He’s such an amazing man. I agree 100 percent. That I lived when he did. I wish I would have been a bit older and really watched them in concerts. During their time. I was a little late. But I learned more about them through music mags. That’s what was amazing 12:44am
Jimmy Page is the driving, organizing, technical force behind Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant, John Bonham, JPJ, all great artist-that Jimmy surrounded himself with and created one of the greatest bands of the 20th century. They are great artists and will go down in history.
Not surprised Koons' creativity was sparked by Zep more than any painter. Page emanates an ineffable force, an understated but kinetic coolness that allowed so many young people to be inspired directly by his musical genius/rythmic energy--and incidentally too, as a presence upon which they could project their own dreams and desires, no matter the medium.
Well, I'm glad I found this interview. Just grabbed a copy of "Jimmy Page" on Amazon thanks to it. Unlike many here, I thought the interview was just fine. Jimmy seemed relaxed and eager to explain the photographs, just wish they had gone through more. In comparison to many other interviews I've seen, I thought this was one of the better ones. Jimmy seemed to be more expressive and just more himself. Rock on Jimmy and thank you always.
Saw them once on their first tour thru Cleveland. Nobody had really heard that much about them but there we were in one of the big theatres, there was about 5 or6 hundred people there and all of a sudden (I was front row center) BAM there was Led Zepplin. When they finished their first song, Communications Breakdown. We were all welded to our seats the power had been that loud. They played for about 2 hours and by that time everybody was dancing close and the band was getting tired, but they said they wanted to leave us with a blues tune, "Since I've Been Loving You." That song will never leave my memory. Latests I saw LZ was still selling a couple of million albums per year and were up to 106 million albums produced/ Only one other higher: Beatles, 160 million sold, still selling about 3 million per year.
So many who lived through the 70's had a chance to go to one of their tours through North America and I have yet to hear of a bad concert. All phenomenal! I was only in sixth grade when they came to my city so I had to hear all about it second hand! Never tire of hearing about it though! I did get to see Plant in New Orleans in the 80's.
Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin are as iconic as any historical event in World History! How is this man so humble and has NO EGO as "THE GOAT" of Rock Bands and each individual The Epitome of their instrument! He is right in referencing Picasso! Zeppelin is Truly a Masterpiece!
I literally came across Mr. Page on a street in London in February. He was all alone. Looking in a furniture window. I tapped his shoulder and said "thank you for all the joy and happiness you've provided me" and walked off. Over my shoulder I heard "hold on". I turned around and he said to me "No. Thank you." Then I walked off.
People can debate which guitarist is the greatest: Jimmy, Jimi, Eric, etc. But when you combine Jimmy's playing, his studio work and the hundreds of songs he played on, his work with the Yardbirds, his song writing contributions, his skills as a producer and recording engineer, his visionary direction as the architect of Led Zeppelin's career path, and his continuing role as the caretaker of their legacy.......it puts Jimmy among the very top of the most important figures in the history of modern music. There are probably only a small handful of people who ever had a bigger impact on modern music....maybe just one or two. We won't see anyone like him again.
You'll never, EVER hear anything like him again. I'm sure Zeppelin will always be on the radio for future generations to hear the way music was really meant to be, but I'm so glad I lived in the time he and Led Zeppelin were walking on earth.
Jimmy Page is one of the small minority who could actually afford a Jeff Koons artwork !! 😄 btw I do know that he bought a huge Gerhard Richter painting now worth many Millions more that he paid for it !!

@@dociebiemowie915 shut up you trash, respect the greatest band of all time, you are just a piece of trash in the middle of the whole history of Led Zeppelin, if you had at least some critical sense you would know that the guys took small ideas and transformed them into true works cousins and not a simple copy, you garbage!
What a fantastic and enriching interview this is. Jimmy Page is very articulate, astute, humble, classy, funny and very down to earth. A great, creative and innovative artist, musician, composer, producer that loves his craft and his fans, who will never ceased to be loved, respected and admired by all including myself!
Jimmy is a beautiful soul. He emanates sincerity, kindness and respect. He is responsible for many generations of guitar players. I was one of those kids who would wear out my records trying to learn his guitar playing style and craft. A true musical genius.
@tortillaman2491 They were groupies , the one you are talking about , slept with Bowie , before Jimmy, they looked older , they persued the bands, even used to fight over who they were going to sleep with, its how it was then, it was the 60s and 70s, I know I was there, and had my share of guys in bands, yes and I was under age. Jimmy Page is a legend, Led Zepplin is the best rock band ever.
I saw Led Zeppelin three years in a row: 1971-1972-1973, when they were one of the most (THE most?) famous bands in the world. Those were the years I was 16-17-18, so they were a huge influence on my life. Seeing them live was quite a treat, as I still remember in me old mind...
