Maybe I am mistaken but it looks like there is a mistake in measure 16. After the bend on 14th fret, it should end on the 12th fret of G string not the 14th fret.
You are right 👍. I meant to type “12” in there and I must have missed the number when I proof read because 14 is still a scale tone. But I am playing 12th fret at top with the vibrato. So I will fix it for Music Notes as well. Thanks for pointing this out. And I will pin your comment.
I also picked up this song by ear once, but except for the final solo. It seems to me that after the first solo, there is no 7/8 before the second verse, everything is played in normal sizes, I managed to pick up this part well. I've heard recordings of this song that seem to have 7/8, but I think its bad mastering, I heard this song 1000 times in normal mastering and dont know, how this could be. I used a program to slow down playback and downloaded studio takes on torrents, picked them up by ear based on them. Thank you for this video, it's a great job, good luck to you
Hey everyone. When I first heard this song, the guitars sounded to me like something just exploded. Hendrix is up there on my top influences list with Slash. This song really inspired me to learn lead guitar and the pentatonic scale. I automated the wah for this in Logic Pro because it would have honestly taken more work to get it to sound better with an actual wah pedal. There is just more going on in that intro after a few listens. So many subtleties that Hendrix himself didn’t play it like that when he ripped it out live. So I listened for everything I possibly could. In measure 7, on the original recording, it sounds like he’s doing a chromatic thing on the G string: 9 - 8 - 7 instead of a pull off between 9 and 7. You can hear it very very slightly and if you want to play it that way, go for it! I’ve always been feeling it the way I have it tabbed here and I could never get the chromatic thing to sound completely natural without it being a little “ugh, don’t do that again”. The studio take is an older recording so it is a little harder to pick out the subtleties in Hendrix’s strumming parts. Some parts may be a little hidden in the mix and you have to just know where to feel it out. This is not a song I would personally play note for note live because it’s more of a jam. But it certainly is fun to try and get it note for note. There are definitely more Hendrix songs out there worth learning. Do point them out below! And enjoy nailing this classic :)
This is absolute genius, to think that this was written in 1969/ 70 , Jimi Hendrix was so far ahead of his time, such a shame he was lost at 27 , RIP Jimi, your music lives on .
No Jimi wasn't ahead of his time😂. The 70s was the PEAK of rock/metal. Jimi came at just the right era to appreciate his music. The 70s wasnt the middle ages. There was plenty of technology available for musicians to produce whatever they wanted.
Jimi was mostly in the '60s. He died in 1970. He took the electric guitar to places it hadn't been before. Using feedback and different sounds and effects that hadn't been explored before. He was arguably the most innovative guitar player of all time.@@Ribbo
Best I've heard ANYWHERE, and trust me I've heard 10,000 attempts. I know as soon as I hear guys scrubbing away, instead of that creeping intro before the melodic lead in, what I'm in for. That caught MY attention. Totally faithful to "the Man" Bravo!
That was really super accurate for sure. I thought Pilky27 pretty much nailed it too. But this might slightly edge Pilky27 out when it comes to the tone.
That wah toggle with the gradual release of bend tension just sounds so unique. Jimi truly was opening up the world of experimentation that created the new era of rock n roll. A lot of people roll their eyes when you say 'without this artist, a lot of others wouldn't exist', but it's actually true. It follows the same rules as organic evolution. You stand on the shoulders of giants.
Funny thing is, the only other example I can think of is Spirit in the Sky. That, and lame supervirtuoso Buckethead killswitch songs (I like him, but he's proof that it's always possible to have too much of a good thing).
I've been looking around for videos of people playing this song note for note for about two years now and my heart exploded as soon as I saw the one and only Mr. Tabs just dropped a video on it. The best and most accurate one I've come across. Thank you for your service
If you haven't already, and although it's not note for note, check this out,it's ridiculous how Julijan nails Jimi's tone and style! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2B8hJRkmF5E.html
As a lefty who played with restrung righty guitars, people don't truly understand the struggle to play that way. The knobs, cable, tremolo bar, and contours make for a weird playing experience until you sort of get used to it. I definitely appreciate Mr. Tabs for doing this as a part of the great performance. For me, the SRV rendition got me excited about the guitar 😀
it'd definitely strange at first when you try to play the guitar this way! I guess back then it was even harder to find Lefty Strats. And yes... the SRV version is awesome as well. I love both!
I'm a software engineer and I play guitars too, when I started , I hold guitar to my right like Hendrix did. My teacher told me I was doing it wrong but that was the way I do it. Then I learned Jimi Hendrix was the same way too. Today I can play all of his songs easily and I wouldn't do that if I followed my teacher's advice and become like others. At age 12, I knew that my left hand wouldnt handle all that shit. I was lazy.
Dude it's not just the guitar part that's perfect, even the fuckin audio traveling is on point. Listen to the original and then this cover with headphones, you'd know what I'm talking about. This has to be your best cover yet.
Dude, every time you post a Jimi I get chills because you are so godly at encapsulating the style and emotion of these artists and Jimi is my favorite ever. I've probably left this comment a thousand times but THANK you for these faithful renditions!! This is HELLACIOUS guitar playing and I've worked on my Voodoo Child for years but never had it JUST right - now I know I can REALLY tighten it up just like I did with Welcome to the Jungle, More Than Words, Pride and Joy, and SO many others with small blistering riffs and nuances that tabs just can't express. I AM SO HYPED FOR THIS VIDEO!
