A truly amazing martial artist in numerous disciplines. I still remember the private lesson I had with him a long time ago on the subject of BJJ Over 40. I am now close to 70 and still in the game.

Why do you wear shoes when doing Bjj? Just curious. I'm watching some old videos and I see you wearing shoes during bjj.
@RoyHarris
@RoyHarris 2 года назад
I wear shoes during BJJ training for five reasons: * It’s more hygienic. * I get more traction. * It saves where in tear on my skin & nails. * My toes are much safer & less injurious. * They are a training tool for leg lock defenses. Whenever I trained at traditional BJJ schools, I was never allowed to wear wrestling shoes because doing so went against their tradition!But when I got my own martial art school, and because I had trained in Savate, JKD, Filipino martial arts and other styles that wore shoes, I decided to wear them most of the time. Make sense?
