If this wasn't cut off so short, I have no doubt it would be considered the greatest guitar solo of all time. It's easy to see where Stevie Ray Vaughan got his inspiration from. If only Jimi had stuck around longer, he was just getting started blowing our minds.

Well this version of +Little Wing+ by the master himself is about ten times as beautiful and ingenious the the version of Eric. Jimi just varies the tone of his guitar all the time from beautiful mellow sound to overdriven high distortion but very often it sounds also just sweet and very beautiful . What a difference to the recorded version Jimi really sounded so much better than all the guitarists of his time and yeah he eclipses todays fellows too. Love Jimi R.I.P. Jörg Jendis

Very very few people are geniuses....Jimi was a GENIUS! To be that creative and to create a cultural shift before the age of 30, well that's pretty damn amazing. There are only a handful of these kind of people in the Arts and Sciences. In music in the modern ear certainly you can point to Elvis, Dylan, McCartney/Lennon as people who were ahead of everyone else and had a couple of semi truck loads of "it"! Jimi was there standing should to should with them.

Gigs at Café Au Go Go, New York and jam with Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa: I thought Hendrix was great. But the very first time I saw him I had the incredible misfortune of sitting close to him at the Au Go Go and he had a whole stack of Marshalls and I was right in front of it. I was physically ill. It was so packed I couldn't escape. And, although it was great, I didn't see how anyone could inflict that kind of volume on himself, let alone other people. That particular show, he ended up taking the guitar and impaling it in the low ceiling of the club. Just walked away and left it squealing. - Jimi Hendrix - The Ultimate Experience - Johnny Black

I have to imagine Jimi looking out at an abjectly terrified crowd around the 8:20 mark, considering tiny size of the venue. Only one man could blow a Marshall Stack cranked to 10 through a fucking Starbucks and it be allowed.

I listened to this very recording this morning. Whilst listening, I pondered and ruminated over his passing so young. Whilst tragic, I feel he was frozen in time with his creative achievements and in some way spared the ignominy of fading and withering away like the rest of us.

Jimi is a legend (although he wouldnt agree on that). I think he knew when he left that he had done enough. Maybe he could've stayed yea, but it doesn't really matter imo the music he left us will forever live on, and that alone makes him immortal.

Keyboards here sound like Steve Winwood (of Traffic fame), which makes sense since Jimi was jamming with him in NYC around this time. Winwood played on Jimi's album Electric Ladyland (released Oct 1968 - note "Little Wing" above is Mar 1968) on the song "Voodoo Chile." "Voodoo Chile" is the longer version of the song "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" which is the better-known version. Note the diff in the song names: "Voodoo Chile" vs. "Voodoo Child" (both songs are on Electric Ladyland). New fans must check out Jimi's "Voodoo Chile" (long version) which drips soul and kills with Jimi's guitar. Winwood is also awesome on this. A must see/hear is Winwood and Eric Clapton doing "Voodoo Chile" on RU-vid (thank you guys for an awesome "Voodoo Chile" live!) As to "Little Wing" above (thanks for the post!) it could also be Jack Casady (of Jefferson Airplane fame) on bass here. He was also jamming with Jimi at this time, and he too plays on Electric Ladyland's "Voodoo Chile" (perhaps not only because he was great on bass, but also because Noel Redding was AWOL; with a bad attitude, as the story goes). At the time Jimi is said to have wanted to do a lot of music with Winwood and Cassidy; a good choice based on "Voodoo Chile." Lucky me, I saw Jimi 4 times, including Randall's Island (with a stage pass!), Woodstock, and the Band of Gypsies New Year's Eve late show at Fillmore East (thank you Arlene for taking me to the show!). Imagine: Jimi walks on the stage with a new, all black/soul band, say's "happy new year," and kicks it! (Not that it matters, but I'm white - rock is a rainbow.)
@mjimih
@mjimih 8 лет назад
+Charles Abrams I can definitely see er um hear Jack on bass! Winwood? I'm doubting it. fyi Barclay LP labels in early 70's, at least for the French box with AYE, AXIS, & ELL inside, said "Sun Moon & Rainbow" on it. And while Eddie Kramer was admiring it in his lap, one day in 2000, he said "I wonder who this Sun Moon & Rainbow is?"

Quite obvious that it's Jimi... As for the other musicians, since it has been mentioned in the description about the Paul Butterfield Blues Band playing I'd say that was a fair bet... This is New York 1968, Hendrix was in New York in '68 recording Electric Ladyland. Members of the Butterfield Band play on Electric Ladyland, It is well known that Hendrix would jam with anyone and then invite them along to the studio, particularly during this period... Thanks for sharing :-)

Recorded on March 17, 1968 at the Cafe Au Go-Go in New York, these half-dozen largely instrumental jams feature Jimi Hendrix playing with Paul Butterfield (vocals and harmonica), Elvin Bishop (guitar), Harvey Brooks (bass, though his name is misspelled "Marvey Brooks" on the cover), Herbie Rich (keyboards and sax), and Buddy Miles (drums).

braxton hughes its worse than you think. EH has copyrighted Jimi's "image"and works hardcore like. When they got power they asked fans to bring them their personal recordings to sell to EH. Then they hoarded them. Also right after Jimi died his apartment was raided and tapes and stuff were stolen. Plus Alan Douglas was in charge for awhile and was irresponsibly chopping up and wiping parts of the master tapes. I have no idea how many reels survive from Jimi's portable recorder

Hendirx did not play guitar he was guitar he was one with his instrument. You watch him and there is no sense of effort, it just poured out of him. Many folks always wonder who the best guitar player ever was. Many many names come up but you got to then ask why is EVERYONE of them every single one of them..... compared to Hendirx? Jimi yes you were a human full of all failing as we humans are, well until you picked up your ax, then you became a god! Thanx for your brief divine visit here to share the glory...
