All these comments are making me mental. Jimmy and Kerry are friends and have a huge history together, they often talk about it on his show. He's a TV personality and has acted before. Everyone relax.
Great people, great interview!! Kerry doesn't let her celebrity limit her voice politically and I respect that! She has done so much in this world and deserves nothing less than the best. Jimmy and her are friends and I think they both did a great job.
Im rewatching this because I love how she at 4:06 talks about women like Rita and Diane, who defied mainstream standards and makes me realize we need more role models like that now
A lot of the people commenting on these two being paired up are really over thinking it. If you watch them together on his show they have a clear rapport. They were probably matched because they are friends.
It seems random to pair her with a talk show host. Now it just feels like a talk show interview but with Kerry asking Jimmy questions. It is called Actors on Actors for a reason. Mindy Kaling was paired with Conan. Would make more sense to put Mindy and Kerry together instead, no?
Yes but Mindy and Conan made for an excellent conversation, one of the best by Variety I thought... You don't always have to be in the same profession to connect to someone else.
Alice Fuller i thought i was the only one who noticed they had no chemistry. That guy is like jane fonda, they both have this corporate poker face on and he tries to say something he thinks is funny and Kerry is being polite.Kerry should have been paired with Veola Davis , both women have completely different personalities and are articulate. This would haveen more fun and intellectual.
Lechiffresix six - They don't hand over late night shows to people who aren't articulate. They both agreed to this, so I'm sure they have some repoire (though I kind of agree, its not showing all that much on this clip).
No offence to Jimmy, but this was unfair for Kerry Washington. She is one of the best actresses out there and she should have been paired with a real Actor not a talk show host. Now go watch Taraji P Henson and Ryan Reynolds you will get what i mean. Their conversation is so rich when reflecting their career experiences.
Agree or disagree, I feel like the fact they paired these 2 was extremely disrespectful to Kerry. She's worked extremely hard so the fact that they didn't pair her with another actor simply says "Hey we got 2 more black actresses this year so now we can treat you like crap!"
anthony richardson - Wow! If you can find racial transgression in the decision to pair these two for a meaningless 10 min skit, you are as hopeless as a 70 yr old white republican from South Carolina.
80teg First off its not a skit, its an interview. Second, the reason I said that is because, to me, it seems very unfitting that all the actors and actresses including viola and taraji were afforded the opportunity to speak with other actors and actually discuss their love of the craft. The fact that they paired kerry with jimmy was unfair to both of them because as an actor and talkshow host they don't go through same trials and share the same interests other than whats on the surface of being a "celebrity". So I felt like this was enforcing the theory that black actors and actresses are expendable. I will say I don't know the whole story of why she couldn't paired with another actor(if there is a valid reason I apologize to Variety) but that was just my initial reaction.
anthony richardson - Your last sentence is part of my point; Im sure Variety gave both Jimmy and Kerry a choice of whom they wanted to be paired with, and both decided the other was a good person to share the 10 mins with. I'm not arguing against the struggles and relatively limited opportunities people of color are presented with (I'm the son of an immigrant single mother, so I know first hand what that life entails), but I doubt being paired up with the second most powerful late night host on TV is an apt example of inequality. ps- all actors are expendable; longevity in their field is as dependent on connections and reputation as a lot of other fields.... it's just more obvious within Hollywood because they are in the limelight.
Outside of his more immediately recognizable role as a talk show host, he actually has over 40 films and tv shows to his credit. Oprah has far less and Diana Ross even fewer, but it doesn't make them any less actors than Kerry. This was a nice pairing of two peers who are also friendly acquaintances.
