I actually caught that when i was a kid and always figured he was some kind of pervert. I always figured he had some weird duck fetish since his obsession bordered on the sexual and then there were lines like you mentioned. I loved the guy despite his weird kinks.
Probably because it’s not going for 100% real life looking 3-D animation, but instead a more like caricatures made 3-D. Honestly reminds me of drawings we’d get from fairs and festivals when I was a kid.
if it weren't for season of rot, I'd disagree and say Patrick is better. I can think of other great stupid friend characters but I'll admit I rarely remember them as well as I do Sheen.
@@sukunasgaylover I honestly don't count that because despite being the same character, its a different show. By that point i think its something else if its someone else's work. It's not like say, Patrick Star getting significantly worse in later seasons of the same show.
anyone remember where Jimmy's evil clone makes an evil Earth where Evil-Hugh has like a dozen of duck heads mounted on a wall and boasts how he shot them? I loved that.
The Australia thing is debatable, some belive it's a continent, some believe it's part of the continent of oceania. They teach different things in different countries
@@ianr.navahuber2195 Even if Australia is almost all the continent, is still part of Oceania. A continent isn't suppose to be just a country, and a country can be part of two continents like Russia.
Literally one thing that I really appreciate about Jimmy Nutron is that Jimmy and Cindy's mutual crushes in later seasons are actually EXPLAINABLE because their mutual hatred was deleted by their friends in the brainswapping episode. It's never said out loud, it's never brought up specifically, but it makes a lot of sense.
Jim: "Sometimes its a heavy burden being a man of science" Sheen: "I know what you mean Jimmy. Thats why I decided early on to sabotage my hightly scientific mind with cartoons and sugar" this line is somehow so fucking relatable that I had to rewind it several times to numb myself of the hilariousness. But then I got depressing Rick and Morty vibes.
I feel like thinking about it too much would make it nightmarishly sad, but I was exactly like Sheen growing up and now I'm like, "Wait a minute, he was smart too? And then either something happened to have him conclude that, "Being smart is a heavy burden," and he found cartoons and sugar or he just decided that on his own.
I remember watching it for the first time in over a decade, almost with anticipation of it being so cheesy and "OMG I can't believe I used to like this as a kid.", and... I couldn't. I couldn't find a reason not to like it.
Just like Wreck it Ralph, this is a show that needed to be in 3D in my opinion. The gadgets wouldn't have been as interesting or cool to look at if it was hand-drawn. Seems like a minor detail but the gadgets actually play a giant role in the show.
Exactly. Plus considering that D.N.A. Productions worked with peanut budgets, I'm actually happy this show wasn't hand drawn because it's charming in 3D.
Really the only Jimmy Neutron characters that didn't translate well into the Fairly Odd Parents universe were Carl and Calamitous with the glasses, and Dot Eyes.
I’ve heard that by the time they made Power Hour 2 and 3, the studio that animated Jimmy Neutron had had to lay off the vast majority of their modeling department due to severe financial trouble, which is why the models for FoP characters in those specials look even worse than Timmy did in Power Hour 1. Cosmo and Wanda notwithstanding, since they were just modified versions of Timmy’s model. Apparently the intended plots had to be rewritten to accommodate these limitations.
@@rassilontdavros3004 It is true that DNA Productions was going through financial difficulties after the bad box office performance of the Ant Bully, which is the reason why the majority of Jimmy Timmy Power Hour part 3 takes place in 2D.
"So that an animated movie cannot get nominated for best picture" James cameroon: what if I make my animated movie really like a movie with few live action actors in it?
I Legitimately Enjoyed this cartoon; I'm Glad to hear you say good things about the show as a whole; Even though it's Open-Source CGI Animated, and Has one of your biggest pet peeves in American Media: The DumbASH Dad; and even though He's another example of that trope you hate so much; Hugh Neutron Still ends up being one of the most FORGIVABLE examples of that Trope for you Since: A. Whenever he unintentionally Causes Problems for his son it's mostly part of the plot and not a Random One-off Joke B. It's made very VERY clear in Several of the show's episodes that He Legitimately Cares for His Son, and wants to help him & see him succeed(He's Not abusive to him like Homer is to Bart, or Peter is to Meg; Nor is he Neglective towards Jimmy like Timmy Turner's Dad is to Timmy) C. More often than not; Hugh is mostly Harmless D. Hugh DOESN'T pull random Interests out of his Butt; He has 2 Main Consistent Interests throughout the show that stick with him as defining traits; His Love of Ducks, and his Affinity for Pie; and it makes sense for his character to be involved and go out of his way to care for Ducks, and/or Obtain Pie
Jimmy Neutron is not my favorite series off all the time. But definitely a series that I damned a lot I actually learned a lot of things through this series
Jimmy is a more relatable boy genius than Dexter. The latter felt more like an adult in a kids body with some kind of sophisticated accent and had this kind of bleakness to him, as well as the show overall. Jimmy has more of a personality beyond his genius that I felt was appropriate for his age, not to mention he was into more than just math and science, whereas Dexter seemed to live in his laboratory world.
