@@brockr4377 yeah as far as who is the best , to certain degree it’s subjective. Blackmore is good, another one would be Jeff Beck who is a certainly a notable mention. I think Clapton is one of the greatest too. I think why I like Page the best is because he was so versatile.. hard core lead , 12 string, double neck playing.. just all around a great musician /guitarist. IMHO
The original LP Gods... Actually I think it was more that in those early days you could find the guitars, they would circulate and so the right soul mate LP found the right players in many cases. The right one for you might be the particular guitar 5 people didn't bond with. That's hard to do now, you can't circulate them casually once they become more than instruments & become objects of money, cult and ego status. It kind of demoralizes the pure musical prospect of having such a guitar as they are far too great a liability to gig and enjoy anymore. Historics seem like a grand rip off, trading on the cult status of the real thing.
@@darth550 YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.... The guy goes to lay the guitar down in the case, and Page wildly "yanks it back" away from him!!!! Yeah!!! I saw that!!!! DID EVERYBODY ELSE SEE THAT???
Exactly Joe Walsk gave him that Les Paul! You can also hear this from Clapton the British guitar players had to come to America to get Strats and LesPauls they weren’t readily available I. Those early years in the UK. So Clapton talks about his struggle to get a strat when they first came on in rock and roll!
David Gilmour. Page gets way too much credit for one great guitar solo. He's got nothing after Stairway. Great with riffs but that's it. Very sloppy player.
The neck was shaved at Lay’s Guitar shop in Kenmore Ohio. They are still in business and still do great work. Cool to think a small piece of rock history passed through a tiny guitar shop in nowhere Ohio.
Jimmy Page...damn!!! My favorite guitarist of my favorite band. Just love his intellect, such a brilliant thinker...no doubt one of the reasons he was such a great composer.
You know JP is passionate about his profession when he holds his instrument in such high regards, it shows that he respects what's been given to him and understands that it was no mere coincidence.
saw him with the Firm and I couldnt get over the fact that when he played it was more like a force than notes. I mean I dont care if you were in the bathroom or at the concession there was this inescapable energy.I didnt go to the show as a Zep worshipper or anything but goddamn after that this dude is just amazing
LOL, YES,,,,, JIMMY WAS "SELECTED" BY FORCES WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND. THE LES PAUL GUITAR WAS MADE FOR HIM TO MASTER, TO CHANNEL COSMIC FORCES FROM DEEP IN CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE ,,, FOR THE PLEASURE OF HUMANS THAT WERE CHOSEN TO BE TUNED IN,,,,,,,, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,,,, LOLS!!! A BEAUTIFUL GIFT TO US ALL ANYWAY.
I love the way Joe Walsh's name comes up again and again. He's a great guy, fantastic guitarist and musician. Nice to hear Page himself refer to their shared guitar history.
Even before Joe was in the James Gang, he was a real guitar tech guy. He knew what circuitry to add to guitars and amps too, to make them sound lots better.
I'd really like to talk to this guy just for an hour…..so much experience and knowledge and feel….. True Legend and one of the last ones alive. One of my favourite humans.
This Guitar , or the Gibson Jimmy Page Signature , which was made in the 90´s is Still a Unreachable Dream guitar for Me , The "holy grail" of Rock Axes , NOT only for it´s Legendary Background , it has also VERY special Wirings , Slim , fast Neck , and it Looks Tremendiously AWESOME
I had a chance to play the page years ago when it hit the music store. It had already been purchased before it showed up, but I was a regular and the sales rep liked me. Easily the best gibson i've ever put my hands on.
I have been in the same room as him and Robert Plant (1998). It was one of the best moments of my life....That and being in the same room as Paul McCartney (2004).
I really like the fact that Mr. Page would land his precious guitar, so that it can be replicated. That's a very generous thing to do, it will allow others to be able to play on a guitar used by a legend of RnR.
He has the simple but difficult to live out combination of working really hard and having a lot of talent. Most people dont have either of these going on, but really successful people have both talent and work hard
for anyone wondering that "other brand" guitar that he mentioned (the one he played in the Yardbirds and the early days of Zeppelin) is a 1959 Fender Telecaster. it can be heard on everything Jimmy did with the Yardbirds, all of the first Zeppelin album (and ive been told the into to Whole Lotta Love, but i'll have to check on that), and Zeppelins early tours (you can find footage of it here on youtube)
He bought the guitar from Joe Walsh back in 1969 when the James Gang were touring. He paid a few hundred or so for it. The neck was already sanded down before he got it.
Austin Bilbro '59 bursts were selling for a few hundred in the 60s, Peter Green paid $300 for his one in the late 60s, then sold it onto Moore for the same price he paid for it.
There's so many different stories regarding this guitar floating around, but $300 was the asking price for a burst back then, when they first came out in 58 you could buy one new with the case for $300. But back then $300 was the equivalent of $2,455.28 in todays money, so it was still a lot of cash.
I own JPP 713 since new in 2006 and I will never sell it. It’s been on most of my bands’ albums and will be a part of my new band and is my only electric I will play. It’s insanely versatile. Switch in treble with knob up sounds like a Tele-middle is out of phase like Peter Green as he said -I can get a strat neck notch sound in the right spot on tone knob. The regular LP settings all rule. When I bought it I compared to it a 59 ES 345 with PAFs and the neck PU stood toe to toe. It’s probably the best work Gibson Custom ever did -an opinion shared my many. Only 860 were made.
