Jimmy Fortune called in to the Coffee, Country & Cody on April 27, 2020. Jimmy called to remember and honor the passing of his friend, Harold Reid, who was also a member of The Statler Brothers.
No Jimmy! The reason the fans accepted you was because you fit in with them very well! I was one that did not want to ever hear the statlers without Lew! Then I heard you with them. I was so shocked! It was fabulous! Harold is sadly missed. My father looked like Roy Clark and his voice was much like Harold!!
Got to see Cash with them behind him. Very fond memory of my youth. Cash was a big man, larger in person than what tv led me to believe, broad shoulders and tall. June was there. Gordon Terry. Great memories. Amazingly enough, though they were all so very good, my opinion is Phil was the unsung glue. You could never detect one syllable he sang, which is perfect for a baritone singer. It’s the hardest part to sing and he never missed one note. Never. He had the part that was not glamorous or show stopping but WAS the glue that made them so smooth.
Gosh I grew up on the Statlers. I've seen them every year since I was 5 and they are no longer touring. I'm sure with loss of Harold and the ages of the group they decided to not tour. However I think Will and Langdon are carrying on not just saluting the Statlers and playing their own music. Will is Harold's son and Langdon is Don's son. They play all over but also have truck time that is streamed but they play live music. To all of the people who miss the Statlers I completely understand. They were real people who have a great deal of success and everything they did seem to turn to the Lord. Never a concert without a gospel song and just an entertaining group who didn't use substances stayed the course and are still best friends to this day
@@alexbaker2615 They play under the name Wilson Fairchild. Its their middle names. They have a great song about called Statler brothers a tribute. Hope you like it

I bet that my daddy was standing at the pearly gates jumping up and down like a child that day. He loved the Statler Brothers so much. He passed that love down to me. Nobody I know listens to them. All of my sisters run when I turn it on. IDC. I love them.
My favorite group. Me Mama my best friend and her husband saw them in concert on their farewell tour. Mama and Don are both gome now. But wow, what memories.
that was a wonderful interview learning more about his joining the statler brothers. i can not understand how 2 people thought this was a bad interview, etc. that's their problem not jimmy's or the interviewer! jimmy, love my daily JIMMY JAMS with you and your guests!! so glad the statler's hired you after lew had to retire due to his serious health problems. betty gordon, ames, iowa, fan forever!
I went to the Glace Bay Forum to see J. CASH. Never heard of the Statlers. Out they came { app. 1967 } WOW..........! Harold was the FRONT MAN & with THAT VOICE. He "SHOOK the FORUM" . hahahaha He is missed..........as is Lew Dewitt. R.I.P. BOTH
I grew up listening to the Statler Brothers. Five of the best entertainers I've had the privilege to see in person. The one I remember is a concert in Belleville Kansas. The stage was in the middle of a dirt track. 50yards away. They made their first few songs and then Harold said to the crowd "IF they were having mule race, you people would be closer to the jack asses than you are us. Immediately people were running around finding patch cords for the microphones. All four of the Statlers crawled up on the barrier wall, hung on the chain link fence with one hand, microphone in the other. The rest of that show, and the show later the same evening. This was probably '83-'84. True entertainment like they had is very rare, if non existant these days. The only modern group I'll listen too anymore is Homefree.
I, too, got to experience riding in a prison bus with Harold cracking jokes as we went up the hill to Folsom Prison on Jan 12, 1968. I was just a reporter who got to witness history being made the next day with the Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison concert. If Harold had not been a great singer he could have been a famous standup comedian!
When I die my family is being forced to play amazing grace done by the Statler Brothers, then after they're all good and sad bed of roses is gonna start playing. Lol. I came from a long line of hypocrites. Lol lol lol
@@shelliecollier7017actually they are both different styles of tenors.....so one is really no better than the other....they both sing good...lee was more of a stylist.....and Jimmy is just pure tenor...n both brought their talent the the statlers

Harold reid was one of the best base singers that i ever heard sing,also had a great personality,and a kind careing heart,he offered to give george yants one of his kidneys,rip harold and keep singing in heaven until we meet again.
