I once attended a workshop at the Univ. of Wisconsin, Green Bay held by a Dr. Frye, I think. He had a very interesting theory about how a violin worked which he demonstrated using a trampoline as a prop. He used his theories to set up a $100 violin in the white. The instrument sounded as though it could have been in the five figure price range.
One of the least interesting things that can be said about this fascinating lecture is that the professor is Dustin Hoffman's brother -- but only when looked at from a distance, and in his general gesturing.
Hi, I cannot find the title of the book where he took the diagram that is showing around the 24.20. He said "material selection for ..... design". Can you help me please?
You can find a version of it in Figure 25 of his recent review paper: www.repository.cam.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/1810/245817/OA-1506_Violin.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y There is also a discussion of the topic in "A balsa violin" by Chris Waltham
