So weird to hear a slipknot guitarist playing blues licks through a clean fender amp.

I met Jim when he was touring with stone sour at the Hardrock casino in Hollywood Fl.. Jim was cool, I asked him how the ladies treating him, he chuckled and he signed my stuff we took a pic I shook his hand thank him for coming down and wished him A great show and it was.. Real cool guy.. Thanks Jim.

You can tell he absolutely LOVES guitars. One of the best players I have seen. Inspired me to learn how to play. Love you Jim!

I wish he'd do more videos of him playing things other than Stone Sour and Slipknot.. I love to hear pros playing the things that inspire them instead of just their band's music all the time.

I appreciate his sound/tone, and i also respect his taste in guitars. When it comes to metal you either play a superstrat with humbuckers (ESP MII, IBANEZ...) or a radical shape like the ones offered by Jackson, BCRich, Dean...Root went with a non conventional rout: Fender! I give him credit for making models like jazzmaster and telecaster cool and convenient for metal.

Dude is around 6' 7", with a 3 foot beard.

What beautiful tone and playing. In a strange turn of events I ended up with one of Jim's former studio guitars (now an "extended borrow" by the friend who sold it to me), and it's cool to see how it's set up exactly per his usual specs. I believe mine was from his earlier days with SK, and it's a completely customized Warmoth Strat (former USA 50s reissue Strat) built to his specs, but with aftermarket S-S-H (before he went with EMGs). Heaviest guitar I've ever played, but the way it resonates... it trembles in your hands like something alive. Never felt a guitar like that. Love the compound radius Warmoth Pro maple neck. I had listened to Slipknot once in a while but didn't know names or anything. More of a blues hack. Learned that the guitar belonged to Jim some time after I bought it -- so for the novelty, I found vids of him on RU-vid and watched him play -- love his versatility, and it makes the instrument all the more special. Seems like a cool guy. Very talented.

Jim root is an amazingly rounded player. That noodling was cool. Bet he can hold his own in any style, I wanna hear a instrumental solo album.

As much as I dislike Slipknot and the music they make, it's downright stupid to deny that they're all, especially Root, incredibly talented musicians. This guy's great.

That's a sweet guitar. Jim is a beast of a guitarist. I like the simplicity - volume knob, selector switch, done... Oh, and two active pickups of course.

Honestly I love the specs he has for his guitars except I'd put a tone knob on there. I love the classic shapes of Fenders but I love the sort of modern appointments he adds to his guitars. To me a shape of a guitar should not dictate how it sounds forever. Cool that he played it clean too

Awesome guitar! Slipknot is one of the bands that got me into metal and I also have an appreciation for older, more "classic" electric guitar shapes.

I dont undertand the people raging in the comments in general... why do you even put the effort in writing a comment? let me put this straight: if you dont like it, go listen to something you like! As I dont have to like Steve Winwood or blues you dont have to like Slipknot or Stone Sour! A real metal head (in my opinion) is tolerant, listens to everything he personally likes (and if its a little bit harder than something like Guns ´n´Roses), and doesnt rage in some youtube comments like a 12 year old who didnt get his new console and GTA V for christmas.

Got my first Jazzmaster the other week, the TVL one and I can concur that it is the most comfortable guitar I have ever played. I tried to fight that I didn't like it as much as the Strat or Tele but they are just awesome! It's all i'm grabbing out of my collection since I got it. Wish there were dot inlays on this one though!

I love watching popular musicians in an intimate setting like this playing licks on their favorite guitar, bass or drum kit.

Not a big fan of that particular guitar, but Jim Root is dope as hell, so he gets a pass with this thing. Edit: Actually, after watching the whole video now, that guitar makes complete sense for him. Emphasis on him though. It's not a guitar I would ever buy, even given the fact that I'm a huge fan of Root and have a lot of respect for his work.

I played this Model with his Orange Rig at the guitar store..... The employes just saw my like "fllashed" face when i came out of the Amp room and putted it back veeeeeery carefully. Abd they were like "What the matter dude?" I just looked at them with relieve and said "Maaaan this baby just sounds like on the Album!" An awesome guitar!

i love everyone bashing on him. he does his own thing and sticks too it no matter what people think he does what works for him, theres a reason why your all at home on your computers and hes out touring the world playing for millions of people.

Wardrobe full of jean and hipster checked shirts both new and like 30 years old...all I need now is money for one of his signature guitars cause it's such a delight to play them...I mean the signature stuff is like made for me :D (ok maybe I'm too obsessed with Jim)...I played the black Tele in Prague like four months ago and it's awesome guitar...got to buy both Jazzmaster and the white/ebony Telecaster one day :3 (side job with my medical school I guess :D )

I love the single coil sound and applaud those using it instead massive sounding pickups that choke everything else out of the sound. Ty Tabor does it best.

I love how this guy turns every Fender's classic into nu-metal, Ibanez style guitar, changing every essential spect of the original instrument 🙂

I walked into a music store yesterday and saw the white tele version. which I immediatley wanted to buy because of the ebony fretboard. And it just got better as the salesman explained the guitar to me... mahogony body , contoured heel, locking tuners, No worthless tone controls! And the guitar I was looking at was a trade in and had passive pickups installed. So yes I bought it! Jim Root really came up with a winner. This guitar has two advantages over the average Gibson... string -thru..and maple base on the neck ( with the ebony cap of course).
