Why the product struggles today is because of Vince’s micro management. Everything that they did to beat WCW now they just throw everything away in favour of Vince being in charge of everything, simply because he can. The early years of WCW Vince didn’t evolve his product it was the same childish nonsense that insulted the audience’s intelligence only until WCW started to kick their ass Vince started to change. He was forced to adapt, the attitude era isn’t something he planned or wanted to do
Because the Mr. McMahon character has overshadowed Vince the color commentator. How you don't understand this is beyond me. Vince went from not being the boss on air, to being the boss on air as well as the hottest heel in the business at one point and now he's going back to being a color commentator? No one will buy into that.

It feels like modern day Vince McMahon wants all his wrestlers to sound like Bobby Heenan, Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse Ventura. The difference is, those guys were all being themselves so it felt natural. Everything these days sounds fake & forced. Not to mention horrible.
Remember when Joey Styles was brought in to replace JR because Vince wanted a new commentating style? About a month later Styles quit because he was being repeatedly criticized for not "commentating enough like JR". FFS!

I've been in jobs where I've hated my boss & that got me down enough. JR has an amazing amount of mental toughness to be able to put up with Vince yelling in his ear week after week & still deliver with such passion!
I love JRs commentary on Dynamite. He brings some logic to the madness. The tag matches are often jumbled and the referee seems to have no control. JR will say exactly what I’m thinking in those moments. They should add JR to the production team if he isn’t already just in a role of getting the referees to look like they know how to keep control of a match. It’s a work we all know but it should still look realistic and like there is a set of rules that need to be followed in the ring especially in the tag matches.

There's a clip somewhere of Michael Cole doing commentary and Vince berates him during it. You can't hear Vince but you can hear Cole responding to him extremely startled.
Jr is literally probably the only guy who when he talks and says stuff I know hes telling the truth and hes never said stuff that is mean or hurtful or even really negative unless telling a story. Jr is one of the best commentators of all time he was the voice of my childhood not tony not jerry not anyone but Jr. The wrestling industry truly needs more guys like JR in it. Hes an all around good and nice person and great at what he does, the fact wwe treated him the way they did for so long is something I will never understand.
I had a boss like that. Just blew up at every single perceived mistake. Some people dealt with it, I left because I didn't sign up for that kind of abuse. Later the company ended up firing the manager and asking me to come back. I declined.

I've worked in TV news for years so clearly that's where Vince learned how to produce because that's how it's done when you work in news as well. Behind every calm person in a suit on your TV is a crazy person screaming in their ear and cussing like a sailor.
Love the man, stopped in WV at my moms work place to get a pipe/tube for his oxygen machine and my mom gave him one on the house cause she saw who he was. Jr then gave my mom 6 tickets to the AEW show in Charleston, Wv. Coolest shit I’ve heard been apart of. Thanks JR

JR'S commentating style will always be the gold standard, but I do give credit to Michael Cole for his ability to repeat advertisements 10 freaking times each show!! That's my guess for how many times Cole said "Elimination Chamber will be two weeks from tomorrow" on Smackdown last night and not once did he sound annoyed at having to repeat it.

A guy back in the day had a channel and the videos were titled “Off the Air”. He somehow got a satellite that picked up what happened during commercial breaks and after the shows in WWE. He had a YouRube channel. I think his videos got taken down but a lot of em you can still probably find. He passed away about 5 years ago I think. I heard he was a cool guy.

As someone who grew up with a very intense and demanding father I can 100% relate to what Jim says here about how the toughness of his father prepared him to be able to work in an environment like this. I am fortunate that while my father was very short fused and demanded a lot at the same time unlike JR my dad was sure to make sure that I always knew he loved me. As a man at times he could certainly be hurtful if he went off and could often say things he’d regret I was blessed that he was always self aware, unafraid to make sure you knew he loved you, and at times willing to apologize and recognize times where he was wrong. Years later and now being an adult I have been able to have conversations with him where he truly knows where he was wrong and has made sure that we as his children know that he knows he made mistakes as all parents do. But while those times as you’re living them are very difficult, especially being young and hormonal, and often are hard to understand they can truly become an asset for your later life with the right attitude. If you look back to them with malice and feel you were treated unfairly they can be a serious detriment to you. But if you take an attitude of using them as an asset they can become a great benefit in your working life and your resiliency to deal with difficult roles and people. As an attorney the path to get through the schooling, land a job, and survive in those jobs is immense and full of people who can be cruel and backstabbing as they aim to achieve anyway they can. Living a life of growing around someone who constantly challenged me and expected a lot was such an asset when I took that path because the things that can often break people down weren’t able to do that for me. I think that’s the same case for JR here. The time he spent with those types of people gave him a skin and mindset that prevented the things that would break down others in his roles from breaking him and worked to his advantage.
Whatever they pay Troy Aikman, JR should have gotten double, and just for announcing. The amount of work this man has done to build the WWE brand should have guaranteed him a job for life like Pat Patterson at least.

Doesn't matter what era it is or who's in the ring he always brings passion and energy to even the dullest of situations. And I believe he would have been very loyal to the WWE to this day if they had just treated him with some basic respect. The decades he was loyal and showed up to work didn't even matter. As the Vince era winds down, these stories will just get more prevalent as his power wanes. Vince did alot for the biz, but he also did a ton negative as well. I would argue the biz was stagnant for almost 2 decades starting in late 2000 because of Vince.
Bell’s Palsy can be brought on and can be made worse with stress. We can visibly see the damage caused by Bell’s Palsy had on JR. But who knows how much of that damage could have been lessened if he didn’t have JR screaming in his ear all those years.

The vids with Paul are much better than the pod with him filling in. His voice is just so classic radio it almost feels like the pod is clipped and cut. The vids feel more real.
From all the stories I have heard about Vince it amazes me that company ever reached the heights it has. Not only has he sabotaged his own company MANY times he seems to be a pain in the ass to be around. I spent 8 years in the Marines. I understand tough love but there is a fine line between tough love and out right abuse. A real leader understands the limits of who he is working with and tries to improve them. Not shit all over them just because they can. I've also worked in broadcasting. How you managed to sound as great as you did with all the noise and nonsense going on in your ears is beyond me. Best play-by-play man in wrestling history imo. I don't know Vince, but he seems to get off on power and that's never a good thing.
