I remember every commercial, every product and every jingle in this compilation. Even though we saw them too many times, the commercials of those days were fun and entertaining. Budweiser and Coca-Cola will always be my favorites. Thanks for reminding me Fred.
Fred...thanks for the memories! My parents said that I would come flying into the Living room as a toddler, when I would hear the jingles start, then go run back to play when the show came back on...LOL
I remember everyone of these commercials. I got the "Swinger Camera" for my 14th birthday, and I still have the pictures I took with it. Thanks for the memories.
The greatest Maxwell House jingle!!! Ingenious "blending" of percolation and catchy jingle. Maxwell House should be eternally grateful to advertising crew for this since those of us from that generation still remember it 50 odd years after!
Love, love, love the Pepsi, Coke, Alka Seltzer, Budweiser, and Mr. Clean commercials...my favorites. My Mom cleaned EVERYTHING with Mr. Clean. I can still smell it, I swear. Another fantastic one, Fred. Xx
I was around 7 years old & I so loved (get this) the “Budweiser Clydesdales”. I recall waiting, with bated breath, to see ‘em in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! I’d sing the accompanying jingle while playing goalie & waiting for the play to return to our zone. I played youth ice hockey (like I said, I was about 7 yrs.)! Aahh… good times! Now I worry ‘bout my health insurance, how to fit exercise into my schedule, when the market deliveries are due… such dreary nonsense. Bleh! But the “Budweiser Clydesdales”? Brings back those happy, hopeful, innocent feelings. Thanks for the post! 👍
Those Jingles were the most memorable, for me. I bought, ate and drank and used everyone of those products! ( Yes, even Virginia Slims. I was very desperate) Thank you for bringing them all back, Fredflix! Your king of the hill!
I was a little surprised to see men included in the ILGWU (where LG stood for "ladies garment")… I guess some men CAN sew, after all! (& had a hand in making "ladies garments", LOL)
Not-so-smart aleck My mom worked in a sweater factory and it was only women with the managers being men. My dad worked in an embroidery factory and it was all men. Life was so different then.
Outstanding Fred. Commercials like that are also memory triggers. You remember where you were and what you were doing at that time when that commercial is on. Super nostalgic, super enjoyable. ❤❤❤❤❤👍🏿
Thank you, Fred! Back when commercials were good, had jingles, and were FUN! (Today's commercials mostly SUCK) This is also a great sing-along for all of us baby boomers! :-)
Fred; another great collection. I seem to remember 7UP had tons of jingles as the stuff never sold. They changed the ad phrase so many times, Wet and Wild, You like it, It likes you. But no one remembers this stuff but me.
What a great video to see this morning ! All these years; still remember that crush on Edie Adams, thought she was just it, when I was a kid.. That was a memorable clip of the McDonalds commercial, with Bob Ridgely ''there's nothing so clean as my burger machine'' ! Wow, looking back so many of them are like clips from mini movies. Good stuff, boss, good stuff. You're a godsend, Fred.
There's a few I don't remember, Fred. And a few I had forgotten. But most of them are still rattling around in my thinking meat! You know how sometimes you get a tune stuck in your head? Now I've got about 50 of them, and the Meow Mix jingle is repeating every other tune! Bourbon please.
In the Polaroid Swinger ad, you get 2 for 1 on celebrities: Ali McGraw is the spokesmodel with the camera, and the jingle is sung by its composer, Barry Manilow.
That guy in the Colt 45 malt liquor ad wouldn't care if an alien invasion, zombie apocalypse & WW3 all happened at once. Thanks for the ads, FredFlix. 📺
Thanks so much for the sing, whistle, hum and what they now call beat boxing - along!!! 13:54 - One of my most favorite commercial & jingle version of a theme ever!! It was the first McD's song I remember and I believe kicked off the "You deserve a break today" branding. Marlboro's commercials were always so cinematic back then. Thanks for the rewind Fred!!!
11:35 - As I remember, this Budweiser commercial with the Clydesdales pulling the wagon was included in the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" when Richard Dreyfuss gradually became obsessed with making models of the mountain where the aliens were going to land. As he was working on his biggest model, which took up the entire living room of his home, this commercial was on the TV that was in the room with him.
Fantastic vid, Fred!! I promise..I remember every video shown! Ive gotten nostalgic now and Im gonna let Hertz put me in the drivers seat..go to Safeway and buy some Space Food Sticks, Funny Face Goofy Grape, Shake Open and Pour by Bordens, Great Shakes and (Dirt cant hide) from intensified Tide! Great video, my friend! PS..STILL have my Poloroid Swinger..bought it with my Moms Green Stamps!! ( true story!)