Hard to explain what the OP may mean by their influence, but for me as a teenager with artistic interests, it was something like their lyrics and stories and musical aesthetics were proclaiming to you as a listener to open your mind and experience the magical journey of life, and as a wanna be artist upon getting into Zep as a teen in the 80s, their songs showed me how pure craftsmanship, musicianship, artistry, can reach heights that only other bands can dream about, and that why not strive for such lofty heights in my own art.
@@poopy_pants_joe1194 not at all but certainly enough. I don't know why Page wants to plagiarize other guys and not them credit. It subtracts from him rather than adds.
@@GLRange1 Not really...More like Beck was pantomiming Zeppelin with his group Beck, Bogert and Appice. (Cactus-lite?) Beck CAN'T write. "Beck's bolero", was written by PAGE, just like all of the other songs they fought over.
Man, when he starts explaning the work on Achilles Last Stand, i just thought to my self Nobody could have done that song like jimmy did, the way he built it and the details are just unbelievable, it's just an amazing peace of work,
Great guitarists become one with there instrument while playing, blocking out everything around them. Great examples besides Jimmy Page...Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix.
Ok this guy is so down to earth and modest and we feel like he's one of us and a friend really. his legacy will be forever with us and beyond. God keep him safe and healthy.
so love this band, and Jimmy Page just carries himself with such class and intelligence. Not even a shred of arrogance...and given what he has achieved, that speaks volumes as to his character. I loved how excited he was in retelling the story of singing along with Leona Lewis, just effusive in his accolades of her, and I also loved his retelling of how he was able to keep his energy up, "If you were in a band like that you just had the energy to be honest with you, because it was just so exhilarating.." And his recall of names, dates, places, faces incredible. What a fabulous interview......Only sorry I never had the chance to see them live in their hey day
based on his music, I can totally imagine him as a raving lunatic personality too! It is neat the way his demeanor here belies his ability to create thunderous sounds.
My dad was a record producer in London in the 60s and I remember him mentioning two session guitarists who were the best: Big Jim Sullivan and Little Jim.
It's amazing to hear how much enthusiasm Jimmy has for his art, it makes me sad he hasn't been interviewed more through the years because it's so refreshing.
He's not always been the best interview subject, often really circumspect or full of in jokes. This is really one of the best interviews I've seen him give
What a brilliant musician! A great time for music that won't be repeated from a rock standpoint. To think of the many great riffs Jimmy Page has created is incredible.
Interesting though...he did not even mention his contemporary genius guitarist--Jimi Hendrix--and he once claimed to have never even met Jimi...hard to believe, as the circle of British musicians around in the late 60s included Hendrix.
It's amazing to me how this band is still so much a part of my life. The feelings and memories it provokes every time i hear one of their songs. I bought my first Led zeppelin album when i was twelve i'm now fifty eight and i enjoy them as much or more now than i did then! THANK YOU!!!!
Worry not - Koons knows nothing of Jimmy and is boning himself. Jimmy is just another opportunity for him to get near a spotlight which is warmer and brighter than anything he can every sidle up to.
Oh come on.. Jimmy Always says the same things in eevery interview. The reason Jimmy tells us here new stories is because the interviewer is a real fan of his music and he is a world artist himself. It is so great to see 2 world artists talking to eachother and apreciating eachother work. Jimmy feels so comfortable together with Jeff Koons. This is such a good interview.
Jimmy page I was fortunate enough to see your shows in your prime each being as exciting to experience as the previous more of an adventure into the talent and just an experience unparalleled before by my senses it was a fabulous time and I felt your presense was the pinnacle of that era somehow still unexplainable to me in words I saw you on east coast usa in just the perfect time I thank you for being there and here now I hope you are well and continue to be inspirational intellectually spiritually physically as you are here still in this magical moment too. Bless you take care mr j.page!!🎨
Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarist who can only improvise sounds and different chord structures when he played with Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones live with Led Zeppelin. He probably played differently every night with passion, imagination and the sounds that he plays is so unexpected. After listening to those recordings from their BBC Sessions to other live performances, it seems he wanted and instinctively played amazingly with his guitar solos, riffs and other chords coming from classical music composers. It was his touch of embedding on his guitar solos. So clever! Being a producer, guitarist and being a part of Led Zeppelin was so incredible! For those Led Zepp fans, and other music lovers who listen to their music - it will be a treat if you listen to their live performance recordings. Every time they play - there are a lot of improvisations, mutations when they play their songs. No one ever does that except Led Zeppelin - they are the only band that does that!
