I feel like she wanted the Ernest goofball on her show but she got a very intelligent and classy man and she didn't know what to do.

Jim Varney started out as a Shakespearean actor... he was actually a very soft spoken man..
@lyndafayesmusic
@lyndafayesmusic 3 года назад
Rhianna, did you know Jim personally ? I'd moreover say " dynamic Shakespearean" actor ? Did you attend drama classes with him and Samantha, when he was in Lexington?'d say Jim was in a Class of his own; Class first, and based on being greatly educated, and 2ndly funny as heck! GREAT INTERVIEW! This is the Jim Varney I knew, and in the ETVideo, Interview he was jumping into other characters,' course he was never wearing a suit when he and Joe Liles and I were clowning around; note at 1:47 in that "Toy Story" interview, in answering the question of "could have played Jethro"., and he says "In My Prime, maybe"...He's jumped into his character of his video of the really "straight guy with an attitude', " Your World as I See it!" I wish someone could take that character and re-film as a dedication TO Jim? Great character.Still, I am looking for the old cassette tape we made of " Muhlenberg County". Jim had a great singing voice too. The video produced by Michael Lynn has a few chronological incorrect splices, such as those of Jackie saying the word " Divorce" ---in two different time-frames wearing the same blouse with the same props etc., but I'm sure nobody would actually "care" about that, except Jacki, perhaps, herself ? Jim asked me to pick Jackie up from the airport when she came to California, ( probably because Joe's car was that big gas hog Pontiac, and my Dodge Dart got much better gas mileage !) Peculiarly, too, there's no mention of Jackie's twin boys ? I'm sure Jim guided them somehow into the entertainment industry too? And they also failed to mention Jim's part in "Operation Petticoat?" I'll keep Jim's personal opinions of working with Jamie Lee Curtis silent , here, because she redeemed herself so well later. Joe and I accompanied Jim to the "Gong Show" audition, too; The one that kept us waiting a bit bored and hungry for over four house...Of course we accompanied him to the Comedy Store..and there was the "Laff Stop" back then, in San Diego; My Dodge Dart came in handy for allot of those long trips. Jim tried to get ME to do some stand-up at the Comedy Store , as a character named "Cleatta Faye" when he heard the song "You're the Reason I'm not Married", but I hate "performing!" But Jim was one of the very few performers I could handle being around---Jim being so driven toward success never affected his basic, loving personality! Since allot of viewers won't believe my personal association with Joseph Perry Liles, who was just helping Jim sign with William Morris when I knew him- I shall state here, I would LOVE to meet up with Jim's sister, Sandy McKenny, sometime, to share some stories/ true ones-because there's allot that can't be stated here; However, she must have known and visited with Jim, DURING the week that Joe and Jim went back to Depoy, Kentucky, to visit with Joe's family, as his mother, Avriel, had lost her dearest closest friend. I SAVED THE PHONE BILL WITH ALL OF THE PHONE NUMBERS Joe and Jim called that month from my phone; and I'd gladly share those with Jim's sister, and Joe's brother and sister-in-law sometime. I was invited to come along, but I couldn't get off work to spend a week in Kentucky! By the way, I always thought Joe's favorite song was " Hear That Lonely Whippoorwill, " and when I played "Fine Feathered Friends" written about Joe, Jim said "Better not let him hear that one!" Jim was always so gracious and kind, and "always" jumping out of character---as his 2nd wife said-except when quoting Shakespeare ! WOW! He could have REWRITTEN all of the Shakespearian plays AS COMEDIES if he had wanted to!Replies Welcome: LyndaFayeSmusic@gmail.com

Same here. I remember watching all of the Ernest movies as a kid in the 80s and early 90s. Now, about to turn 40 in two weeks, I'm just seeing Jim Varney as Jim Varney for the very first time. I had never seen out of character until now, and I never knew that he was originally into Shakespeare. That blew my mind. It's amazing how quiet and down to earth he actually was compared to the Ernest character. He seemed like a very classy dude. It's too bad that he was such a heavy chain smoker and had leave us at such a young age. He was an amazing talent.

This video just now had a strange effect upon me. I used to love Florence Henderson. And I stumbled upon this because I'm on a Jim Varney kick for about the past week. She came across, to me, as so condescending. On the upside, it just made me admire Jim even moreso.

Man, if Jim Varney was around in this era, he would've had such a bigger and fuller career outside of just Ernest and probably would've been more respected as well. Kind of reminds me of a lower key Jim Carrey, a rubber faced primarily comedic actor with vast reserves of talent and intelligence and could've had a broader career more like his if given similar opportunities. Varney was by all accounts a nice, bright and thoughtful man and a fiercely talented performer outside of just comedy. Everyone back then was just so ready to always put the dunce cap on him and he gamely played along but you can tell he wanted more. You can also tell he was a pretty tall guy standing next to Florence, a solid 6' tall and muscular as hell.

Yep! Jim was in such control of himself, probably made her a bit nervous ? I'd say Jim was in a Class of his own; Class first, and based on being greatly educated, and 2ndly funny as heck!

What I don't understand is that she invited him to the show to cook and she just was like "I AM UPTIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and never moved out of his way. I don't get it. Oh and she almost stuck her dang hair in the food. Someone never cooks and her name's Florence.