Im gonna let Enterprise rent a car for me…go to Safeway and buy some Pepsi for those who think young, Coke, Doublemint, Dr. Pepper, and Alka-Seltzer! Great video, my friend! PS… I haven’t drunk Budweiser…since I was born!! ( true story!)
OK, so cute little tidbit. I work for a printing company and one of my customers is Wrigley. I have toured their manufacturing facility in Flowery Branch GA. There are twin ladies that have worked there for years and years. They call them the Doublemint Twins. I think that is adorable.
As a little boy I thought the Ajax white Knight was the coolest commercial. And not much of a fan of cigarettes but the Marlboro commercial was so relaxing. Great vid Fred.
13:53 OMG, I definitely remember that McDonalds jingle, and an ad at least resembling this one, with a bunch of guys marching out of the restaurant with those hats on, swinging their arms, etc. I think we "deserve a break" though, from all the artery-clogging grease, fat and/or cholesterol, LOL
Hey its the swinger Polaroid swinger-great great great jingle. Only $19.95. Well in today's 2019 money that's about a whopping $135! Possibly worth it as it was I think the first self-developing photo camera!
@Kevin Counihan: Thanks for the info. Checked it out on wiki. You're right. Who would have guessed they had in the late 40s. You must have good 10 or 15 years on me.
@Kevin Counihan: I was mistaken I think because I just bothered to look at your photo if that is accurately you. If it is then believe me I'm decades older than you. You must then be a photographer and an expert in cameras to have known about the Polariod 1947!
@Kevin Counihan: Hell you really can't judge from any photograph especially a very small one. You look like a thirty year old. From your earlier post I though you knew about the 1947 Polaroid because you might have been born in the 1930s. Boy was I fooled!
The first commercial had Ray Fulmer of Hazel in it, the Lowenbrau ad had Robert Pine from Chips, and the McDonalds ad had John Amos for those of us TV trivia fans
Excellent!!! There is one jingle that is stuck in my head, as a kid advertising the Chevy Camaro from late '67 to '68, sung I think by the Association, to the tune of the Wendy song. I can not find it anywhere, but I remember it so vividly, with it's clever and catchy tune! Thanks for the memories, I remembered virtually all of them!!
If it's the version I think you mean, it may be by The Turtles, not The Association. If you want it it's on their album "All the Singles." Shouldn't be hard to find that album on CD.
Great assortment as usual, Fred! The Noxema "Take it off" girl was Gunilla Hutton., the second Billie Jo Bradley on Petticoat Junction. Very risque for a country girl.
@@FredFlix You're right, Fred. That was a brain fart on my part. The Noxema girl was Gunilla Knutsson; a different gorgeous Swedish actress named Cunilla!
"Here comes the king, Here comes the A -Number-One"... When you say Bud, you've said it all!" Such a fantastic piece of creative promotion-- no wonder this commercial was chosen by Spielberg for inclusion into "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"... He knew how memorable this jingle was to that (my) generation. This should be in the advertising industries' hall of fame( as the Mcdonalds' ad should be also)
It's slinky, it's slinky the favorite of girls and boys-wonderful commercial jingle and one of the greatest gadgets or whatever you want to call it ever made.
Love, love, love the Winston, ILGWU, Dr. Pepper, Noxzema, Doublemint, and State Farm commercials. On my Apple Maps I imagine the building I’m in (49 Heather Crescent) as a State Farm office. I can still imagine it, I swear. Another fantastic one, Fred. Xx
Just gives you that warm, nostalgic feeling! ( that could almost be a jingle lol). Special shout out to the Pepsi ad as my late cousin worked for them in NYC.
Great job,as usual Fred! It's scary, I knew all the words. What's scarier is I still have my Slinky! Jan and Dean also sang the Coca Cola jingle. But I think it was a radio ad
Well done - that was great! Why did they ever get away from putting jingles in commercials? The ones from my childhood I can still recall perfectly even after 30 or 40 years.
thank u i remember most or all of them that famous white screen cig tag that on here would be the last tv cig spot nixon said no more cig brands first and only nbc the tonight show midnight. but most of these are pure classic and beloved by all.
