. Many media outlets just see everyone as a number. Boxing News are legitimately driven by passion not numbers and money!
Lampley is a treasure. Seeing him choked up over Arturo and Mickey has a lump in my own throat. He not only understands, but is able to communicate the savage beauty of the best of boxing.
Just hearing Jim describe Arturo Gatti vs Mickey Ward is pure gold. We are so lucky to have had the privilege to hear Jim on those legendary nights that only come once a generation. He is the GOAT boxing commentator. He is the standard by which all others will be measured💯🥇
Great to see Jim's emotion and tears coming out over Gatti v Ward. Eddie Hearn should get Jim on the payroll and bring some of his magic back to live fights.
@@frankjaeger393 listening to Jim he still sounds mythed and upset with HBO pulling the plug on his dream job. I don't get the impression he's ready for pipe and slippers and his passion for the sport is still there for all to see.
@@BelfastBoxingNBlues he's a boxing enthusiast and former commentator who was made to stop doing what he loves through HBO quitting boxing. Why wouldn't he accept a route back in commentating on WORLD title fights?
Gotta love and appreciate Jim, his passion and love for the sport & the fighters is soo authentic. Nothing fake at all about it. It’s the reason why he’s soo respected and very much missed on TV.
Jim is probably my favourite person in the sport that operates outside the ring itself. His voice alone is iconic. You knew you were in for a great night of boxing when you heard "Hi, I'm Jim Lampley". He has such a deep and palpable reverence for fighters.
I once bumped into Barry Tompkins in a laundromat in Higher Broughton. He was entertaining the folks by doing an impromptu colour commentary on a laundry cycle. Ever the professional.
Beautiful, eloquent commentary is Jim’s trademark. No different here. Thank you for this video. As a fan of the man and the sport it is enormously inspiring.
“Having watched you on the television as a young boy and grown up with HBO, even in the U.K as a fixture of the boxing landscape” - A fellow old school illegal downloader there revealing himself. God bless SIMBROS wherever he is now. 🥊
Lampley is tremendous. He's a boxing guy, loves the sport thoroughly, KNOWS the sport thoroughly, the highest level of professional broadcaster. (I cannot stand Mauro Ranallo's bombastic style.) It was insane for HBO to dump boxing when they had spent decades building up their brand as the gold standard of premium-cable boxing. It's even more insane that it took...five years...before Lampley was involved in a boxing broadcast. I don't know where he goes from here, but any boxing organization, promoter, network, casino, DAZN, whatever, has this incredible resource who will elevate their production...just offer the guy a first-class roundtrip plane ticket, a suite at the fight hotel, and a reasonable fee, and he will show up with all his skills and knowledge, ready to go...
Jim lampley , Larry Merchant, Max Kellerman , George Foreman, Bob Poppa, Emmanuel Stewart . Their insight ,experience, and professionalism made them the best of the best as far as commentary for boxing really happy to listen to Jim again.
Brilliant interview Jim's love and passion for the sport is unparalleled it absolutely baffles me that another network didn't snatch him up. I think a lot of these broadcasters just want a company man with no soul who will always follow the narrative. Jim isn't like that his passion is too strong and he goes with his heart I'm glad he's back.
Quick Question for Y'all: How can anyone NOT like Jim Lampley!! He's just SO down to earth, extremely passionate about OUR beloved 💗 sport of Boxing & always tries to make time for a quick interview. Great husband & father & an overall Boxing Maestro on the mic. Seeing him crying his mince pies out just by talking about The Gatti Vs Ward Trilogy showed me just how passionate he really is about Boxing & how personally engrained in his heart 💗 those 3 amazing & fantastic fights are. Jim Lampley Sir, I salute you as a Colour Commentator & a Gentleman & above ALL, as a VERY NICE, DECENT, RESPECTFUL, HONOURABLE & WONDERFUL MAN INDEED. We love 💗 you Always Jim Lampley Sir 💯💗🌍👑✌️☪️💗💯
Legends are not just made inside the squared circle, the theatre is also made by amazing journalistic story tellers like the main man! He was boxing in the USA for me for many a year! Wish UK took note, no disrespect but only a couple are decent nowadays.
The plan was for canelo to fight and have a training camp at cruiser weight while collecting a belt against one of lesser champions. This camp at a higher weight would give him a slight advantage in order to drop down and campaign at 175 thus conquering that division... buttt the fight vs mbaku fell and canelo and team jumped the gun and went straight to bivol... canelo has been doing this for a while... fight chaves at 164 to get ready for ggg at 160 then fight rocky at 168 in order to get ready for jacobs at 160 then kovelev at 175 to get ready for 168 campaign ... after undisputed a fight at cruiser to get ready for 175 campaign
Jim Lampley is a national treasure. His passion for boxing shows but Tyson Fury vs Muhammad Ali both in their prime? Ali would toy with Fury. OMG. Ali would hit Fury so fast and hard Fury would think he was rubbing him. 🤣
Looks like i’m the only one who finds it cringey he has tears in his eyes, he started crying on the Trish Dixon one to. The people he’s talking about aren’t his friends, their people he was paid to talk about.
This is why i love this channel and Rob's interviews. He gets these legends to sit down and he asks simple yet open questions and just lets the interviewee speak about their passion. It just makes for great listening and Rob has delivered so many like this over the years. Great job.
This man is why boxing fans kept growing. He let the casuals and hardcore fans remember what and why boxing is beautiful sport that is unbiased and pure truth.
@@bambamunlicensed9085 No, friend. Gatti busted Ward's eardrum in round 3 of the second fight, and broke his hand on Ward's hip about thirty seconds into the 4th round of the third fight. But yes, both mean were absolute warriors to see those fights to the end.
How can you not respect Jim. And I think it's funny people say boxing things don't get the fights it deserves. That's not because of the sport or the fighters Or the promoters. It's because of the streaming services. When HBO and showtime and before that NBC ABC CBS were the ones promoting the sport on national TV that's when all those fights happened
