Nice reaction guys, You should do "Machine Gun" from Band of Gypsies album to hear him at his peak , it is mind blowing to hear all of the things he can do on a guitar...and it's LIVE !!!!!!!
Let's just say you've only tasted an iota OF AN IOTA of Jimi's unworldly talent. :) To me, he was one of those rare guitarists that could a play notes within notes.
I've seen a few of your reactions. You seem like a warm sweet couple. There's already 100 comments so I won't bore you. Others have excellent suggestions for listening. I loved Hendrix when he was alive. (Unfortunately I'm the one that's still around) The female here (sorry, I don't know her name) brought up something that i've pondered for 50 years. At the time Hendrix was using the guitar and playing rock because those were the avenues where he could be creative. With all his use of feedback and pedals, he was searching for sounds that didn't exist. He was ahead of technology at the time but if he lived longer technology would have caught up to him so he could use sounds and other media to create something extraordinary; beyond the guitar and the rock idiom. Thanks for the reaction.
- Another song you should do by Jimi Hendrix?... ALL OF THEM!!! :D ... - Hard to choose a "bad" one. And I'm sure many people have made / will make recommendations in the comments. - So, simply enjoy :)
Watch *Prince* live. Eric Clapton considered him a guitar god and with good reason. No one since Hendrix was the guitar showman he was. Oh, and he played most of the instruments on most of his records, sang the background and foreground vocals (Grammy winner for vocals), and wrote the songs too (Oscar for Best Score). The single most talented musician of the rock era by a WIDE margin.
Awesome performance by Hendrix! But, I don't like this particular clip from the Monterey Pop Festival. There is a newer clip on 4k that shows the whole band, not just Hendrix. You get to see bassist Noel Redding, and drumer Mitch Mitchel that were part of The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Jimi Hendrix's career spanned only four years but he is considered one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music. Sadly he died at the age of only 27. He headlined the famous Woodstock Festival in 1969. He had a lot of great songs such as "Purple Haze", "Foxy Lady", "The Wind Cries Mary", "All Along The Watchtower" etc.
What does "popular music" means?😂 Jimi changed the music since 53 years, since he died, 2 days ago, 53 years ago😂😂😂😂😂He changed the whole music.....That's why, 53 years after he passed away, he's, still, a legend, like Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, or Jimmy Page (the only genius who's still alive), etc.....
Why they listen to this song?......Woodoo child live woodstock, Machine gun and Red house live isle of white would be better, this Is just.....pfff ....not even his song for start!!!
@@sandorhartig3957 because, they have a channel on youtube....They find out songs on youtube! Unfortunetely, youtube is deleting everything from Jimi! There are only, few songs you can see on youtube! And, they don't know Hendrix.....Don't attack them please.....They listened to us, the followers who asked them to listen to Jimi, it's great.....I'm sure they will discover, better things from Jimi! I understand what you mean, it's not a great version, compared to what Jimi is able to do, but, it's not their fault.....✌️
"All along the watch tower" And "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" are 2 songs I would recommend. I'm glad you're covering Jimi. He's one of the truly GREATS .....
Hendrix is considered the greatest guitarist of all time. He changed the way the guitar was played and how it sounded, he surpassed music, like The Beatles did. When he came on the scene, people couldn't believe what they were seeing and hearing! Even established, famous rock guitarists were knocked out by Hendrix.
As you most likely know, Stevie Ray Vaughan was highly influenced by Hendrix. I saw both play. Jimi in L.A. and Stevie in Houston. And Johnny Winter in Austin...... Not to brag! 👅
I saw Jimi and The Experience more than three times. But I was a Jimi Hendrix nut case. I just could not get enough of his music. When he died it was like a big hole right through the middle of me appeared, and I wept and wept and wept.