Looking at these commercials again-some I haven't seen since the first time 50+ yrs ago proves to me just how powerful images are. If you ever want to see a great film on this with a paranoid bent see The Parallax View
📺 Being a 70's kid, I would remember the ones from the '70s. 10:26 One shocking thing I've heard about this Meow Mix commercial: That cat was choking! But, rest assured, he was all right. 11:31 This Budwiser commercial must've been the one that appeared on Close Encounters of the Third Kind. On a TV, of course. 📺
"IRONICALLY" I personally lost two decent jobs BECAUSE of "unions". Unions USED to be about helping WORKERS, but now are just another "PAC". I paid THOUSANDS in union dues for NOTHING. Today, Unions are morally WORSE than corporations. Corporations are SUPPOSED to make a profit, EVERYONE know that. Unions are SUPPOSED to "help" labor, but are just a money grabbing political racket whose contributions are to a certain political party whose VERY MISSION is to kill the industries that their "members" (marks) belong to. Collecting money to KILL YOUR JOB. I'd LOVE to have had the dough that I paid in union dues to have been in just a STUPID index fund, I might not HAVE to work until I'm 90 had I been able to do so. 😡
I believe the Coke jingle was written by Jake Holmes who was a folk musician in the 60's that wrote and performed Dazed and Confused...a huge success for Led Zep of course.
old school colt 45 commercial is hilarious colt 45 as upscale beer is too funny . I really that Pepsi jingles you got alot to give one is really cool .Nozema Muriel cigars is a classic ad . the hilltop coke jingle in my opinion is best jingle of all time
What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, rolls over your neighbor's dog? It's great for a snack, it fits on your back, it's LOG LOG LOG! It's LOG, It's LOG, It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's LOG, It's LOG, It's better than bad, It's Good. Love it!! :D
Watching these classic commercials is truly a breath of fresh air. Even though I watch nothing but the classic tv shows on METV & COZI TV the only commercials they show are defense attorneys, seeing if you qualify for Medicare, Medicaid or Life Insurance. I get so depressed seeing those same old lousy current ads to where I wish that I could replace the current ones with all of these classics, to make my classic tv watching nothing but fun & enjoyment.
00:01 and 11:31 this is the singing voice of the great Valerie Simpson on the Budweiser jingle. She was a terrific singer and songwriter... she teamed up with her husband Nick Ashford to form the famous musical duo Ashford & Simpson.
Fred, and now "VSM"???? I'll be in "retro mode" all damn night.... At least allow me the pleasure of getting even!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V3kE0rvAJhM.html (they're almost 80 now!)
Sounds like The Limeliters doing that "Things Go Better with Coke" jingle. Years later, that furniture mover guy in that ad had a recurring role on Murder She Wrote as one of Angela's old schoolmates. The very next ad features the British pop group The Fortunes. The Pepsi "For Those Who Think Young" jingle was by Joanie Sommers.
Years ago I found a 16mm reel with many commercials on it. I thought that they would have been on 35mm, but after I thought about it, 16mm was probably more than enough for the low resolution of TV back then.
2:38 Joanie Sommers singing the Pepsi jingle . Known as the Pepsi girl in the 60's . She sang the jingle ( which was a take on the song " Making Whoopie"). Later she sang the Pepsi " Come Alive" jingle when that campaign started in 1965 and continued through '67. She returned in the early 80's singing the diet Pepsi jingle( diet Pepsi...one small calorie..now you see it ... now you don't).
Splendid compilation! You should do some of the catch phrases from days gone by. Of course "Where's the beef?" "Trix are for kids." "Hey Mikey. He likes it." I'm sure you can think of a lot more.
Lots to say about these commercials. You picked great nostalgia. Now I remember why they banned the ones pushing the romanticizing of cigarettes, that would eventually take and destroy soooo many lives. I know it was time consuming to pick the right ones. Thank you, Fred.
The last I saw of their label, was around 2004, the last five pairs of "Farah Slacks" that I found, and they were n.o.s. at an Army Navy store in Upstate NY. Farah wasn't a union company in the '80s, I wonder what changed?? Bollman Hats, less than 2mi from where I sit, has avoided unionization by paying close to 'union scale'. There are three high-end footwear makers in PA; Kepner-Scott, Double-H, Perry Ercolino. Woolrich still makes clothing near Williamsport. I remember taking the second of two new pairs of USAF-issued "jump" boots to an elderly shoemaker in my home town, to do a "all-day comfort fitting and alteration". $28.00 damn well spent!, in 1982; he'd have you stand, holding 5lb weights in each hand, then measure about fifty parameters. When he announced his upcoming retirement, I sent two more pairs for 'rework'. (and my "old man" told him to add 'five pounds of lard onto that measurement'; I was in the Azores, "NATO", and the food was good!) We've lost so much as a nation; sold our souls for garbage, trinkets, and an unlivable wage for many..... www.bollmanhats.com/ (never make it into Bollman's, always wind up here: facebook.com/BoehringersDriveIn/
They usually don't have jingles anymore on TV commercials. They might use old songs, which is probably cheaper than paying a songwriter to come up with something.
I would think it would be the opposite;that licensing those songs would cost more. This may sound radical, but I think the world is just about out of tunes. I seldom hear any new melodies that are catchy and I can hum. Not in songs, TV or movie themes or commercials.Of course, I don't hear everything that's put out.