Oh yeah, the Fairly Odd Parents characters in Jimmy Neutron looked godawful, on the other hand the Jimmy Neutron characters looked decently good in Fairly Odd Parents. Probably why the crossovers spent much more time on the Fairly Odd Parents universe.
It is interesting to note that DNA Productions was going through financial difficulties after the bad box office performance of the Ant Bully, which is the reason why the majority of Jimmy Timmy Power Hour part 3 takes place in 2D.
@@ShadowWolfRising As far as I can tell from the images, it's referring to the Shadow Realm from the 4Kids dub of Yu-Gi-Oh, which exists as a substitute for death: instead of dying, characters are "sent to the shadow realm". Idk why Hugh Neutron is saying it. Memes are often formed when an in-joke is widely spread and deprived of its context.
Same. in fact I personally hated Dexter's Laboratory, mainly because I find Dexter himself to be so obnoxiously annoying to listen to & Deedee isn't that much better either. Dexter's parents & Mandark were honestly the only highlights of the show to me, especially Mandark.
The problem with this show that I had at the time is that Jimmy is supposed to be a genius. But he is usually framed as being in the wrong. You can do that with like hard science fiction where brilliant minds are led astray by hubris. But Jimmy Neutron never really rises to that level. His failings are not so much do to hubris, as they are due to not considering the ramifications of his actions. But looking back on it, its something that he has in common with his dad Hugh. They are both overly goal oriented. They know what they want, and do whatever they see as necessary to get it. When others try to bring up reasons why its not worth the cost or the risk, they brush them off because that is not goal oriented thinking. Maybe this show is actually better than I remember.
Interesting insight. Also keep in mind that genius or not, Jimmy’s still a child. While he might technically be incredibly knowledgeable and intelligent, kids still have a lot of issues with planning ahead and fully being aware of the consequences of their own actions. An average kid may be focused on whether they can do a backflip in the classroom or if they can get away with eating the entire box of gushers in one sitting. But they won’t think that hard about whether they should. Jimmys still a kid but he’s also a kid with a lab.
I believe it's always established that Jimmy is very adept at the method but not the planning or even moral questions, because he's a child. If he could actually foresee everything and outsmart everyone, the show wouldn't exist because such a premise is just boring.
@@fernandobanda5734 I think that that is a problem with writing geniuses as the protagonist in general. If the protagonist can accurately foresee the consequences of their actions, then the show is boring. But if they are supposed to be a genius, and can't foresee the consequences of their actions, then it strains characterization and suspension of disbelief.
@@Sewblon As long as you don't understand "genius" in the omnipotent sense, I don't think it's bad at all. "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Scientifically Gifted But Still Immature" doesn't roll off the tongue.
I remember watching the crossover this had with The Fairly OddParents and since then I watched a few episodes and the movie. I even grew accustomed to the memes online and all the reviewers talking about it. I even molded part of the movie's dialogue into a story that crossed over with a fictional Thomas fanfic of mine! But anyways I'm glad you reviewed this even if it was out of chronological order. Next time what I thought he was going to do today:ChalkZone! Just be thankful it's extending into January. Something to end this decade and start the next decade!
I'll always remember that episode where Jimmy animates an entire fast food reatraunt that goes haywire and starts to force-feed everyone. He rewires his robo-dog's tastebuds and tell the AI it's hungry. When it scans Gidar's tongue he gathers that Godar would like to eat some plasma straight outta the sun's core He makes the reatraunt fly into the sun!
I like how Jimmy Neutron got a lot of talented voice actors like Jim Cummings, Rob Paulsen, Tom Kenny and Christian Slater. They even got Agents Of Shield actress Ming-Na Wen to guest star. Even talented comedian Tim Allen, the voice or Buzz Lightyear voiced Meldar in the special Win Lose and Kaboom.
I think the biggest missed opportunity for the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour trilogy was the fact that Carl Wheezer didn’t meet Mark Chang. Why would this be amazing? They’re both voiced by Rob Paulson, them meeting would’ve been hilarious!
