I can see jimmy demonstrating his flick and back hand this way because it is more of a realistic game throw. In a game you have an active mark and the higher level of play the more the mark impacts a thrower if you tried franks way it is a cleaner nicer well formed but in a game situation you’d never get a throw off the step out should be taught more and maybe jimmy leans directly to his right instead of stepping up with his flicks for matter of form, I think both throwers are talented, anyone looking to play high level ultimate should mirror jimmy and not so much frank strictly for game situations

Frank's arm movement is a problem for contact fouls in my opinion ?

The Ultimate geek in me loved this video. I think the idea that the way we've been taught (and teach others) how to throw a forehand was completely shattered! Perhaps the key is to be able to throw both ways depending on the situation? Thanks Felix, love your vids :)

The flair in Mickle’s windup is one of my pet peeves as a coach. Slows down release, undercuts power and indicates on the easier side to foot block. He’s already so good, imagine if he smoothed out that pathing.

Hahahaha what a funny guy making such comparisons. Ultimate throws and disc golf throws are very different. Anyway, It's really nice to see the common angles of the shoulders, core, forearms, and wrists. Basically, we try to maintain this form while pivoting to throw around the mark.

This was a nice start Would appreciate a real analysis on this; this was kind of just some basic observations. Interested how the observed differences would impact gameplay, which was hinted at a few times here

Interested to see what Frank's throw looks like "in-game" (also Jimmy's). Do you have sufficient stock footage of either to show if there is a patern that is repeated in certain situations and how this translates to this footage of "just practice throws - unmarked". I would like to see him (Frank) doing it after he's run hard and/or has a straight up force on, or is trying to break the mark with that throw. Either throw IMHO is ok for a quick flow offence where there is little to no mark on. I'm not absolutely convinced that there is one better way to throw the disc, however there are some common principles for any throw lot's of rotation on the disc at release (gained through both wrist snap and pressure of fingers on the inside rim of the disc which has been built up through the motion of initially flicking the disc and cocking the wrist in the backward wind-up part of the throw), outside edge of the disc down, inertial rotation of the body, slingshot like throw with elbow in front of wrist as it comes through past the body into a snap of the wrist at release.

If stepping out makes you unbalanced, then it is only a matter of muscle, and balance-practice.

Found your channel yesterday. Love all the analysis you do!

Frank is so static. The release ponot is so close to the nonpivot point. Easy to block. His throw is only useful when defence is garbage. So virtually never. (Or of course recreational games are excluded.)

BTW the wind-up disc-flatness is an important point.

Is very interesting seeing how the technique of frank allows him to throw with both hands, I think I have to learn that “kind” of throw. Really interesting video, like!

I think Nethercutt's mechanics are worth analyzing. Dude has a 70 yard bomb with no step out at 3:52 of this AUDL highlight reel, with a mark! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mhtKJl8couU.html
