yeah the fake happiness of escapism jimin said this album reflects his emotional journey from believing you are doing ok when you are actually not to hitting your lowest to rising above the struggle Jimin: By the time the pandemic started, I purposely pretended to be strong, saying, "We can wait a little longer." But "there's nothing I can do" seems to have been more damaging to me than I thought. I was getting mentally shaken up. Singers exist because there are fans who watch us, but since we can't meet our fans, we feel like our meaning has disappeared. And I'm getting more and more exhausted. At the same time, there were many changes among us. I was helpless about that, too. I was very embarrassed about my change because I never imagined it would happen.
"This song feels like escapism." Wow, you nailed it again. This whole album is his pandemic stories, which are not great and include a spiral into a heavy drinking depression and flights of fantasy. He knew he was having a hard time but the only people he thought would understand were his BTS brothers and he knew that they were having a hard time too and he didn't want to burden them. So he just struggled alone, as so many of us do. He processed all those feelings in this album.
♦Jimin mentioned that one of his fav movies “Like Crazy” he watched during pandemic, inspired parts of the song aside from the title of song. In the beginning as well as ending to the song, he even uses excerpt wordings, with voice over actors using dialogue more in tune with song, from it. Jimin has also said that many of the songs on the album convey what he was going through, his thoughts, his feelings, his emotions as well as despair & depression, during the pandemic in the last few yrs. He also was hoping that maybe it could help others by way of relating & going through similar difficulties during pandemic. So this song Like Crazy, could also be during that time, thinking back while laying his head down, on table in that depressing small room, dreaming of the better times in the past, when he was free to enjoy himself, as well as being with someone or with friends, or even around ppl in general, being able to be free to go out & party. Which is why he even said in the lyrics please don’t wake me up from this dream. I want to stay here.. Maybe, since dirt or mud means despair, that was what all the dirty grimyness including on his hands in the end, also represented, despair of situation, how he felt or how things were at that time, even when it seemed to even ooze into his dream state.
Escapism is definitely strong and Im glad you picked up on it so quickly. Love that you react to these with alot of interest and trying to figure out its meanings . Jimin's whole album "face" are stages of his life during the pandemic , I hope you listen to 'face-off' because that song is just wow , and 'letter'
I saw a clip of when Jimin was working on his album and I remember he had RM and I think JK with him with him. I was very struck by him saying that he felt the lyrics were showing him at a very pathetic time of his life. On an episode of Suchwita with Suga Jimin said he had a period where he was drinking heavily and was shocked that non of the members had pulled him up on it. It was clear that the reason they had not was they all knew the reason for his unhappiness. Suga said that's because they had all been through something similar. Jimin said he said he pulled himself together to get himself fit for their Las Vegas concert. I think it shows Jimin as a true artist that it is this time that he uses to pull meaningful lyrics from. Jimin has a 128 IQ and was academically successful at school. People miss how bright he is because they talk of RM. Jimin is known more for his beauty, dance and athleticism and kindness, but he is also emotionally intelligent thoughtful and insightful. He has worked with RM alot on lyrics in the past. I think he has been influenced by him to believe it is essential find the emotional honesty in poetry and lyrics and that is easier to do with painful topics.
"Like Crazy" is definitely escapism! I think you would really enjoy the story in Jimin's album "FACE" - please, consider checking the whole album and maybe an episode of SUCHWITA (it is a show made by SUGA of BTS where he invites guests to chat about their career over food and drinks. He created this show also because he wanted to give BTS members a platform to talk freely about their solo works. I think it would nicely introduce you to the members :))
I watch a lot of reactors. I love hearing other's perspectives because it will often show me things that I miss and I have to tell you that you are one of the best I have seen. You seem to get the message as a whole right off the bat. Keep up the good work. Can't wait for your next reaction and your next kpop group deep dive. :)
Since there is no choreography along with dancing in the Like Crazy MV, I recommend for you to watch: ❣Jimin “Like Crazy” Stage Mix by the channel Brilliant. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oYNMOEtb4mo.html shows all Jimin’s performances, edited all together. Jimin’s vocals, & dancing along with interaction with the backup dancers, as well as choreography, are stunning to watch, plus definitely some moves are reminiscent of MJ! Aside from the Inkigayo which is the only one you can watch safely, all performances aren’t safe to see on YT, but through the stage mix you’ll be able to see parts of all put together ever so masterfully, but audio is from the kbs music bank performance that had the best sound quality as well as loudest most spine-chilling fanchants. 👍❤🔥😍🔥
