For everyone asking or saying this looked painful, IT WAS NOT. Jimmy and I did NOT pull all the way to the root. We were pulling the locs apart, not the root. If we did his hair wet it would have been painful, the water would have turn the build up into a glue texture and our hands would not have been able to hold the locs to separate. If it was painful his scalp and face would have been red and swollen. As you can see they were NOT.

One thing I really respected was when you said you aren't gonna tell a client you won't touch their hair because of reasons a,b,c. It's saddens me that people get turned away or humiliated from hair professionals over something they may have little to no control over. i.e dandruff or psoriasis. Because then who are they suppose to turn to?! So thanks for showing care and compassion!

I have an experience one time when I was a bit younger and i went to this hair salon. My hair back then was thick and wavy. The hair stylist that will do my hair, complained that my hair was so thick and coarsed. And that she will be having a hard time choosing a right style for my hair cos my hair is so wavy. She made feel that she hates doing my hair. I felt so insulted and embarrassed. After that, i was always hesitant to go to a salon. I got so conscious with my hair. I feel like hair stylist would always criticise my hair. Or at least I fix my hair prior to going to the salon first.

I had that happen when I was a child. Im biracial, and never liked hairdressers because I have thick 3c curly hair and they don't know how to deal with it. I went to a lady my tío (uncle) recommended for a haircut with my mum ", and she said eww I'm not touching that.... I didn't go for a haircut for years after that 😅😅

As an european white I somehow got the wrong impression of dreadlocks of beeing badly kept hair and not clean. I spent most of today researching about the topic and challenging my stereotype. Thank you for this Video! It has helped me, amongst other Videos to sucessfully overcome my Stereotype and educate myself on a topic. A thing I feel should be done more often, especially with all the stuff going on in our world.

Yannie I am happy I found you. We share the same views on loc maintainence and nourishment. I learned all I know from rastas down in Turks and Caicos. I oil occaisiomally, I feed it bitters from the Earth (tea like hibiscus, aloe, and fevergrass) and water. No fancy shampoos, no conditioners, no leave ins, no gels, no synthetic oils. I could cry because NOW I am seeing the pay off a year later into my journey. They are light, fluffy and happy but disrespectful because I retwist every six months. So thankful for my brethrens who encouraged and guided me.

I am SO happy you posted this video! I never knew what locs entailed and it is so educational. The more we know about each other, the more we can respect cultures, including hairstyles. I am white and I can’t tell you how much it means to me to see that black hairstyles are now required to be accepted and cannot be discriminated against. We are ALL beautiful human beings no matter what race, religion, sex, ethnicity etc we are. And you putting out this video makes me learn and understand about this important hairstyle that from what I know protects the hair. It was so interesting to see how you transformed it. I will be honest it did make me sad that you had to preface and mention several times about negative commenters, like seriously, what is the matter with people and being mean??? Where is the kindness? I see people making terribly mean comments sometimes and I am sorry you ever had negative commenters and had to put that out there. I personally loved this video and I subscribed to your channel. The more we know about each other, our cultures, the more love and acceptance we can show. He was a beautiful man with beautiful hair and the transformation you did was stunning. I hope he reads this comment and knows that we are all here supporting him and the courage it took to go on camera for an educational video. He really put himself out there and he deserves credit for that. And of course you as well and your partner for such a great job!! ❤️❤️❤️

That was AMAZING to watch! Once he was under the water, you could clearly see how healthy his hair is! Just luscious, thick hair! And I hope his Queen got the appropriate thank you from him! Beautiful job!

The amount of emphasis there is on positivity is why i subscribed. Not just withh locs but black people in general have issues when it comes to perceptipn of our hair. So having you emphasise how positivity is essential is lovely. I loved watching thissssssss. 😍😍 new subscribee xxx

I am fascinated. I am so thankful for all the tips posted on youtube on how to take care of your locs and separating them on a regular basis. The hair desiring to merge is a real thing

Goddess this man’s hair is just unreal! I’ve never seen so much hair on one head. His locs are beautiful but my lazy ass would have done shaved my head before doing this kind of maintenance lol.

As a hairdresser, I have never done locs like this before. This was totally fascinating to watch. Who knew it would be such a workout and that products could create such a problem. Thanks for sharing your hair experience with us and showing the correct way to manage them ✂

Thank you so much for saying no hate comments. I remember seeing a video of two locticians doing NOTHING but bashing their client. I couldn't finish the video because it made me so uncomfortable. Thank you for helping this man!