For more of Jimi live on stage check out "Foxey Lady" live at the Miami Pop Festival 1968 , "Voodoo Child" live at Woodstock 1969 ( better then the Maui version, although the Maui video is restored and looks great the performance is not as stunning as Woodstock ). Also Purple Haze live at Atlanta Pop Festival 70 ✌🏼
foxey lady at miami pop festival is not as good as the Maui version, and voodoo child woodstock is probably copyrighted so i recommend the Maui version too
Plenty of reactions already on RU-vid of Woodstock Voodoo Child. I disagree about Miami Pop foxey lady not being good, you get to see plenty of his charisma. Maui Foxey Lady is cool too but it's hard to make out the lyrics because of the wind and foam wrapped microphone and Jimi even laughingly forgets the lyrics at one point. That said , they are all worthwhile videos because Jimi is phenomenal. ☮️
He was left-handed and played right-handed guitar, cuz there was no others, so he played backwards. I feel if I practice for years I couldn't played normally as he plays with his mouths or behind his head.
A right handed guitar turned upside down but he reversed the strings so he basically played it the normal way. Thick strings at the top. Albert King and Eric Gales did and do play with the strings upside down.
Studio tracks to check out: Little Wing, Castles made of sand. Bold As Love, Manic Depression, 1983, rainy day dream away-still rainin still dreaming, straight ahead, freedom. Hey Baby, Pali gap. Live tracks: machine gun (band of gypsys), voodoo child live at woodstock, star spangled banner live at woodstock, purple haze live at Atlanta, red house live at royal albert hall, Ezy Ryder fillmore east show 1. ❤❤
A couple more good live performances are: JIMI HENDRIX - VOODOO CHILD LIVE AT WOODSTOCK. JIMI HENDRIX - FOXY LADY LIVE AT MIAMI POP FESTIVAL. I would also highly recommend you check out his three studio albums: ARE YOU EXPERIENCED, AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE and ELECTRIC LADYLAND. And also his BAND OF GYOSYS album as well.
The wife is spot on. It's like the guitar was just and extension of himself. So natural. I got into him in high school in the 80s and like she said he was magnetic. I just watched and listened to anything I could get my hands on.
Johnny B Goode Berkeley Voodoo Child Woodstock Machine gun Fillmore East And many more. Jimi still has no equal in terms of originality and musicality.
you don't absorb Jimi Hendrix from one song or the same four songs as always.hendrix left oceans of material, more material than artists who carried on living to today.we keep hearing imagine if he had lived.he already made mountains of beautiful music.
Finally something some classic rock other than Pink Floyd. Don't get me wrong Pink Floyd is great but there are other bands that are just as good. Such Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Doobie Brothers, Blue Oyster Cult, The Doors and much much more.
There are videos preserved, but this was long before the music video was invented. His best music is only available as audios. Jimi Hendrix made me LISTEN to music, not just hear it. Most important was "1983...". Maybe not the best, but with most impact on me. Unfortunately shortly after his death. (My school mates saw him live!). Now, 50 years later, I would say "Pali gap" or "Hear my train a comin".
Hendrix is the music from my youth and legends can come to be thought of as cliche. Many great guitarist have covered Hendrix but when one returns to Hendrix, as great as the others are, Hendrix owns it and goes deeper than anybody else. If you want to know what would have happened if he hadn't died check out his Band of Gypsies. That band was a strong indicator where he was heading.
