@BK It worked for two decades, as long as people liberated from welfare's burdens took the ball and ran. Just like how the New Deal worked for two decades. Change comes in cycles.

@BK The economy runs like a pendulum. At some point, circumstances will require welfare assistance when the systems break down. At another point, it will need free market when the systems overtax the populace and stiffle momentum.

The presidents do actually use the indoor elevator to go up to their quarters on the second floor. Why they staged this, having him going up the outside stairs and then into the first floor I don’t know. I guess they thought that looked dramatic or something.

Carter wasn't responsible for stagflation. Hoover wasn't responsible for the Great adepression. But both men were unable to address the problem, because they were not elected to address the problem nobody foresaw. Few leaders have excelled in solving what was unexpected and unforeseen at voting time. Giuliani was probably the best leader to address the unforeseen, building New York back after 9/11. At the end of his mayorality, mind you.
