nuclear talks are important and it is good to see that the US is finally coming to the table with talks with North Korea. Unfortunately this is not enough though, as the biggest threat to humanity is a nuclear war between the US and Russia. If we are to avoid nuclear war, the US and Russia MUST come to the table for talks, despite all the recent disagreements.

There are sometimes in history, those rare leaders, movements and ideas,that we're right in everything but only failed,because they came before their time. Jimmy Carter is one of those rare jewels. A man of impeccible honor,dignity and Noble intents. A man of deep and sincere belief in god.Who did not use his spoken beliefs in religion,to aid his political or personnel ambitions.A man of real beliefs,not a hypocrite.Yet also a man that acknowledged that as a man he was always imperfect,that needed God's grace. He was and is a genuine humble,smart as a tact man who always put his fellow citizens,indeed humanity,always ahead of making a buck. Carter,was the oringal,authentic,sincere,man of the people. But he always did it out of sincerity.He truely worked to bring the masses up,to better them,then to just get them riled up to hate others,bringing no lasting good for anyone,but only damage. His ideas,human rights as the focus of our foreign relations,raising income for all Americans,attempting to stop the rising inequality in incomes between economic classes,his attempts to reverse union declines,his unyielding civil rights advocacy,his push for alternative fuels to make us not dependant on the middle East,his push to bring peace to the middle East by firmly being on the side of both the Palestinians as well as Isreal a true honest broker,his putting the nations and again humanities,needs ahead of any devotion to party, personal interest,even when it cost him dearly,that was Jimmy Carter.That was his presidency. Those ideas and personal behaviors,were right then and even more right now,because time has only shown,that he failed only because he was ahead of his time. Most of the seeming intractable promblems we have been dealing with for the last 30 some years,and where we made our biggest mistakes as a nation,sprung from our rejection of his vision. The middle East wars with their immeasurable loss in life and money came from our turning back to dependence on the middle East for oil,etc. Our loss of prestige and honor in the world as a beacon of justice and freedom sprung from our nations turning back from the cause of human rights,to one of naked self interest once more as the focus of our foreign policy. The middle East process for peace fell apart,because we became a spokesman and protector of one side rather then,a Firm honest broker who cared just as much for the Palestinians,as for Isreal,for those Palestinians who rejected violence and accepted peace in their hearts. In all these things Carter was ahead of his times. Today,his ideas are now seen by most objective observers,as having been the right ones. Our nation has turned to those ideas in some areas and in some,while it's a constant battle,those ideas will truimph in the end. For history has forever taught us,that those ideas that Carter espoused,are what brings survival,vitality and represents the greatest and best of mankind. When we as humans you lose those ideas and values we as humanly are no more. Carter,a decent honorable man who used his public as he always did his personal life,only to service and help his fellow man.A rare jewels indeed. And he did all this as southerner.Showing the great attributes that the south when it's shows it's best self,is not a enemy but was and always shall be an integral part of the union. Carter,fought for humanity the dignity of all,the common people,all black people,even against the almost universal bigotry of his home area.Where income even lives of those whites who publically ran for office,against that bigotry we're in danger. A weak man as his critics still call him,I think not. He represented the true best visions of the south of our leaders working for the common good.Of not having an overriding federal government tryany that only sought power over us. He used the government in concert with his citizens to help them better their lives not control them. He believed in saving our environment but letting sportsman and neccessary industry,also use it to help the citizency,thus helping to get much needed allies in the push to save our national treasures. He put helping our nation and her people above party,or ideology. He did not have expensive parties for lobbyists or his fellow politicians.He did not bribe them even legally It cost him.But he was right. He pardoned Lee.An act of national forgiveness.But did not do it to revive the rightness of a past that was wrong and evil but as an acknowledgement that in history man is always wrong in some things,even deeply wrong,but those men still had some honorable parts of them,let us not judge them,that we will be judged. Thus it was accepted by both northerners and Southerners. But then in certain parts of the south,they took that action not as in the spirit Carter meant it,but as a means to begin a renewed push to potray the Confederacy as have been right,if everything but slavery itself. Creating down the road to the hate, renewed sectional rivalries and ultimately to the tearing down of Lee's statures. Yes in so many ways Carter was right.But fate as in his Iran rescue attempt that failed,that cost him his re election and his exact opposite comming to power Ronald Reagan,was not fair to him. But history also usually balances lifes unfairness in the end. Today history is already starting to balance those wrongs done to Carter by fate.Im glad he has lived long enough to see it. And his voice is still needed on the public square.Now more then ever. And perhaps the greatest honor I could show him,this strong northerer who will make a rare visit to the deep South of Georgia,to pay my respects,to a great American,southerner when his God calls home at last.

I feel it odd he says how people would react differently to the faith to the wife thing. I know alot of people cheat on their lovers or wives but the president is a position of great statue and needs a honest person. I thought that was the whole reason Clinton was impeached, then again maybe he was impeached because of Hilary being all upset and all.

Seems like you left out the oil gasoline disaster just before his term . And the Petro Dollar scam with the Saudis . The world is still paying that price . See the Repubs and H Kissenger The Zio cons Bush and Co . wouldnt let a crises go to waste now would they . Or did you forget how Carter brought Egypt and Israel together? Have you seen that since ? It's not about partisan ship it's about corruption and both parties are complicit .

Remember this.Over 400 days our Americans spent in Iran because he was afraid to let the world know that the US meant business. Now take a good look at what happened after that. Hint, the world lost all respect for America and started a revolution to take down our country which continues to this day. So how great was he for us?
@belovedrock.
@belovedrock. 6 лет назад
Surfer 10, Carter was unlucky. He just happened to be president when the Iranians revolted against the corrupt and dictatorial Shah regime, a regime installed by the US and Britain. Unfortunately, many Iranians, including moderates, believed Khomeini when he said he just wanted to end corruption, but would otherwise let people live their lives as they liked. When they found out this wasn't the case, it was too late. As a person who is not American and who does not and has never lived in the US, I can tell you that Carter, Obama, and possibly Clinton are much more respected in the rest of the western world than Trump, the Bushes, or Reagan. Do you see a pattern? The US is much further to the right than other countries. It's not that they don't have their fans. It's just that they are much smaller minorities.