This would be my suggestion. Heavy and might not get the spirit if you were too young to experience America at that time ie Vietnam, civil rights marches etc. In the end he takes it to the avant garde in the tradition and as well as the jazz guys did back then. To me Jimi at his best, The Band of Gypsies. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jxFW5F87xK8.html
Dominica you are correct twice. Jimi and his guitar were one. Jimi was on another level. He was ten blocks up the road from any other musical artist then and even now. Like you said every now and then a person is born who receives the gift of playing guitar simply effortlessly, and in fact being almost boring to the player, but so remarkable to mere humans. Jimi was that person. I know, I saw The Experience live more than once, and you can take it from me, they were the BEST. Have you noticed Dominica, Jimi is playing rhythm and melody BOTH AT THE SAME TIME! How can that be? Strewth!! I loved Jimi as an artist. Talented? Talented beyond belief. Jimi was simply on another level totally from all other musical artists. He was light years ahead of his time. Can you imagine? A standard stratocaster guitar, turned upside down and strung to play left handed, which means the strings are reversed and the control knobs are in the way of playing the guitar. Who would ever want to play guitar like that.....Jimi Hendrix. And more too....Jimi could play right handed.....but preferred left handed playing. When Jimi died I wept and wept. So many tears. The greatest loss to music of a generation at age 27. Genius. There were many excellent guitarists back then and even today, but there was only one Jimi Hendrix. In the 50 years since his death I have never seen his like again. There have been many contenders, but they all are simply disciples of Jimi repeating things that Jimi was doing 20 years before them without advanced guitars or fancy electronic sound effects. Jimi was special Dominica. He was really really special. And yes, he had that I don't give a damn confidence. Just so remarkable, so phenomenal, beyond the belief of mere humans. Did you notice Dominica? When Jimi was playing with his teeth he never even missed a beat. How is this possible? Total genius! I love this man as a musician. I was crazy about Jimi back then and I still am. Next song? Definitely Johnny B Goode, Berkeley. Prepare to be amazed. Chuck Berry who wrote the song said that Jimi, 'Played the living crap out of the song.' After that, The Watchtower, a Bob Dylan song covered by Jimi. Bob told Jimi after hearing his cover that the song now belonged to him, and never played the song on acoustic guitar again. Other Jimi songs with The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Purple Haze; Foxy Lady; Fire; Voodoo Child; Cross Town Traffic; The Wind Cries Mary (slow and very deep piece), Also try Lulu Show Jimi Hendrix, Cream Tribute, Full Version....some fantastic and special playing ( I will not spoil it). By the way I saw this on TV in black and white way back in the late 1960's. Glued to the TV! I was a Jimi Hendrix nut case.
Jimi was HUGE in the 70s all the way to his untimely passing if want to check out more "Foxy Lady" or "All along the watchtower" are 2 of his biggest hits each one has completely different vibes Foxy lady being more of the guitar powerhouse of the 2 watchtower just takes you places!
NO, JIMI WAS THE BEST IN 1968 AND 1969, WITH THE EXPERIENCE 😂, FOR US, THE FANS, THE BAND HE HAD IN 1970, WAS GREAT, JIMI, BILLY, MITCH.....AND THEY PLAYED CRAZY CONCERTS, LIKE BERKELEY, OR MAUII....AND, GREAT BOOTLEGS, IN THE ELECTRIC LADYLAND STUDIO BEFORE THEY WENT IN EUROPE FOR THE LAST TOUR.....BUT, THE EXPERIENCE MADE THE BEST CONCERTS, EVEN IF BILLY COX WAS A BETTER BASSIST AS NOEL, THE EXPERIENCE, IN A GOOD SHAPE, WAS UNMATCHABLE.....😂" LIVE AT THE FILLMORE WEST, SAN FRANCISCO 1968", "LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL 1969", "LIVE AT SAN DIEGO, 1969", "LIVE AT THE LOS ANGELES FORUM, 1969" ( PROBABLY THEIR BEST CONCERT, ABSOLUTELY MONSTRUOUS).....
His time as a professional was relatively short but that talent needed an awful lot of nurturing and he did put in the work. Like all great artists, he had to find his signature/style and develop it. As he slowly got more attention and his fame grew, that lent to legend of gone before his time.
The greatest of them all. Believe me guys, that was just the tip of the iceberg. For more live material, "Johnny B. Goode", "The Star Spangled Banner" (from Woodstock), "Hear My Train-A-Coming" and his masterpiece from his BAND OF GYPSYS album, the incredible "Machine Gun". As for studio recordings, "Purple Haze", "Little Wing" (there's also a brilliant live version), "Foxy Lady", "Stone Free", "Red House", "Manic Depression", "Are You Experienced", "If 6 Was 9", "Castles Made Of Sand", "Bold As Love", "Voodoo Chile", "All Along The Watchtower", "The Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Start with those, lol.