They're not the only band who does that lol you probably haven't watched Queen concerts. Queen didn't just improvise a lot, they frequently did medleys of multiple songs in their live performances. But aside from that, I agree with you. I've watched Led Zeppelin at Danmark TV 1969 and Royal Albert Hall 1970, they're awesome.
I'm 10, been playing guitar for just over 6 months & am so inspired by Jimmy. Love practicing guitar after school & hope to play like him someday. Jimmy, you rock!
DUDE! He's a person, talk to him like it! It's just awkward, we get it you like his music but just shut up instead of interrupting him and overwhelming him with complements and philosophical bs
I went to his book signing in Toronto July 21, all I can say is everything we see Jimmy do, his swag, kindness, generosity and so on.. Its 1000000000000% better in person. He was very humble and grateful for me going to his book signing. Jimmy flat out is the man.
I stood at the edge of your stage in 1977, words just can't describe the experience that it was to me. Thank you so much, not just for that night, and not just for all the good times your music has given. But thank you also for the good your music continues to bring to me. My soul always comes alive when I listen to you and your band. God bless you forever.
I love lots and lots of guitarists, as a player myself, but if I were really, really pushed to narrow it down to the one... It would have to be this man. Seems like an absolutely lovely man too. Thank you, Jimmy for all your amazing music.
Agreed. I love listening to how Jimmy Page developed as a musician and the development of the band. Jeff Koons does a great job here...maybe because of his own artistic background and perspective.
You've got to be joking. A load of fawning by Koons who is barely articulate and is lucky that Page is a nice old stick these days. More fawning by hysterical girls near the end. It's terrible.
@@garymorgan3314 i agree; this guy was speaking way slower than I was listening and he’s amazingly inarticulate for an interviewer. So many “Ummms” and non word fillers, it’s hard to listen to. Jimmy was very patient, he’s a truly unique person.
It's hard to think of this man as just a human. He's NOT just another human. He's extremely amazing. His talent is beyond many genius' of the 20th century. I wonder if he knows this sometimes but in reality I think he does. He must. The book looks really cool and if I were rich I'd buy two signed copies and put one in a bank vault. God Bless you Jimmy, We love you, deeply.
I'm not saying led zeppelin fans are stupid. You are inarticulate. Jimmy page could play fingerstyle acoustic. He was a musician. Knew his goddamn notes. By ear. Ok.
@Fools On The HillThis is a common reaction to genius. From this interview, he worked hard to become Jimmy Page as we know him. Somehow, he knew just what to do. How does this happen?
Thank you for the amazing interview Mr Page. I feel it was so intimate and surprising and just delightful. Similar to Mr Koons, the audience and judging by the comments below,(and myself included) so many people have been touched by your music that it almost defies explanation of how we all feel about you in a very personal way. I wish you continued health, inspiration and joy in the years to come and may all of your musical and other aspirations come true.
hmm.. mediocre on his best day. No actual talent, just a long past temporary Faustian bargain ended by Kenneth Anger. His life should be a warning to never engage the occult
Absolutely love Led Zeppelin after 53 yrs they are still the greatest rock band ever in my mind. And I love listening Jimmy's stories, so intelligent, humble and funny. Their music is timeless.
If you don't understand how great this man is I pity you, I started playing guitar when I was 12 and 43 years later I'm still trying to master Jimmy Page, I can play his songs but I could never write one like him or play them with his soul, his versatility is unmatched.
@@johnrambo6265 there are a few riffs that may have learned from and that's ok but no one, no one is Led Zeppelin and no one will ever be. If possibly getting an idea for a song from a piece of someone's else's song is so simple and easy to the path of being great then why hasn't else been at their level. Exactly.
It’s funny he has played and entertained in front of thousands upon thousands of people. But when people shout out compliments he hides behind his hand. It shows his humbleness and shyness. Thank you Jimmy Paige forever my favorite guitarist and favorite band LED Zeppelin
Jimmy, you deserve an interviewer with intellect. Koons isn't fit to replace your guitar strings. (And you've been on my bucket list since I was a teenage girl!)
I loved this, but I'm a little sad. Jimmy tried to tell a story about how he acquired the dragon outfit - he even vocalized something like "can I tell you a story about it?" - but he got cut off and rerouted away. I wanna hear the story! Otherwise great interview, Mr Page is so incredibly entertaining - guitar in hand or not.
there's something about talented musicians. something I can't put my finger on. but when your heart starts beating and you desire to be like them. you're hooked.

I love this person. I love the band he created. I love the vision he brought to bear. I love the otherworldly nature of his life's work. I love the mystery, the mastery, the occult influence, the spirituality, the transcendence. And, My God, that Guitar.... This band stands alone. End Of.
