That song is what the 80’s sounded like…that song takes me back to 1985 when I was 15…there’s no other song that takes me back to a specific moment…amazing
I grew up listening to Simple Minds (which was my favourite band) and other 80's bands. My school friends used to criticise me for liking 'old' music, then I will answer back saying that people still like the 'Beatles', which is an even older band.
I read somewhere that they wanted Billy Idol to do this song originally. I cannhear it in my head, but no way it would have beat what we got. The song and the movie just synergies so well
In 1985 I think it was, I saw Simple Minds at Wembley Stadium. I was 11 and my Dads friend who worked for Rondor Music managed to talk him in to letting me go with him and his son. I had never seen so many people in one place like that being a wee Kiwi lad. It was amazing.
It sure does. It is my belief that we grew in the best of times, the greatest music. Cheers live long and cellibrate what we had and the memories we have
I, for one, as an 18-year-old pop music fan, was just happy to see Simple Minds on MTV -- I had only been introduced to them two years before when they appeared on "American Bandstand. It might have been a generic pop song, but the band and Jim gave it the Simple Minds treatment, and I"m curious what Jim's written outro was, but, to me, the "La la la la". is iconic in its own right.
When I saw Breakfast club and this song came on at the beginning of the movie everyone went crazy even the manager came out his office saying what is that and it’s just everyone loves the movie and simple minds that day was Amazing.
Those that say this is the best song are knowwhere near the best. What about I travel 12", Love song, Glittering Prize, Waterfront, warbabiess, alive and kicking, belfast child, promised you a miracle. All of their own stuff is leagues ahead of this...
Not their song. He explains it all on the Rockenteur Podcast. "The songwriter, Forsey, offered "Don't You (Forget About Me)" to Bryan Ferry, who declined as he was working on his 1985 album Boys and Girls. Ferry said later: "It was just bad timing ... Keith Forsey sent me a demo of the song and it sounded like a hit to me."[13] The record label, A&M, suggested Corey Hart, who had a hit at the time with "Sunglasses at Night", but Forsey did not think he was the right singer. Billy Idol also declined".
After the success log this track. He thought he was gonna be the next Jim Morrison or something. Went all in trying to be a rock star. Only to never gain the success level of that song ever again. But it also cost him his girlfriend at the time. Chrissy Hynde, singer and pretty much just a cool badass chick from the pretenders!
I was 18 when it came out. I was immediately impressed. I was discussing it with a Coworker who was 34 at the time. I told him how much I liked Simple Minds. He sneered that his 7 year old daughter liked them!
This is the only vid where I gave on every comment a thumbs up 👍 ! This song will never fade away and is part of my most intensive feelings giving me power to go on . I want this song to come after me together with Amanda Lears " Follow me " ❤🎉👍🖖✔️
A huge song not only the music. But the words. Huge impact high school kids, rite of passage, relationships, the future, the costs, the love, the fiture. Very important song in growing up. Plays in my head all the time. Im 66 now. Will always go on playing in my mind. I reflect on all the friendships, the relationships, all the love, the hate. Reasons for growing up.
Whenever this song comes on, immediate image of the Breakfast Club, Judd Nelson and the corn chip sandwich girl. Appreciate the music from Simple Minds.
NOTHING "SIMPLE" ABOUT "SIMPLE MINDS; IT IS NOT GENERIC, IT IS INSPIRING. I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG..... YOU ROCK IT SIMPLE MINDS, AND YOU ALWAYS WILL. :) LOVE ALWAYS..... D.
Average & It's s never gonna work. 😂😂 Gotta love those statements. Little did he know. The song that catapulted him and the band to worldwide superstardom. 38 years later, he's still a superstar, and they are still belting them out. Can't wait to see them play Dublin next March. La,la,la,la,la,la!!❤❤😊
Saw them in concert Saturday! They still got it. Audience kept singing the la la la la la la & we wouldn’t stop! Jim kept looking at his watch & after about 2/3 mins said “some of us have work tomorrow” soooo funny!
