It never ceases to amaze me that videos like this have so few views. This is about as "Americana" as one can get. As usual Jimmie continues to break hearts with his wonderful voice and gentle performance. I've known this song, like many, for a billion years....and this version just makes it as fresh and viable as ever. Thanks to Jimmie Dale, Dave and everyone in this band. Truly a beautiful rendition!

I was fortunate to be able to meet and talk to Jimmie for a little while, after their concert in Omaha last summer. He was so kind and we had a nice chat about our mutual friend, Steve Young. Hope to see him and Dave in concert again soon....

This song always makes me weep. The Seattle Labor Chorus sings this song as well. A good book to read is All That They Will Call You by Tim Hernandez. He researched the lives and names of those migrants who died in the awful crash. Quite a tribute!

Since you saw them, they've been steadily touring. See Jimmie Dale's web site of what must be hundreds of gigs in small venues. I saw them in Pappy & Harriet's in the desert last night. Two more gigs and they're done.Result: their new album is number one on the blues list.

Deportees and immigration. This song never fails as a social document, no matter who does it. The issues it raises are the same now as when Woody Guthrie and Martin Hoffman first chronicled the tragedy back in 1948. It has been 71 years since the plane went down just west of Coalinga and the sadness and racism is still present. Killer song.

And the tear that Jimmy has in his rare voice just makes the song even more poignant. I've been a major Jimmy Dale fan since I first saw him and met him at Antone's on Guadalupe in the early 80s. Major fan ever since those days. He seems to have stayed true to himself. This is one of the best performances of this great sad song.

Music is entertainment. I love Jimmie's music. But it's entertainment, nothing more. If you are looking for meaning in life you need to look beyond music.

sounds like you'd prefer Britney Spears (who is great at what she does and what you seem to like - music and entertainment. Is Amazing Grace just entertainment? Is God Bless American just entertationment.

This is a good song and I like Gilmore but there are many better versions. Arlo Guthrie’s is my fav but Kris Kristofferson with the Highwaymen does a good job too.