@@maxmeidl4909 It is interesting to note that Jimmy Timmy Power Hour part 3 mostly takes place in 2D because of DNA Productions going out of business after the financial failure of the Ant Bully.
This was one of my favorites as a kid, but my older brother hated it. He had a fear of brains (er... that is, seeing or talking about the organ, not a fear of intellect), and since the "brain blast" sequence was every episode, I had to avoid this show when he was around.
Youre saying it like it were a bad thing XD, plus Sheen is actually way more scarier than Tetsuo if you think about it Its pretty neat when a cartoon does an ACTUAL anime parody and not just the cliche stupid ones (just people talking weird and flashu colors)
According to the show's page on The Other Wiki, there was going to be a fourth season, which would've been Darker and Edgier. First, the season premiere episode "Deep Impacts" would've shown Jimmy's Final Battle with Evil Jimmy. Another episode would feature Cindy and Betty interacting with each other, Cindy and Jimmy would've finally become a couple, and Nick, who was basically Demoted to Extra in the show, would've gotten a larger role. Finally, there were going to be more appearances from the League Of Villains.
In all honesty looking back,I'm surprised there wasn't an episode where The town ends up hating Jimmy and or Jimmy decides to give up his inventions because whenever he creates something,it almost always backfires and causing mass chaos.
Ah Jimmy Neutron was yet another fav Nicktoon that me and mine my brother really enjoyed watching as kids together. The series was weird but in a good way also being pretty good with its crazy stories, also this cartoon never fails to manage to crack me up with its comedy. Like there are still a real good numbers of episodes that can still get a laugh out of me to this day.
I bet you LOVE Total Drama Island. Seeing as how you said, "I'm a sucker for Survivor paradies." I would love to see a video like this but talking about TDI. ^_^
@@shizuwolf Yeah, the first season was a brilliant parody, but after that it was copying the formula without actually understanding why it was loved in the first place.
I believe he does give TDI a lot of props but then pans the other seasons and then he ragged on drawn together because while TDI was survival, Drawn together was the jersey shore of adult cartoons I remember TDI very vividly as this suspenseful, funny and engrossing drama (heh). And then that magic just got whisked away when they rebooted the nonesense for the next season. I suppose that makes it a one trick pony but if they had never made anything outside of TDI, I think people would’ve though of that show more fondly.
Shame it didn’t have an ending cause DNA productions went out of business. I can tell you what season four would have done. The evil clone was going to have a third episode, Jimmy and Cindy’s would have been dating. Nick would have been added to the main cast and no longer just a recurring background character. And the tone would have been darker. I spoke to Debi Darryberry in 2017 and at the time she spoke with John A Davis about a revival and that they were considering it but considering that was two and a half years ago and nothing has been announced I don’t think it’s happening anymore
WIN LOSE OR KABOOM BLEW MY MIND AS A KID OMG I remember hearing the host's voice and immediately thinking of Buzz Lightyear Come to find out that, indeed, they're voiced by the same guy!
The most random Sheen quote that I remember is he walks up to Cindy and says something like "I was picking a scab off my elbow and it fell off and landed in your hair. Can I have it back?"
5:08-Sheen's Brain is probably one of my favorite episodes of Neutron, since I liked how Jimmy's invention on Sheen's head that makes him a genius turns Sheen into a control freak bent on wrecking chaos, even his line is frecking disturbing when his voice becomes demonic when he screams ATTENTION,RETROVILLE!!!!!!!
Part of the reason why I used to like/still like Jimmy Neutron is all the pop culture references (the cloning episode parodying the walking scene from Reservoir Dogs, One of the clones being richard simmons, Jimmy talking about taking about taking Keanu Reeves acting classes and talking like Ted, etc.)
I loved Win Lose and Kaboom. Whoever decided to cast Tim Allen as a villain deserved a friggin raise. He stole every scene he was in. Also the Jet Fusion and Attack of the Twonkies games weren't half bad. I really do wish Nick would release the complete series on DVD
I just want to let you know, I had this video paused so I could watch it later, and during the middle of the night the video somehow started and I was awoken to the "Slap Slap Slap Clap Clap Clap" song in a cold sweat. Easily the top 10 most terrifying experiences of my life.
Michael Segal haha it’s an ensemble preformed in front of the band teachers for a grade. It’s our final... keep in mind that I’ve only been playing flute for five months, most have played since elementary school. Yep I’m gonna fail...