Mr.Tabs you are one classy guy. Not only did you blow the roof off with your spot on playing of one of Jimi's greatest songs, you dress up in that cool jacket for the full effect! Kudos and fantastic lesson! Cheers! 👍👍
On top of your awesome playing I love all the detail you put into things like your clothes and the wigs and accessories you wear depending on who you're covering, stringing a left handed strat the opposite way to play right handed was a nice touch 👌 officially the most accurate cover on the internet 🤟🎸
Wow played that GREAT! And the tabs is brilliant along with the playing, this has to be the highest effort Slight Return tab ever made on RU-vid and I salute you for it!
Thank you! I have to say.. a lot of thought and effort went into this to capture Jimi's essence as best as i could. I wanted to present the most accurate tab available (as we always try to do) but with Jimi... there's just so much STANK on his playing. When you dig into it's just so much more that what meets the eye (or ears). Thank again for the kind words. It means a lot to us.
I listen to this song first time and I just realised that Jimi Hendrix is just playing what he is thinking.......... I mean all that playing is coming from his heart and he is feeling each and every note he is playing. Love this song and thank you Jimi for giving us this amazing song👍👍
That was quite simply flawless. The way you play exactly what is tabbed down to each note and pick scrape is so very impressive on a song like this, particularly where there's so many unique little flourishes and nuances in each bar. I know you're a huge SRV fan - would be great to see your take on his godlike cover of this song sometime soon too.
Man I LOVE how you have the wah graphic. helps so much and i never see other youtube tutorials going into much detail with the wah parts on songs, and ive really been trying to work on my wah skills. Thank you so much
Very nice. You captured the vibe nicely without sounding too...clinical, like so many Hendrix enthusiasts do. Jimi was all about vibe and feel, he never played this song the same way twice!
Where have you been all my life lol This version sounds as close to Hendrix's studio masterpiece as I've heard online. I've been playing this since I was 16 and I'll be 60 next year. You even got the wah wah mute string riff at the beginning next to perfect. I could follow all your fingerings and your helping me to put the finishing touches on my cover. Time to dust off the ol' strat. Outstanding job!!!! Thank you
Just ran across this, the fact you took a lefthanded guitar restrung it playing it the way Jimi did is a total credit to recreating his sound. I saw him more than a few times and spent time with him at Electric Ladyland when I was with RCA records NY. This is the truest recreation of his sound I have ever ran across, well done.
You really nail it. Your a fantastic guitarist. If you would play this for people only by listening they all would have said that this is Jimi Hendrix playing. The solo is fantastic.
reading the tabs, i get a feeling jimmi just played what he felt at the time and just they had a chance to record it, im pretty sure he would play this diffrently each time
Oh I have absolutely I doubt of that. Even the studio version is totally all feel. It was hard work to track it because it's just a pure example of Jimi's style and feel.
great idea! There's a link to our webpage in the description. You can add any requests you have there, if you'd like. That way we have them all in one spot!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the Great Mr. Jimi Hendrix and to this fine guitarist here for creating this well done cover. The tabs are so appreciated
This channel is fantastic! I love it. You don’t have to go anywhere but here to get quality note for note accurate tabs for the most iconic rock songs that you know you want to learn (if you haven’t already, some of these tunes I knew but many of them I currently don’t but am gradually learning the ones I really dig) . You guys always sound amazing and have done /are doing awesome things for the guitar playing community with this brilliant channel!
Thank you so much! We try very hard to bring the goods both in the entertainment and education categories. These comments make it easy for us to push through when we are having trouble with certain parts.
Holy Shit! This has made my day! I have been looking for a good version to learn how to play this song! I thank you deeply from the bottom of my heart! You're so awesome sir!
Man, I came here to brush up on my own technique for this song and just my pick down after the opening bars to appreciate this absolute blistering play of Voodoo Chile. Top notch, my good sir, top notch.
Probably the sexiest song ever written. Thank you for sharing! Even the baseline and beats are a perfect compliment to the wizardry of the Iate legend.
You are amazing mate..!! I had 3 posters in my room when i was a kid. Slash, Jimmy Hendrix and Gary Moore! (And Sabrina ;) Found your channel and i am playing every day again 🔥🎸👊 Rock on and greetings from Amsterdam, Gijs
we can see how amazing Mr. Tabs is because in each video he has the guitar used by the author of the song. It makes me think, how many guitars does he have?
Damn I've been praying for this song to appear anytime on your channel and today it finally did! Jimmy Hendrix is the absolute god of guitars, and you are the god of tabs! Thank you for your effort
learned this in the 90's from a combination of the record, a (ropey) tab book, and blind enthusiasm. Never quite right, but enough to have a lot of fun with, probably got even sloppier over the years so this is just what i need to get back to it. absolutely spot on mr tabs thank you. and yes i liked the wee visual effect for the solo, great effort goes into this from you, the tabbing of it is borderline miraculous ! haha that's why you are mr tabs !
