@@Mblingybling yeah but the thing is maomao still is a great written character plus her character does not revolve around her romance between jinshi (if you’ve read the webnovel/light novel the romance is very minimal and is a slow burn so it focuses more on the mystery and drama aspects of the series) in fact the author herself dislikes when her fans only focus on maomao x jinshi because she obviously wrote both of them to be good characters without the need of romance also whats wrong with good written characters to be in love? there’s nothing wrong to it

Maomao is 17, while jinshi is actually 19. He was pretending to be a 24 year old eunuch but it was revealed later that he’s actually 19.

I believe they're one year apart actually. At the start of the show, Jinshi is 18 and Maomao is 17. The anime reveals that it's been a while since Maomao got kidnapped and probably turned 18 and Jinshi turned 19

nonetheless, age didn't matter back then,, the worse part was the former emperor who on purpose made his concubines little girls under the age of 10 😭
