I am so sorry for your loss. But I am really happy that your legacy will continue. You should be very proud of what you have created. I can't begin to imagine your emotions listening to this beautiful song.
Jimmie F. Rodgers passed away on January 18th, 2021 in Palm Desert, California at the age of 87... Between 1957 and 1967 the Camas, Washington native had twenty-five records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, four made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Honeycomb", for two weeks in September of 1957... Besides "Honeycomb", his other three Top 10 records were "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" at #7 in December of 1957, "Oh-Oh, I'm Falling In Love Again" at #7 in February of 1958, and "Secretly" at #3 in June of 1958... He just missed having a fifth Top 10 record when his "Bimbombey" peaked at #11 in December of 1958... May he R.I.P.
I was so lucky to know Jimmy personally through my in-laws father-in-law grew up next door to Jimmy and his parents first Saturday to him in Camas Washington when he was the Grand Marshal for the parade introduced to me by my wife rest in peace Jimmy we miss you
When I was around 10 yrs old ,I found a record and played it on my record player ,I was amazed at how powerful and sweet this song was,I listened to it all the time and even sang it along with my friends and family ,this was around 1975, one day when my brothers and myself were running around acting foolish ,my mother who was now fuming and warning us ,we kept it up and as we were running upstairs my mother threw the record upstairs ,understandably aggravated by our acting up and getting her upset ,well the record broke ,and I was very upset to lose something that I had grown so fond of . " she had kisses sweeter than wine " wouldn't be heard again around my home , my mom thankfully is still alive and well, and we are very close , I reminisced about this with her recently and we listened and sang this song and still agree this was an amazing song from days gone by! Rest in peace brother!
He was incredible, that Jimmy Rodgers. I can't think of any individual in the fifties and early 60's who blended folk, rock, and pop better than he. There should be some kind of Jimmy Rodgers revival in this land!
I love music 1900s+ and Im blessed to have found a radio station that plays this music! I also own chickens and I read that music is good for them so I play this station for them and this is their favorite song!
I was 18 years old when this came out ,and in love and fantasized about how my life would be with my love based on the lyrics of the song. Alas reality set in and no we didn’t marry, she went her way and I went mine. But when I listen to this song it brings back bitter sweet memories.
It is a bittersweet sadness Vito, I too had dreams of marrying my childhood sweetheart, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Hope you are doing well and have some happiness in your life.
So sorry it didn't happen for you two!! Hope you did find love that made you happy!! If not I hope you get experience love !! I'm married to the same man for 34 years!!
That's weird. It kinda did the same for me. I grew up in the 80s with parents who played this kind of music on road trips. Music like this always sent me into this daydream where I would wonder what love was like.
As a child i listened to this in my grandparents entertainment room in the basement. They had all my dad and uncles records and player there. Me and my friend loved this and we made up dances to go with it 😘❤
Been listening to this song since I was a tiny kid. Out of all the guitar lessons I have had, I can't say I ever learned to play by pushing my thumb across some of the strings like that (or anyway with the thumb on that hand actually). It seemed to work for him, at least until he started thumping it instead.
@@steverobertson7694 It was the strangest think I have ever seen from a "professional" musician. Shakespeare was right, there are more things than heaven and earth that are dreamt of in my philosophy.
Richie Havens played an open tuned guitar with his left thumb fretting the strings, but he could really play, while Jimmie's talent was singing. He strummed a few chords until the key changed, then he stopped playing the chords and used the guitar as a prop. This was common in the fifties.
Patti mentioned Honeycomb and that Kisses Sweeter than Wine would likely do as well. Honeycomb hit #1 on the Billboard Top 100 earlier in 1957. Kisses Sweeter than Wine achieved gold status while making it to #7 on the charts. This is a case of a cover doing better than the original. The Weavers with Pete Seeger topped at #21 in 1951.