Definitely a solid cartoon. It may not be my favorite, but it's definitely a top 5 for me in Nicktoons. The CGI did its purpose and with little exception, didn't try to go overboard and wow the audience. It was a tool that was used, not really a gimmick. It's a comfort show for me when it was airing. I wouldn't mind at all seeing re-runs on tv again. It was played a lot, but not really to the point where I hated an episode. It may be just me, but I find it special when a show's re-runs are spread out just enough so you don't keep seeing episode 5 over and over and over again. (nothing special about episode 5, just a random number)
I loved this show as a kid, everyone I knew did, but as an adult I'd kind of written it off. Until I recently started rewatching it. And damn, it holds up so well
Jimmy Neutron is definitely a favorite of mine. Don’t even get me started on how much I loved the pilot movie. Even watching it years and years later it’s still as enjoyable as I remember.
Sean is also an example of why spin-offs centered around the comic relief tend not to work, because you need something to get a relief from. Characters like Sean in their strangeness and memetic aspects work best in small bites, like the Minions in Despicable Me, when you put them front and center you see why they work better in the background or for gags.
I’m glad you reviewed this cartoon for your nick-o-Rama series, it’s one of your better nick-o-Rama reviews honestly. Jimmy Neutron is without a doubt my favorite cartoon/nicktoon of all time, and it was great hearing all of the stuff you had to say about it, . You said the many flaws it has, and your overall experience with the show, and it was perfect, I agree with all of your points in the show! I definitely do think that the animation in the show has aged very poorly, but it still looks great and I like it because of its 3D aesthetic it has going for it, and the 3D animation set it apart from the many nicktoons airing at the time. Being the first 3D animated nicktoon, it’s 3D animation is a true pleasure, while still feeling dated, I can say that the character movements and expressions was very much so improved in season 3, compared to season 1s stiff character movement and expressionless faces (the show felt more muted in season 1). I have noticed that there are many animation errors in the show, but honestly it’s funny to me, not really a bother, I mean it was an early 3D animated show, I was expecting animation errors honestly. I also really like how you talked about jimmys weird design, as I highly agree and Jimmys Design is very strange and weird, and would say it honestly looks better in 2D, but jimmy in general design is fine, and his little curl in his hair is very recognizable, and his design isn’t no where near as dreadful as like “butt ugly martains”. The characters are very great and distinct with their own unique personalities, while they maybe simple tropes of characters, like the two idiot friends, the love/hate girl and the stupid dad, they are indeed great takes on them, and are forgiven since they are very rememberable since the show is known to be a cult classic by most (I also like the 5 main characters colored clothes and seeing them all on one screen makes them feel like the belong together and the mesh well, with Jimmys Red Shirt, Sheens Blue, Carls Orange/Yellow, Cindys Green, and Libbys Pink/Orange, it reminds me of the Scooby Doo Gang color scheme almost.) Hugh is one of my favorite characters in the show (practically my absolute favorite) Since he is a very caring dad, and is very distinct then just being the dumb dad trope. But overall, I love this show a lot, it holds a true deep place in my childhood and I had so much memories with this show, and it made me laugh a ton. And while I get that people only talk about it for the memes, I truly care about this show, and the show overall is pretty under appreciated compared to the others, though it’s very known. I do think people should give the show a try since it is a great cartoon, and I think you should start with the movie if you want to binge watch the show, since the movie is basically the introduction of the characters. I truly hope this show gets a proper return of sorts, maybe a ACTUAL GOOD reboot series, or a Netflix Movie like Rocko or Invader Zim (Two other very amazing shows I love) since a new movie would be Perfect for Jimmy Neutron, or any revival of any sorts, it’s a golden gem of Nickelodeon and will always be my favorite nicktoon! :D
I always enjoyed this show! Also, looking back, I feel sad with "Sorry Wrong Era" when Sheen calls out "Good luck with evolving" to his adoptive Pteranodon siblings...because pterosaurs went extinct before they could get any further ;_;
Invader ZIM became my favorite nick toon when I got older. Jimmy Neutron was favorite nicktoon when I was a kid. I binged the hell out of this cartoon all the time and always watched the movie when Nick aired it on TV. It’s still a solid even though it’s just known for memes now.
I'm pretty sure that the Jimmy Neutron episode about him becoming stupid was completely different from the Dexter's Lab episode. In Dexter's Lab, he became stupid by accident as a result of burning himself out and pretty much "overloading" his brain by working so hard. In Jimmy Neutron, he creates a machine to make himself dumber because of how everyone treats him. Pretty significant contrast in my opinion.
