JIm could've been a much better manager if he had just kept his mouth shut. He constantly bashed his own players and took their confidence away... He sucked as a manager ..
With all due respect, 6 division titles, 3 league championships, and a World Series ring on his finger, I would say he inspired some teams, more than most. Show some respect dude, he’s not Brad Ausmus!
@@KeithFroehlich07 Read what I said, it says baseball Manger rants, which has very little to do with if anything with arguing with umpires, two different things. You want hear a classic rant? Go to Lasorda comments on Kurt Bevacqua and Joe Lefebvre after the Tom Niedenfuer bean ball incident. That is a rant, which is what Jim Leyland was doing, which has nothing to do with what you are talking about.
That LaSorda rant on Bevaqua was precious! He had another one about Dave Kingman after Kingman torched the Dodgers with like 3 bombs in a game vs the Cubs I believe. That one was directed at a reporter I believe who asked Tommy about Kingmans “performance “. Im sure that reporter never made that mistake again
@@caveman3096 Yeah, that reporter was stupid for asking that question, he hits 3 home runs against them and ask Tommy what he thought of his performance. Lasorda should have gave him worse if you ask me. I think I would have had to say hello to his jawbone with a right hook.
Everyone seems to be such an expert on Jim Leyland and his managerial credentials...the fact is that his players loved him and loved to play for him. The only reason I will agree that it was time for him to go is that with replay being instituted...we wouldn't be entertained every few games by one of his epic rants.
@@jayleon7348They do miss him and the millions of other fans that no longer go to games and spend exorbitant money on any woke sporting event. Sports have become too political and regardless of which side you’re on, nobody wants to hear someone’s political views. People go to sporting events to have fun and get away from it all and it used to be a thing that brought everyone together. That has now been irrevocably tainted. Again, nobody is going to lay down close to 1K for a family of 4 to go a game (tickets, memorabilia, concessions combined) to have some Woke BS / Agenda pushed in their faces. Sports and entertainment as a whole has a lot of repair work to do and they all do miss their fans. That’s a fact.
*Why aren't there more clips of Jim Leyland?? This makes me sad!!! Shows you how much money one could make just recording and uploading clips that the broadcasters won't/don't.*
Umpires have been suspended before buddy joe west was suspended in 2017 for jokingly saying Adrian beltre complains a lot and fielden Culbrerth was suspended in 2013 for letting Bo Porter take out a pitcher before he threw a pitch
Leyland was the end of an era. When crusty old managers required taking responsibility. Today's players need special rules against the shift and how and when to pitch and hit. If you don't get a hit BECAUSE of the shift - you are NOT a MLB player, just a wannabe that should be in AA ball.
As a life long Tigers fan since the mid 1960's I believe Jim Leyland was way over rated & not a good manager. He got lucky with the Tigers because they had a ton of talent & should have won a few WS but his managing was awefull. But I will agree with him on this.
Jim Leyland gave Detroit it's best 10 years of baseball at least in my lifetime (I'm 51) You give Leyland the 84 Tigers he wins a World Series. Even though he didn't win one he was still an outstanding manager.
@@msudawg685 He took them from the outhouse to the penthouse in 1 season too in 2006. Not even Sparky pulled that off. It took him 5 years to get the Tigers into the playoffs and into a World Series. And even then, though he won it, he only did that once, Leyland did it twice. Won more divisions than Sparky did too, granted with less teams to compete with....but even so.