Jimmy Page is such a personable down to earth individual, and he is the greatest guitarist, song writer, producer, musician that has ever lived and thats a fact. No one has come close to his genius. He is Amazing..

@Flaming Pie Well, yes, ya know... But the term ROCK GOD, let's not take it too seriously. it's quite a bit easier than saying legendary musician, artist extraordinaire...
I have a hard time using the term “God” to any human being. God implies perfection, with no faults whatsoever. But “Rock God”, it’s not the same level of seriousness! It simply means to me, “Legendary”, which he IS!
the fact that jimmy page is the greatest guitarist of all time isn’t really something you can debate, it’s just fact. people who argue otherwise are ignorant. plain and simple. his work speaks for itself.

@@Oriolesfun Hendrix set such a unique, awesome standard during his brief, 4 years as a Rock superstar. Jimmy Page managed to survive, and therefore, create his own brand of unique musical expression. Two mind-blowing musicians, for sure!
Whatever his personal sins may be, whatever the state of his conscience, God bless Jimmy. His music truly is life-changing music, it certainly changed my life and led to me getting into bands, meeting my former partner and having my son. Not to mention changing my view of music and myself forever. Thank you Jimmy for the inspiration, the excitement, the intensity.
I think it was systemic back then, jagger, Bowie, beatles and they all had very willing participants, which is not to minimise it and say it is ok, but it was culturally very different

lol wheres the proof of this? HE had a teenage girlfriend when he was like 25? I am 25 and i wouldnt date a teen girl, but i mean do u see some 15 yr olds!? it kills me when they try and hang on me and shit..? regardless ive done YEARS of research, and the only one who admits anything is robert plant... look up how starway was written, and why none of them care to play it!!! "Jimmy was playing the chords, then i got real angry, like really! Then my hand started writing out words, and i jumped out of my chair!" i would of thought it was an exaggeration if it hadnt happened to me already before i read that! i was in a horrid mood all night then, i got sooo happy, like i was high! Then i saw something out the corner of my eye, so i turned around? there was a black haired white skinned girl, like the ones on houses of the holy, and she began speaking in latin, anlike jumped a few feet towards me, then a few more, gliching like a computer game? or like in movies!? then i ran.. lol who wouldnt? well like 10 mins later i experinced the possession/auto writting, we all have! look up carlos santana, or angus young they alll admit it... jimmy page has alwasys said hes into occultism, but has never act practiced any of it.. thats a hell of an accusation! ANd i never understood, when was 17-18, im sure i had sex with someone who was 15! But now im 25 and it seems likd thatd be wrong, has since i was like 20!!! Why tho?
I feel as if I have finally gotten to know Jimmy Page. Led Zep albums are all in my vinyl collection, but just recently I've started to get to know them, truly. What a dear, special part of my teen years. Now it's coming back!
What's amazing about Led Zeppelin is "In through the Outdoor." It was completely different from their early material, incorporated West African polyrhythms + proto goth-rock yet still sounded like them. They never stopped evolving and it wasn't forced. Freaking incredible.
Thats just lame ,given how humble he is ,he has a very good work ethic when it comes to playing ,and lots of practice ,and having the willingness to do so . I think calling him a god shows the degradation of society that has no desire to call on the real God of heaven and earth ,that is not bound by space and time ,That can do all things including creating everything such as a human being that can play an instrument ,Just shows you what infinite God we have !!! People want to try and say there is no GOD but it is very evident in everything that is created not involved!
His greatness comes from diving deep inside himself and putting out all the hard work. Truly inspirational work. Today's musician should model his type of hard relentless work before reaching for stardom.
Jimmy you are well spoken and gracious. We are blessed to have you. As you are blessed to have been able to have brought the love you have. What a time...
We are so very lucky to have him and the gift of his wonderful music. I just can't even put into words how much his music affected and changed my life, it was really great to have Jeff Koons do this Q&A, since Led Zeppelin means so much to him too. I saw one of these Q&A sessions with Jeff and John Waters, and when John asked Jeff what he credited with making him want to be an artist, he said "Led Zeppelin." Fantastic.
Jimmy is trying to tell us how he acquired his stage outfits, and the interviewer pontificates right over him. Very sad, I always wanted to know where he acquired them..
He is not a good interviewer. Thankfully , Jimmy had a lot of great, insightful stories to tell, because this guy had no good questions for him. He just spewed pseudo ‘profound’ nonsense.
Wow - this is truly a genius from day one - and such a humble, honest and very real man... This was a truly wonderful interview with a really fantastic guitarist, songwriter, and creator of some the absolute best music ever recorded - period - end of discussion - thank you Jimmy Page for all you have done and contributed and given the world for decades !!!
