Never to be surpassed. No one could match him in the 30 years either side of his peak. Certainly no one is going to have anything near his talent in this day and age of packaged ease ,for as long as this planet lasts. He is the high water mark. Mitch is also a legend . Mike Jeffery is a twat

The riff in Purple Haze isn't an octave, it's a Flat fifth...E to Bb

The two alternating notes in the intro to Purplse Haze are a Bb octave. There is also an anchoring E played with each strum. In standard tuning, it would be 6th fret on the low E (a Bb) played with the 7th fret on A string (an E), then alternate with the 7th fret on A (again an E) and the 8th fret on the D string (again Bb, but an octave up). Just alternate between those two diads.

I'll argue with anybody the most important guitarists of the last 60 years were Hendrix and Van Halen. Pure soul.

IMHO Jeff Beck should be included. His continued growth and experimentation and natural talent was unsurpassed.

That's the only truth. But you forgot 1 other...Dimebag Darrell...who reinvented it in the 90's, making him the 3rd and final one.

You see Jimi Hendrix was even called the Black Elvis because they need to compare someone. The Hey Joe song to me was the right song. It introduced him again with the color play. He’s not just a Blackman..It’s obvious a Blackman . I only heard Are You Experience. I mean Jimi was only doing the music they tried to colonized as their own.JIMI took it back big time. He was able to play for the majority without animosity because he was marketed that way. We always have to find away those days to appeal to the so called majority. Look at Prince did. He did the same formula. Appear blended in they are not scared of us. Crazy looking back. But with his skill set on the guitar he got over.

LSD acid came around n the Experience was born n Hendrix became the king of hippie land but he wrote some creative material n plenty of it in a short time Robin Trower along with Frank Marino Mahogany Rush kept the Hendrix influence going throughout the seventies Eric Johnson n Stevie Ray Vaughn kept it going throughout the eighties Stings cover of Little Wing n countless tribute acts like Randy Hansen keep the sound resonating still today😅 It doesn't matter what format Hendrix music will live on forever n how long u hear the songs u don't get tired of listening to them😅

Was he a 'virtuoso' guitar player? Not by any stretch. Was he a musical genius who changed the electric guitar forever? Most definitely. Rip.
