I was there. So looking forward to seeing Jimi. With all the acts the show went on for hours. He was next to last and the place was getting empty. We moved down to some great seats. Then he comes out and.............. By the time I got home it was time to get ready for work.

I mean I think it's still a brilliant performance, involuntary bad acid trip or not. And I love both Mitch and Buddy.

I think this show sounds pretty dag on good. Maybe Jimi was a little wasted but man he still has the moves. Probably more interesting than a ton of other shows Jimi is a breath of fresh air.

During Earth Blues he's playing in a way I've never heard. Super out there and brilliant still. 21.10 sounds like the solo from 8 miles high

Even if Jimi was dosed with acid without his knowledge, his playing is still mesmerizing. Hope I see you in the next world Jimi, I won't be late.

He's struggling with resolution he's been so fluid with. Distracted and dispirited. What's even wilder is Jimi's talent and skill almost rises above it.

This is so funny. Sounds exactly how you would imagine him playing on Acid. Kind of slow, struggling to to find the next phrases but then playing something unexpected yet (mostly) fitting.

... Hendrix is tryin to swim in the jazz ocean!!! not bad with a bit of Wes... Buddy is solid as a ROCK!!! vocal on point as well!!? Cox lays down the bass lusciously thick and tight!!! the powers that be DID NOT want this group to live...

Buddy is great but Mitch was a true jazz drummer. Buddy was solid as hell and if you listen to his own stuff from Electric Flag he does some serious drumming that shows he was definitely not playing like himself with Jimi. I think because they got together and learned a ton of new songs really quickly before the Fillmore shows and this was not much later, and I also remember hearing probably from an interview that they had only played together once between the Fillmores and this show. Still, it was only jimi who was off, because Mike Jeffries slipped him a TON of acid. He already ate pretty big doses before most of his shows, so he likely was on a ridiculous amount of it here, and you can definitely tell he is distracted by what's going on by the massive dose of acid and trying to play guitar but whatever was happening with his trip had to be pretty crazy. But you're right that I think his destiny was just to play with Mitch and Billy. The 4 fillmore shows were perfect and meant to be. Not really sure how the Band of Gypsies (or anyone) could follow that, those 4 shows were awesome and included in my opinion 2 of the best electric guitar performances ever, obviously THE Machine Gun from the 3rd show which any guitar player will also say is the best, and IMO the Stone Free he opened the 4th set with is right there too. With Mitch it did go in a more "Jimi" direction with the crazy drumming Mitch did. Some of the later performances of Machine Gun with Mitch where Mitch literally sounded like a machine gun on the drums were crazy, and some of the sets from '70 with Billy and Mitch I think definitely topped the Fillmore performances, but sadly they are recorded in terrible quality. It's sad that some of the best shows are some of the worst recorded ones. When you listen to enough terrible quality bootleg recordings you get an ear for it and can hear details when most people would just shut it off. That gives you a glimpse into how lucky the people there were to witness such performances. Makes me wonder how great and special the many shows with no known recordings were

The facial expression of Billy looking at Jimi speaks volumes. The other photo of Buddy looks like he sees something devious and uncool happening. Jimi and the guys still played well. Sad to think that was the last time Jimi played the historic MSG.

I heard Buddy Miles talk about this show in an interview… pretty sure Jimi played on acid a lot during his tenure and it was always my impression based on Miles’ comments that someone had skipped him some other ‘bad’ or extremely debilitating drug… similar to the Kieth Moon Horse Tranquilizer story.

I know this is a 'disaster' but in so many ways it is also bloody amazing? Earth Blues would have become a killer song live? When Jimi 'goes' he goes 'woooosh' doesn't he?

The lady with yellow underwear sitting over there "stained with blood" .... oh wow.....Jimi was definitely in a bad state of mind whether it is a bad trip or just a bad situation. He playing is way off.

❤ It was time for Buddy to focus on his other "cross-over" projects. Not big on conspiracy theories put out by people who weren't there...or not even born for another thirty years 😅 I wouldn't have wanted my ticket purchase price refunded, that's for sure. ❤

the claim is his manager gave him bad acid to ruin the concert because he wanted him to get back with mitch and Noel...Thats why Buddy says Jimi wants to go down---meaning walk off the stage - he was so out of it...I hate to hear him like this

I hate to say it, but BoG was not a lineup that had a chance of lasting very long. Buddy was trying a little too hard to make Jimi’s sound into something it wasn’t. It’s a tough situation, but BoG stuff is my least favorite Hendrix stuff. All the music is good, but that’s my opinion.

@@cougar2013At least Buddy Miles gave Jimi more cohesive drumming and versatility with his singing. I love the Band Of Gypsy! Of course I'm a Hendrix disciple and a fan of the original Experience but no disrespect, Jimi in general wasn't as focused in music as well as some aspects in his life as he should have been.

Jimi did insult a few girls, he was under a lot of pressure from management 😒 🙄 😑, long story short, there was wayyyyyyy too much going on in Jimi's life @ that time, rags to riches in such a short time, most famous rock star and highest paid @ that time. Long story short.. 🤗🤔😒

Good ole Jimi. Sometimes I just don't know what the hell he's thinking. This has happened more than once, but sometimes he'll totally insult a girl out in the audience like he did here at the start of the show. He'll do so by saying that he'll dedicate the next song to the girl with the yellow underwear. Than he'll get graphic and mention stains and even blood. That is totally uncalled for. I don't care who he is, that's just not acceptable.

after two songs he sat on the stage and wept and walked offstage. they told the audience jimi was sick, but someone drugged him before the show and this was the last time the band of gypsies performed together. johnny winter saw him backstage and said his soul was gone already, he was already dead at that point.

wasn’t “totally insulting” someone? am i missing the comment? he says “foxey lady, over there with the yellow underwear. and now it’s stained, with blood” how is that insulting? if anything it rings with all of jimi’s protest songs. the mood is thick and sarcastic, run down

@walterloucks9611That and the fact that he was tripping out on life in general. He was under pressure by his management to not even think about going any further with Buddy Miles at all cost which fractured their relationship. Jimi was confused and tormented by which type of direction he was to take his music, he didn't make matters any better by not regularly practicing his guitar, like building dexterity, and different scales and whatnot.