Jimi was self-taught. He never took guitar lessons or could read sheet music. He played by ear, by the sound, until he mastered the guitar in his own way. It's why he was so different.
Not quite true, he learned from all the R&B bands he played with between 63 and 66. Learning from other musicians is the best way to learn. The reason he was so different is because he was playing R&B guitar in a rock context.
For Hendrix guitar work: "Are You Experienced", "Little Wing", "3rd Stone From The Sun", "1983 (I Merman I Should Turn To Be)," "Voodoo Child", and the live "RedHouse".

"All along the watchtower" is my fav one....❤ but original version is from Bob Dylan... ! (Bruce Springsteen and U2 do awesome covers too!) you need check it out the 4 versions!
Of course everyone will have their favorite Guitarists, mine does not include Hendrix, it does include, Terry Kath from Chicago, Joe Bonamassa, Dime Bag Daryl from Pantera and of course....the KING, Eddie Van Halen. Guys if you are wanting a Mind Altering Demonstration of next level Guitar work: Terry Kath with Chicago Live at Tanglewood, "25 or 6 to 4" ...and of course Eddie Van Halen, "Eruption" Live without a net! Now, these are 2 out of this world displays of Guitar Bravado...
PURPLE HAZE, FOXY LADY, ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER WHICH WAS A ( DYLAN ) SONG THAT BOB LOVED JIMI DOING IT!👍😊 KEEP ENJOYING THE GREAT CLASSIC ROCK YOU GUYS!💯
THE SHOCKINGGGGG LOOK😮 OF EVERYONE WHEN JIMI STARTS PLAYING WITH HIS TEETH😊, AMAZINGGGG AND FUNNY OF COURSE! 👍HE WAS A LEFT HANDED GUITAR PLAYER ANDREI AND DOMENICA, IT WAS INSANE FOR SURE, LEGENDARYYY! THE CLASS OF 27 YOU GUYS, ALONG WITH JANIS JOPLIN & JIM MORRISON ☹JUST SO MUCH NATURAL TALENT!
Keep it in perspective , this is from 1967 and there was NO ONE who even conceived of playing a Guitar like this . Jimi created the Model for being called a Guitar God .
i"m so sorry that this is the one you landed on. People LOVE this song. I don't...and Jimi is arguably my favorite musician. (The subject matter of this one also always bothered me, because that's not how I experience him. and it turns out . . . he did not write it. Just from his first album, you could try The Wind Cries Mary, or Foxy Lady, or Are You Experienced. Live, you could try the version of Voodoo Child from the Woodstock performance. And there are so many others!
A long way from Juan Gabriel but I still enjoyed it. Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock might be one to try. His band stop playing once he gets launched. They know they’re redundant
At Monterey would be a nice piece The who came on after….the crowd didn’t get into the Who……Hendrix owned the stage Janis Joplin became famous there as well
He DID practice a lot. I mean it was something he exercised to keep agile. But yes - I don't think even that truth matters. He just was. It was just gift. He practiced to find the sounds he wanted because I suppose even the guitar wasn't as good as him. He was maybe just forcing the guitar to take him more seriously! Without doubt for me, the best. Not even so much in technique but in the tones he laid down. The sounds might seem normal now in rock circles but that's after 50 years of them learning from each other. This man was inventing them.
Dear friends, please stop interrupting in the middle of the music, please wait until the end of the song before you give your comments. Also listen to Rory Gallagher ,he is from Ireland. Peace
Jimi was Left-Handed, but couldn't afford a left hand guitar. So he learned to use a right hand guitar upside down and to the right. Look closely, the guitar strings are inverted---the bass string is on the bottom instead of the top & the high string is at the top instead of the bottom! What a genius!
Jimi wasn't the first to play the guitar with his teeth but he may have been the last! Playing with your teeth and behind your back was pretty common "trick" by Black artists in the "chitlin" circuit down south.