PROBABLY THE ONLY GUITAR PLAYER TO OWN TWO LES PAUL'S A 58 AND A 59 THEY BOTH ARE TRULY PRICELESS INSTRUMENTS TO ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS & PERFORMERS EVER TO LIVE
I finally got a reproduction that has the sound accusticlly so I put 50's pickups and Volume and now I can see why everyone liked these years of guitar. I prefer grover tuners, I just don't like plastic on a tuner, and the finer gear I feel is more stable.
This is the first, and only time I have ever heard jimmy page mention peter greens name . Page and green are my two favourite guitarists . I have always wondered if they knew each other or ever jammed together. Would love to hear what page thinks of Peter greens playing .
Jimmy has mentioned Peter a few times over the years. In one interview Jimmy said Black dog was inspired by Oh well. What he meant was the spoken part going into the main riff each time.
That 'Coil Split" was on his #2 not this one .. This one here (#1) only has the Phase Reversal . It was done WAY AFTER led Zeppelin split , in 1999 i think. #2 way modified in the early 80's
Any guitar that Jimmy would have chosen would have been "the guitar" and that is what he is trying to say. There is nothing special about this guitar other then the fact that it's been with him for many years and he has used it on many recordings. It's the man that made guitar special.
Wow! This guitar is legendary! Jimmy Page is the quintessential guitar GOD who has influenced so many out there including me! Thanks for posting this video! It is fascinating listening to Jimmy talk about how he acquired this guitar from Joe Walsh, another legendary guitarist! This is the reason why I have a Les Paul!
Holy Shaaaat!! The Holy Grail. They didn’t mention that Joe Walsh actually gave that guitar to Jimmy. Joe, well known for tinkering and doing his own customizations on his axes, had shaved down the neck. A bit too much for his own liking. Jimmy had basically done everything on his Tele up to that point, and by chance, the neck felt made for his hands. Of course, the rest is history
That guitar is so iconic to me. It started my love for guitars and guitar playing watching this being used on stage in the Song Remains The Same. Can only imagine the appraisal price of that girl geesh. 🎸 #Zoso
This interview: The most I've ever heard him go on about, anything! A Les Paul of course! Sounded like someone was going to produce that instrument 🎸 for sales. Going to research this further. Great Great piece! Thanks 🙏👍
Pretty cool that Jimmy's Telecaster which he used throughout The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin came from Jeff Beck, and his main Les Paul which was used for every other Zep album came from Joe Walsh.
Joe Walsh gave Page to get his #1; Joe Walsh also gave Pete Townshend his Gretsch 6120 and Fender Bandmaster combo that defined the Who’s Next tone and Pete’s tone on record for the rest of his career. very Serendipitous of mr Walsh.
I feel the same way about this man as others feel about Bach or Beethoven.... one day the most expensive guitar in the world will have been played by his hands.... I promise
That’s the thing about Page. He still owns all of the guitars that he’s associated with. My understanding is that EVERY single one he owns is worth more than 1 million. As of right now, the most expensive guitar in history is the “Reach for Asia Guitar”, which went for 2.7 million. Jimi Hendrix’s Woodstock strat went for 2 million. Clapton’s Blackie for 950 grand. If Page’s CHEAPEST guitars are at least 1 million. Then you can imagine what the actual value of his Gibson Les Paul, 12 String, and Dragon Telecaster are. No one has ever been able to actually own a major Page guitar since Page himself. If you even look at the Dragon Telecaster for example. It was ALSO owned by Jeff Beck, before he gave it to Jimmy. The combined value between those 3 guitars alone is going to be fucking unreal. That’s before we even bring in his Danoelectric, which he used to record Kashmir. Or any of his Acoustics.
"I inherited a guitar from Jeff Beck, which was The Yardbirds guitar. Which was another brand, i might add..." Ha what a pro. You could feel the man from Gibson holding his breath.
This video was I think back in the mid 90's, he's still got some black hair here, now he's old and grey....he's still one of the classic and the best rock guitar player of all time, though...we love you Jimmy Page...:)
BRUCE ALCORIZA, did you even bother to read the text at the very beginning of this video? London, England 17th November 2003, this was prior to the guitar being taken away to Gibson for scanning to be reissued in the 2004 Custom Authentic JP#1 model.
You're stupid ! This is not 2003...the uploader of this video is wrong, obviously. Just look at the image of the video itself. You're judgment is wrong, so shut the fuck up ! Do some fucking research first instead of just going by what the uploader said it is 2003, anybody could just type what year it is, but in reality, if you want to post something like this, it's about the ACCURACY of the event that matters, ENOUGH SAID !
BRUCE ALCORIZA lmao, you need to chill out, fucking keyboard warrior! Jimmy Page in 2003, this video was shot prior to the 2004 custom authentic JP#1, you need to do the research! www.google.co.uk/search?q=jimmy+page+in+2003&client=ms-android-htc-rev&prmd=inv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj69r2azs7RAhXIORoKHaD8B4cQ_AUIBygB&biw=360&bih=559#imgrc=DQ-wOTlGUPbVhM%3A
